The 2010 fête will have a different look to the previous two Live music village fêtes organised by the Project Fund. This year there will be a programme of live music throughout the afternoon provided by a variety of local bands. Our thanks to Derek Linch for providing the stage and to Denis Connolly for organising the music acts. The fun dog show returns. So come along and enter your pooch to be judged in classes such as “dog with the waggiest tail” or “dog most like its owner”! Fun Dog Show Our thanks to New Romney Pet Shop for sponsoring the fun dog show and providing the prizes. This year will see the first use of the Project Fund’s new marquee in which Refreshments r e f r e s hm e n t s will be served all afternoon. Mandy Law is coordinating the parade of Romney Marsh Princesses (thank you Mandy). So to all the princesses on the marsh: Please contact Mandy if you wish to join in the fun. Marsh Youth are co-ordinating a fun sports day event with good old-fashioned sports day events Fun races such as the three legged race, egg and spoon, sack race and wheelbarrow race plus much, much more. The marching band of the Sea Cadets of TS Veteran are making a welcome return for 2010 to delight the crowd with their expertise. In addition to all of this, there will of course be numerous side shows and games and, this year, a couple of funfair rides for Rides and Games t h e yo u ng e r members of the family. There will also be stalls selling local handicrafts and exhibitions and sales of art and photography by local artists. As usual, all of these activities need a lot of people on the day to run them. If you are able to offer some time during the day - even just an hour - to help on one of the stalls, the committee would be extremely grateful. Please contact the Secretary on the telephone number on the back page of this newsletter with your offer of assistance - he will be absolutely delighted to hear from you. This project is so important we can't let things that are more important interfere with it. (Continued on page 3) Page 3 Village Hall Update Steve Gee, the Project Fund’s architect, has submitted a planning application to Shepway District Council’s planning office for planning permission. Notice of the application has been posted and we await a decision with baited breath. The lease for the land on which the village hall is to be built has been signed by the Project Fund’s custodian trustees and is in the hands of the two parties’ solicitors. Hopefully this will be concluded in the very near future. As soon as planning permission has been granted, quotes will be obtained for the building work and then the trustees can start applying for grants to help with the cost of the building. It is very much hoped by the trustees, subject to planning permission being granted without too many hitches, that work may have started on the village hall by the end of this year. Quotes from corporate America (Continued from page 2) 5. Doing it right is no excuse for not meeting the schedule. 6. No one will believe you solved this problem in one day! We've been working on it for months. Now go act busy for a few weeks and I'll let you know when it's time to tell them. 7. Quote from the Boss: Teamwork is a lot of people doing what I say. 8. My grandmother passed away on Monday. When I told my Boss, he said she died on purpose so that I would have to miss work on the busiest day of the year. He then asked if we could change her burial to Friday. He said, 'That would be better for me.' 9. We know that communication is a problem, but the company is not going to discuss it with the employees. Extracts from church magazines 1. The sermon this morning: 'Jesus Walks on the Water.' The sermon tonight: 'Searching for Jesus.' 2. Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands. 3. Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say 'Hell' to someone who doesn't care much about you. 4. Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help. 5. Miss Charlene Mason sang 'I will not pass this way again,' giving obvious pleasure to the congregation. 6. Next Thursday there will be try-outs for the choir. They need all the help they can get. Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days. 7. At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be 'What Is Hell?' Come early and listen to our choir practice. 8. Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones. 9. Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want remembered. 10. The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility. 11. Potluck supper Sunday at 5:00 PM - prayer and medication to follow. The ladies of the Church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon. 12.
