DUTCH TRADE MISSION NIGERIA 1 NABC_missie_Nigeria.indd 1 27-02-12 16:37 Preface Dear Nigerian partners and participants, It is a great pleasure to introduce the participants of the Dutch construction mission from 4 – 9 March to Nigeria. This mission brochure is our joint “business card” and I am sure many useful contacts in Nigeria will originate from its dissemination. Nigeria is one of the fastest economies in Africa and the second most important trading partner of the Netherlands in Sub-Saharan Africa. With a population of approximately 170 million, Nigeria presents enormous possibilities for Dutch companies. The NABC and our Nigerian partner Naijalink are very proud of this mission, since we are focusing on one of the most promising sectors in Africa in general and in Nigeria in particular: construction. The Netherlands expertise in the construction sector can have significant input in Nigeria’s future. This mission is organized by the NetherlandsAfrican Business Council, a private sector foundation that was created in 1946 by Dutch companies doing business in. Our goal is to strengthen economic relations between Africa and the Netherlands. I expect that this mission will lead to new business partnerships between the participants and the Nigerian private sector. On a macro-level, it is my sincere hope that this mission will contribute to a different perception of Nigeria in the Netherlands and much more attention for the opportunities in Nigeria is very much justified. Our vision is that business relationships and entrepreneurship are key to the further development of Africa. Still, the government plays a very important facilitating role in this. Both the Nigerian Embassy in The Hague as well as the Netherlands Embassy in Abuja have been crucial in supporting this mission. In particular I want to mention Her Excellency Ambassador Akanbi for her active support. Furthermore I would like to mention the very high level of commitment that we have received from Nigerian authorities and private sector partners. We thank the NNCC in particular for their cooperation. Last but not least, the NABC is delighted that a high-level Dutch government delegation has chosen to link up with our mission and work together with us on parts of the program. This mission is not a final destination, but a next step to enhance economic relations. I thank our participating companies for giving us their trust and it is my sincere hope that all of us involved will contribute to developing future business between our countries. On behalf of the other NABC team members, I wish you a very fruitful mission. With kind regards, Bob van der Bijl Bob van der Bijl Managing Director Netherlands-African Business Council (NABC) 2 NABC_missie_Nigeria.indd 2 27-02-12 16:37 Preface Nigeria and the Netherlands have a long history of strong economic and business relations. Prominent examples illustrating the variety of these relations are Peak milk of Wamco, the Dutch contribution to the skyline of Lagos, the local beer production of Heineken, the dredging industry and our intensive relations in the field of oil and gas. The Netherlands is proud to be an important and growing destination of Nigerian agricultural products, of cacao and coffee. The current growth and the potential of the Nigerian economy offers ample opportunity for strengthening ties and exploring new ways of trading and doing business with each other. I am grateful for the opportunity to visit Nigeria. This joint visit with the Sub-Sahara Africa director of the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Désirée Bonis, will undoubtedly serve to intensify the relations between the Netherlands and Nigeria on a governmental and business level. I look forward to meeting some of Nigeria’s most distinguished government representatives and companies to discuss a wide range of topics. With our aim to strengthen the economic ties, I am glad we were able to combine our visit with the presence of a delegation of companies related to the construction sector. The Netherlands-African Business Council has succeeded in bringing together a strong selection of Dutch companies offering solutions for the construction industry and vehicle and equipment providers who are Simon Smits Vice minister for Foreign Trade Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovati on Désirée Bonis ctor Sub-Sahara Africa dire ign of the ministry of Fore Affairs keen to learn of the opportunities that abound in Nigeria. The company develops and produces machinery to handle and manufacture earth blocks and nature materials for the building of human friendly, sustainable housing made of local existing materials. The machinery for processing CEB´s in a continual process can be operated by three to twelve persons. Pulverizing, mixing and pressing takes place at the same time. The earth, where eventually sand and fine gravel are added depending on the earth´s composition, becomes pressed to uniform blocks with the speed of 6 blocks per minute, which is approximately 10.000 blocks a week, corresponding to 330m2 walls. Generally the clay percentage is less than 20%. All machines are independent from existing infrastructure and external energy supply. As the machinery consists of small units, they are economical appropriate. The machinery are mobile and independent of an existing infrastructure. Therefore and by use of local existing recourses the working process gets decentralized and economically affordable even for the needed people in the developing countries. By the use of energy-saving, low-technologic principles we are now able to offer tools for today´s most energy-saving, environmentfriendly building processes in the world.
