2008 ATLANTA Trade Expo
Building on Tradebank’s spectacular event last year, the 2008 Holiday
Trade Expo in Atlanta will recapture the prestige and success of the
2007 Expo with a convenient and
accessible new venue. The
Tradebank Atlanta Trade Expo will
be held Tuesday, November 11,
2008 from 1 to 8 pm in Building B
at the Gwinnett County
Fairgrounds, 2405 Sugarloaf
Parkway in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Modeled after a traditional Main
Street USA environment, Building
B, provides a private site and
entrance away from the other fairground facilities, plenty of space to
accommodate over 100 exhibitors,
food and entertainment. Further,
Tradebank exhibitors and shoppers
alike will be pleased with the drive
up ease of unloading and loading
and convenient parking this venue
provides.
Tradebank’s Atlanta Trade Expo
provides a tremendous opportunity
for you to meet, sell to and buy
from Tradebank clients from
regions outside your own market.
Space will fill fast, so exhibitors are
encouraged to reserve their space
today. In addition, Tradebank
clients and their guests are invited
to attend this once a year opportunity to use trade dollars to shop, network, and expand your understanding of the full benefits Tradebank
has to offer at this one day event.
If you attended the Expo in Atlanta
last year you will recall that booths
overflowed into the aisles with
products and shoppers as Tradebank
clients sold and purchased an extensive array of jewelry, art, four-
wheelers, clothing, gift baskets,
candy, leather goods, hunting and
sporting goods, computer equipment, electronics, health and beauty
products, gourmet food, holiday
items and many other goods.
Joe Price, owner of Priceless Pens,
traveled from Tennessee to sell his
custom made exotic wood pen and
pencil sets and holiday fudge. After
the Trade Expo, he commented,
“We’ve been to and participated in
many trade shows across the country and this event was the best. The
attractive venue, the variety and
quality of the products being
sold and the warmth of people
made us happy to be included.
Participation proved very profitable for us. We look forward to
having a booth in next year’s
Expo.”

Tradebank of Chattanooga
by: Brenda Jameson
Tradebank of Chattanooga has been
operating in Chattanooga for 13
years. The franchise, which consists of 22 counties in the
Chattanooga metropolitan market,
has been owned and operated for
the past twelve years by Jurgen
Mootz.
Mootz, born in Germany and raised
in Venezuela, came to Louisiana
State University at the age of 16.
He graduated with degrees in
Electrical Engineering and Business
Management. Mootz eventually
became partner in the Loft
Restaurant and later ran several
restaurants and catering businesses
before purchasing the Tradebank
franchise in 1996. Since then the
franchise has grown to include over
400 active clients who traded millions of dollars worth of goods and
services last year.
For seven years prior to Labor Day
of 2007, the office was located at
the corner of Ringgold and
Germantown in East Ridge. Mootz
had been exploring the idea of owning his own location for several
years. When the facility at 3835
Hixon Pike in Chattanooga, owned
by Tradebank client Won Chu
(Chu’s Martial arts and Golden
Eyewear) became available, he took
the opportunity and purchased the
building. In addition to paying a
portion of the price of the building
using Tradebank trade dollars,
Mootz was also able to complete
much of his remodeling project and
upgrades using trade.

Marketing, Alicyne Roth, Senior Trade Broker, Lori Carter, Trade Broker
In additon to Mootz and his wife,
Robin, Tradebank of Chattanooga’s
staff is comprised of several talented individuals who work diligently
to serve the trading needs of the
Chattanooga business community.
Alicyne Roth, Senior Trade Broker,
has been with Tradebank since
2001. She, along with Lori Carter,
Tradebank of Chattanooga’s newest
Trade Broker, can frequently be
found working late on Friday
evenings to ensure that out-of-town
guests have last minute accommodation requests confirmed and have
a current Travel Guide. Roth says,
“We want to make sure Tradebank
clients have a great stay in the
Scenic Center of the South, and use
their trade dollars to save their hard
earned cash. Customer service is
what we pride ourselves on.”
For the past seven years Tradebank
of Chattanooga has hosted an annual Christmas Tradeshow and
Auction. The 2007 show had over
57 vendors displaying merchandise
ranging from jewelry and gemstones to fine art. The show’s oneday/10 hour event saw more sales
volume per hour than previous twoday events.

Speaking From Experience
by: Marcy S. Yaffe
National Trade/Training Director
Gratuities
Like many things in life, the rules
for what is a suitable gratuity have
evolved. Who, when and how much
to tip varies from industry to industry. However, the bottom line is,
appropriate and even generous tipping is important and will avoid
embarrassment on the part of the
one receiving the services and ill
will on the part of the service
provider. Being known as a “cheapskate” is not a good thing. If you
have a concern about the quality of
the service, speak to the manager.
The old-fashioned practice of leaving a penny is no longer acceptable.
Furthermore, when you are dealing with other Tradebank clients
your tipping manners become crucial. The tipping practices of
Tradebank clients influence
whether or not the service
providers and business owners
welcome Tradebank clients or not.
Gratuities are to be paid in cash
and paid when purchasing trade
services in hair salons and spas,
delivery and limousine services,
car detailing, in the hotel and of
course, restaurants and other
industries when tipping is customary.
Tradebank has a cash gratuity
policy with a minimum of 18% to
be paid on the total bill in restaurants. This prompts me to elaborate on two important components
of that statement. First, I emphasize the word “minimum”. We
encourage you to use the generosity of your gratuity to
acknowledge the service you
received as well as to show how
much you value that business
being part of Tradebank.
Second, the term “restaurant”
has a broad interpretation nowa-days. In the context of
Tradebank’s gratuity policy, the
term restaurant applies to a sit
down situation where your food
is served to you. Sometimes
questions arise as to what is an
appropriate gratuity in a carryout
situation, buffet setting, fast food
or coffee house business. Here
is my answer: Better to leave a
tip or even over tip, than risk
insulting someone or embarrassing yourself. A few extra dollars
can mean a lot toward achieving
overall goodwill. You can also
ask the proprietor of the establishment what is customary.
Like most clients, restaurants
join Tradebank to attract new
customers. A busy restaurant
means the restaurateurs can
attract and retain quality servers
by providing them with the
opportunity to have increased
wages from the additional new
business/gratuities Tradebank
customers provide.
No matter what the service
being provided, I encourage you
to be recognized and welcomed
“as the generous tipper from
Tradebank”.

Trade/Training Director of Tradebank
International. She has over 24 years
experience brokering barter transactions. Contact [email protected]

Pearle Vision
by: Brenda Jameson
1n 1989, Aaron Wilson, A.B.O.M
and Master Optician, then a student
at Floyd College in Rome, Ga.,
began working for Pearle Vision.
He was low-man on the totum pole
and made $4.50 an hour. Although
he was working toward a business
degree, he learned that he could also
gain Optician State Licensure if he
apprenticed and passed the same
board practical exams as an
Ophthalmic Optics graduate. He
began studying, and in 1991 became
one of the youngest Opticians
licensed in the state of Georgia. He
would go on to earn a Masters in
Opthalmic Optics, an honor
bestowed upon fewer than 400
Opticians in America.
Some time later, Wilson had the
opportunity to meet and spend time
with Dr. Pearle, founder of Pearle
Vision. Afterwards Dr. Pearle wrote
a note that Wilson keeps even to this
day. It reads, Son, someday I think
you'll have your own store". Little
did Wilson know that only four short
years later Dr. Pearle's words would
become true when he purchased the
Pearle Vision Franchise in
Cleveland, TN in May of 1997. He
was excited and hopeful, and a little
frightened, although time would
prove he had nothing to worry
about. Three months later, a marketing representative called to ask how
he had doubled his business so
quickly.
In the last 11 years Wilson’s store
has earned three Golden Spectacle
awards, a national honor for have a
top performing store. At present,
Pearle Vision Cleveland is number
one in several of the criteria involving satisfaction.
Pearle Vision is a full service optical
store, with eye exams available from
The Trade Street Journal • 6
Dr. Robert Patterson. Dr.
Patterson is a graduate of the
Citidel, and Wilson says, “one of
the finest Optometrists I've ever
known”. Dr. Patterson is also a
member of Tradebank and boasts
some new technology in eye
exams called Retinal Imaging.
This technology allows the doctor
to snap a
special picture of the eye that
gives him more information than
he was able to gain in the past. It
also means no dilation.
Pearle Vision also has just outfitted it's in-store optical lab with a
half a million dollars in state-ofthe-art computer molding lens
technology. Using cutting-edge
technology, Pearle can now turn
out the best lenses that money can
buy. In many cases, they can
have them ready the afternoon of
the exam.
Pearle Vision is a one stop shop,
meaning you can get your eyes
examined, get color-contacts,
choose a trendy pair of Nicole
Miller's or BeBe's, grab a pair of
Columbia sunglasses with your
prescription, as well as getting
custom made computer glasses.
Wilson became a Tradebank
client about five years ago, and
says, “I’ve had a wonderful time
with it. Tradebank allows me to
market to a region, instead of just
a city. Each time a Tradebank
client comes in, I try to meet
them and find out what business
they are in because nearly every
Tradebank client is a business
owner!”
Wilson goes on to say, “With the
slight downturn in the economy,
some are concerned about the
future. We just smile every time
a Tradebank client comes in from out
of town because we know we are able
to service folks that would not normally come to Cleveland to see us. With
their buisness we can continue to buy
necessities for the business, enjoy
some pretty nifty vacations, and
splurge on luxuries we might not normally buy.”
Pearle Vision Cleveland does a brisk
business with Tradebank, shipping
prescription eyewear and contact
lenses nationwide. If you are interested call the store at 423.476.2217 and
Pearle Vision’s friendly staff of
Opticians will walk you through the
purchase process.

Tradebank Moves Mountains
Lori Carter has been trading for most of
her life and has been a Tradebank client for
over 20 years with various businesses.
Now she is a Trade Broker in the
Chattanooga office.
One of Carter's notable trade transactions
occurred recently when Tradebank client
Rodger McDaniel of Buckeye Meats knew
his friends needed a vacation and made
reservations for them, using his trade dollars, at Carter's MountainStar Inn B & B in
Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The guests
fell in love with the property and made
Carter and her partner, Daryl Mathis, an
offer to purchase the B & B that they simply couldn't refuse. Carter and her partner
are now in a position to combine the revenue from the sale with their existing trade
dollars to purchase an even larger property
and fulfill a life long dream of owning and
renting several properties in the scenic
Lookout Mountain area, which of course
they will offer through Tradebank.
Mathis, who is also a wood artist, welcomes Tradebank clients to commission
work from him for custom wood pieces.
Carter offers her appraisal and estate liquidation services on trade as well. Carter and
Mathis can be reached at 423.290.2082.
Inn B & B also own a mortgage company
and are joining Tradebank as a result of
their vicarious trading experiences through
McDaniel and Carter.

The Plaque Shack
Everyone has a story and Shane
Hendrix is no different. He was
only 18 years of age, working at a
local rubber stamp shop, when he
learned to engrave. Seeing a potential business opportunity, he convinced the owner to let him rent the
equpment at night to produce trophies and plaques. Twenty one
years later he, along with his mother, Brenda Hendrix, owns and operate The Plaque Shack, one of the
premier trophy, award and sign
shops in the nation.
Using traditional engraving, laser
engraving and all types of material
marking including metal and plastic, The Plaque Shack produces
awards, plaques, trophies, medals,
gifts, name tags and more.
Hendrix believes the element of
success that sets them apart from
others is the feeling of accomplishment and pride that comes from
knowing they are helping to honor
a veteran or make 500 little league
ball players happy. He is personally
invested in his product.
Hendrix ships products nationwide.

Priceless Pens
When Joseph Price retired five years
ago he was looking for something to
keep him busy. A friend was working
with a wood lathe and the idea
intrigued Price. After a brief learning
curve, Price perfected the art of making pens, pencils and fountain pens
from exotic woods from around the
world. In 2006 Priceless Pens had
grown and was stable enough to
expand their marketing efforts and
Price joined Tradebank.
“Within 90 days I had all of my investment back, and much more than that
amount in my Trade account. I was
selling to a large number of new
clients. Then I attended a Tradebank
show in Chattanooga and sold more
than I had ever expected and it was
something that my wife and I enjoyed
very much. My Tradebank account has
continued to grow.”, explains Price.
“Since we have joined Tradebank we
have been very happy our trading success, the people we have met, and the
fun we have had. Also, we have very
much enjoyed spending our trade

dollars. Now we go out to eat a lot
more, get our vehicles serviced and
cleaned, get eye examinations and
glasses for our family, and a lot of
other services and products for our
family. We are very impressed with all
the positive things that have come our
way since we have joined Tradebank.”
