1 2 #globalshapers #ekaterinburghub 3 Founding Curator’s Foreword --------------------------------------------------------------------------Dear friends and colleagues, Global Shapers Community has an outstanding tradition of having official soundtracks for every event. I will never forget our Davos-2014 experience, when 50 Shapers had a unique opportunity to attend World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting. The song that played most often there was Pharrell Williams’s ‘Happy’. Happiness is the very feeling that all Global Shapers share. We are happy to be the members of this extraordinary Community and we are happy to commit to improving the state of the world by doing social projects locally. In Ekaterinburg, Russia we started being happy in Shapers-style on July 1, 2013, when the Global Shapers Community Hub was established here, in the Urals in the city serving as the symbolic bridge between Europe and Asia. This Annual Report is an effort of Ekaterinburg Shapers to share all the bright moments happened in the Hub throughout the first Shapers’ Year with the Community. The Annual Report is, like a puzzle, organized as the collection of onepagers. Each onepager is dedicated to a particular project, event or activity. Each one is valuable on its own, but only together they make the whole picture. It reminds the whole Community, where every person is unique, but only together we make a really strong and exceptional network. Unfortunately, sad events happening every day in the world don’t allow us to be always happy. But with such a strong Community as ours, showing such positive dynamics there is a hope that in the future people everywhere in the world will live peacefully and happily. I do hope that we will add one more tune to our soundtrack – the Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Song, where Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez & Claudia Leitte sing: ‘show the world we are ONE’! Let’s show we are ONE and improve the state of the world TOGETHER!!! Yours Faithfully, Ivan Vozmilov Founding Curator of Global Shapers Community Ekaterinburg Hub Curator (2013/2014) #globalshapers #ekaterinburghub 4 Hub Patronage -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ideological Inspirer Professor Klaus Schwab Founder & Executive Chairman, World Economic Forum Annual Curators Meeting in Geneva, Switzerland (08/2013) Global Shapers @ Skolkovo and WEF Moscow Meeting (10/2013) WEF Annual Meeting in Davos (01/2014) #globalshapers #ekaterinburghub 5 Hub Patronage --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Global Shapers Team Global Shapers Community Ekaterinburg Hub cordially thanks The Global Shapers Team for enormous help & support. (op-ed on the Annual Curators Meeting-2013 in Geneva, Switzerland by Ekaterinburg Hub’s Founding Curator Ivan Vozmilov) If everyone cared and nobody cried... “Nickelback” Our life is full of miracles, and the most outstanding of those is meeting people, who further become your soul-mates. Seven years ago I met such a person, while studying in London`s St Giles College. His name is Pierre-Yves Meyer and he comes from Fribourg, Switzerland. Within the last seven years we met seven times in 4 different countries: London (the UK), Kazan and Ekaterinburg (Russia), Paris (France) and yesterday we placed Lausanne (Switzerland) on our mutual world map. Isn`t that a miracle? We shared with each other the recent highlights happened to us: Pierre-Yves told me that he met the girl of his dream (which is probably one of the most beautiful miracles in the world) and I told him about the Annual Curators Meeting of the Global Shapers Community in 2013. Why do I consider the ACM-2013 a miracle? It's quite frequent that people gather in a particular place and discuss several issues. First of all, I have never seen so many brilliant people from so many countries willing so much to do a lot of practical things towards serving society via improving their local communities by undertaking projects. And it`s not only about talking – that`s primarily about acting. That`s why the ambience during those five days was unique and one could feel in the air tremendous energy of Global Shapers. Secondly, the ACM-2013`s main concept was dialogue and it was successful. Regardless political situations in their countries, 57 young people hadn't seen any barriers for this dialogue of civilizations, on the one hand, and the dialogue of generations, on the other one. It was not about tolerance – it was about greater values, such as love, friendship, understanding and respect. During the meeting Shapers became united by a common desire to channel their energy and enthusiasm into building a more peaceful and inclusive world. Last but not least, the miracle was finding our rhythm. We really managed to do this and it won`t have been possible without meeting Professor Klaus Schwab, who inspired every single participant of the meeting with his enthusiasm and trust. This meeting will always be kept in the hearts of the Shapers. We also couldn`t have found our rhythm without David Aikman`s wise advice and help. In the Nickelback song a rhethorical question is placed: `What would happen, if everyone cared?`. Global Shapers are really close to answering this question. By doing projects that have social impact to their societies Shapers will inspire other people in their communities to do positive things and improve the state of the world. As Germano, the Curator of Sao Paolo Hub said at the closing session of the ACM-2013: `If you want to go fast – go alone, if you want to go far – go TOGETHER`. Let`s shape the world together! PS. I would like to say a very sincere `thank you` to the organizing committee of the ACM-2013 and more particularly to the Global Shapers Dream Team (as Yemi called it). I have attended dozens of events throughout my life, but I have never faced the events so deep in the content, so creative as the format and so finely and extraordinarily managed. As the Eurasia Community Manager Anastasia Kalinina said to me, it was like a wonderful swan who is admired by people who don`t even realize how hard it is to swim so beautifully. 58 Ekaterinburg Hub’s External Relations -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Participation in WEF&GSC events WEF Annual Meeting in Davos (01/2014) Davos 50 team on the WEF stage Lunch with professor Klaus Schwab MTLwith Jahangir Hajiyev, Chairman, The International Bank of Azerbaijan Davos 50 with Muhtar Kent; CEO Coca-Cola City Series Event in Kazan (05/2014) Shapers – participants of the City Series event in Kazan Shapers’ Selfie with the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov Ekaterinburg Hub delegation at City Series event in Kazan “Friends will be friends” style photo in Kazan St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (05/2014) Shapers – participants of the SPIEF-2014 Session on the Olympic heritage and the World Cup2018 #globalshapers Ekaterinburg Shapers at SPIEF-2014 #ekaterinburghub SPIEF-2014 Shapers & Volunteers 59 Ekaterinburg Hub’s External Relations --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Participation in conference calls One of the main directions of developing external relations & following the Global Shapers Community Strategy for Ekaterinburg Hub is active & regular participation in various conference calls, such as Curators calls led by Community Manager Anastasia Kalinina, Community Huddles, preparation to WEF events (e.g., AM-2014 in Davos), discussing projects, initiatives & collaboration. That’s why we decided to finalize our first-ever Hub’s Annual Report with Anastasia’s poem “Current location: Geneva” translated from Russian into English by Ekaterinburg Hub’s Founding Curator Ivan Vozmilov. Current location: Geneva (from Poem Collection «Peterburggo») Some people are aliens to their past In the morning, putting on yellow bathrobe in Geneva, You are unconsciously brooding on the lack of any recall, About possessing a single day And living within 365 days per year Rolling up in that day, as the snail on the torrid tree, You’ll nap a little more covered by psychoanalytical transfer, Where the city acts as the doctor And your phobias are unwillingness to front neither about, nor ahead You’ll evaluate with your sleepy eyes Geneva spreadeagled down And you’ll easily fall down in transgressiveness, Downward to your background, Back to basics, as they say. Strolling out in the park at the Vermont station, Estimating the width and the depth of the shield, Getting by multiplying its area, You’ll make moving the mechanism of combining The elements of leave, wasting time, The threshold of the black, refreshing fountain, The particles of down time, sleepy UN faces, Travelling ran over time, rhythmical deserts, Lack of poetry in yourself, its lack all over the world, Failing to catch the core of your life, riding the attraction in your dreams – Which crashes by falling down and you wake up by the opportunities, 82 By feeling at the same time all-might and disability, By attempts to lead several lives at the same time, each of them possessing numerous mistakes, Enough to fill the lake and throw them out through the fountain Afterwards – it progresses, the peach odour in the window, Semi-lifeless Mont Blanc, picked up by the moustaches of the curling clouds, The sky in its highest resolution – That’s its resolution Permitting to naturally enter the resistance zone To a day, a minute, the false start, the Metropol restaurant Looking simplified walking through the Kempinski hotel, Surprising by its simple elegance in every idea Figures fine cut of marble In the elementary lobby With the arrogant passion staring at the stormy games of diamonds Gleaming in the splayed out, as the toes, window shops And feel. Nothing else – but feel. Everything that is possible to be felt, touching the gem stones of the floor with the heels. To be exact – sadness and revenge, flying, significant discrepancies Melting beauty, being spread on the bread, Hot belonging to the day, the frozen bottom of the bed, The snore of someone’s aid, incredible pain and zest for living, Events, thoughts, schools, universities, left somewhere. Nothing but feel – that’s why Yin and Yang formed its eccentric shape, That’s why suppressed subtleties give virtual piquancy to your eyes. And knowing – if it would be possible to live Instead of one life nine hundred (like cats do, but one hundred times more) Then your heart of an artist would have been capable of suddenly transforming To a marble sculpture or senseless society lion, 83 A girl at the hotel reception desk, a web-page of a luxury restaurant, A pilgrim, coming back from the sea, the palmer, preparing to leave, A street lady, a greedy cricket, broad-shouldered, veiled beauty. It would have been possible to choose so many lives for you, But the heart of an artist limits and at the same time endlessly multiplies your passions, Chatting jerkily with the river cab driver, Crossing Leman lake You look at the West – the sun is still high, running to feed the opened mouth of the Rhone, Signaling of the approaching rain. The Evian mineral water and the city, like that – also mineral. France breathes nearby – she’s hard to be pursued, she’s sleeping. Ardent heat appears on the skin, as the greetings from the future, that you ignore. Having smiled, you catch the 22nd bus, And through Bel-Air you find yourself on the quay, In the world, where Geneva becomes a dream and plays its leading role, Where the odor of the estranged roses at the Wilson palace is the main inbreathed air, Where the sunset color reflects the color of your cleaning tender lungs, Spicy stomach, the reverse side of your wrist. Travel to Montreux, where pigeons eat from your hand. Regard the rainbow, as the struggle and the unity of the antipodes. Bare your shoulders every time the shadow sails on the water face. Some people are aliens to their past The others are aliens to the present. In Geneva, they would sup it with a table-spoon From the warm-hearted water basin. 84 Prepared, designed and published by Global Shapers Community Ekaterinburg Hub (World Economic Forum Initiative) Founding Curator - Ivan Vozmilov Editor-in-Chief – Anastasia Shkurevskikh Editors – Anastasia Troshkina, Maria Gruzdeva Special correspondents – Grigory Davosov, Anton Samoylin, Maria Novoselova, Evgenia Bagaeva Photographer: Valeriya Nomokonova Contact us at: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] http://vk.com/gshubekb https://twitter.com/ekatgschub Ekaterinburg - 2014
