3 Executive summary
Since Denmark started the six month Presidency of the Council of European Union (January 1st
– June 30th 2012) much of the media attention has moved to policies, life, culture and customs of
Denmark and the Danes.
With that respect Danish embassies, especially in EU countries and candidate countries, had a
mission of providing media representatives a full and in depth information about Danish EU
policies and programme of the Presidency.
Keeping that in mind, mission of the embassy in Zagreb was to capitalize on the spotlight given
by the Presidency. The goal was to release as many positive texts about Denmark, Danish culture,
goals of the Presidency and other policies to maximise public diplomacy outreach.
For that reason the embassy public diplomacy activities that followed can be divided to:





Informative campaign about the EU Presidency,
Full support to Croatia on joining the EU after signing the accession treaty and especially
before the referendum on joining the EU,
Culture/PD campaign that involved promotion of bicycle culture on all levels
(stakeholders, general public)
Trade/PD campaign that promoted healthy lifestyle and fight on diabetes in the light of:
1)
European Parliament resolution of 14 March 2012 on addressing the EU diabetes
epidemic (2011/2911(RSP))
2)
European Diabetes Leadership Forum in Copenhagen (April 25-26 2012)
Political /PD campaign that showed Danish solutions and knowhow that could be
benchmarked and used in fields where Croatia is about to make reforms.
Most important factors for this report is to see which media are most likely to report on embassy
activities in the future, what are the most pragmatic media channels, where can the embassy gain
most reach, what are the lessons learned. All this can be easily seen in media evaluation report of
all activities which are measured in most important aspects.

In the period from January 2012 to December 2012 there were a total of 312 publications
recorded. (Radio, TV, print, web) The press clipping was focused on identifying main subjects:
Embassy of Denmark and Ambassador Bo Eric Weber having either as primary or secondary
position in the publication. It is important to note than none of the media releases had a negative
tone. They were either positive or neutral.

The last figure (OTS) is particularly interesting because it refers to the number of people who
have had the opportunity to see at least some media reports on mentioned subject - Embassy of
Denmark or Ambassador Bo Eric Weber. Number is approximate and calculated on
viewership or readership of each media.
Interestingly, since Croatian media are also consumed in the region (Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Serbia, FYRO Macedonia, Kosovo) the reach, although not calculated outside borders, is even
higher since articles in connection with the embassy have been taken up by foreign media and
distributed among readership/viewership.
Above mentioned data is calculated through all media channels in publications which are listed
within this report.
