Until 1987, the breathtakingly beautiful bathroomware we admired on the
glossy pages of international design magazines was an impossible dream for
most New Zealand homeowners.
In 1988, Metrix changed all that. They launched a single minded pursuit of
Europe’s premium bathroomware to import into New Zealand. Suddenly,
bathroomware from the world’s most visionary and influential designers,
ceramics created by 3rd generation European craftsmen such as Duravit,
and tapware from manufacturers such as Dornbracht and Vola. And a whole
new world of design possibilities was open to us.
Today, the pursuit continues, and the quality and innovative design offered
by the Metrix Design Collection of Europe’s most sought after tap and

Duravit
Vola
Duravit has been a leader in the evolution
of the modern bathroom for over 180 years.
Their ongoing commitment to revolutionary
design, functionality and aesthetics continues
through collaborations with world-renowned
architects and designers such as Phillipe
Starck, Sieger Design, Norman Foster and
Matteo Thun. Non-compromising quality,
high-end materials, careful manufacturing
and timeless design ensure the longevity
of Duravit’s toilets, basins, bathtubs and
bathroom furniture.
VOLA, the iconic Danish tap was designed
in 1968 by Arne Jacobsen, Denmark’s most
influential architect, whose work epitomised
mid-century Scandinavian design by blending
modernist style with elegant functionalism
and his inherent sense of proportion.

Glass Design
Glass Design is an Italian excellence in
the production and design of bathroom
washbasins. Located in Vinci, in the heart of
Tuscany and native town of “Leonardo da
Vinci”, Glass Design was founded in 1984.

The tradition of the Duravit brand. Even a company
that has set great precedents with its centuries-old
tradition once “started small.” It all began in Hornberg,
Germany in 1817 when Georg Friedrich Horn built an
earthenware factory initially focused solely on the
manufacture of crockery. In 1956, production evolved
from earthenware to porcelain, extending the product
range to include sanitary ceramics. This provided a
platform for future success and also introduced the
sanitary world to a new name: Duravit. Today, Duravit
AG operates at an international level and boasts 10
production plants with a workforce of more than 5,000
employees worldwide – an indication of Duravit’s
tremendous evolution, which has always been rooted
in a “tradition of innovation.” And Duravit continues
to demonstrate its eagerness to charter new territory
with its innovative technology, extraordinary design
and the development of new product segments.

natural, fundamental elements
of life. Since their market launch
in 1994, all products in the
range have been meticulously
crafted by hand using the same

modernises it, although it is
still instantly recognisable.
This results in a progressive,
minimalistic verticality that can
be transferred to the architecture
and design of the bathroom.

VOLA is manufactured by a well established Danish
company founded in 1873, owned and run by the
Overgaard family. Shortly after Arne Jacobsen won a
competition in 1961 for his design of the National Bank
of Denmark he was contacted by the owner of VOLA
who introduced his proposal for a new type of wallmounted mixer tap. He imagined a design where all
the mechanical parts of the mixer are hidden leaving
only the handles and spout exposed. At the time this
was a completely new concept, but Jacobsen realized
that this idea combined with his functional approach
to design could be developed. With that basic principle
in mind, the simple and concise VOLA design that we
know today was conceived.
Since Arne Jacobsens death in 1971 Teit Weylandt
in collaboration with Carsten Overgaard continued
to introduce new products to the VOLA line. In 2005
Teit Weylandt designed the VOLA shower 050.
In 2006 the design team of Aarhus Arkitekterne A/S
designed the floor-mounted mixer for VOLA. Then in
2008 they designed the free-standing mixer FS2, the
free-standing shower FS3 and the towel warmer T39.
The design is Iconic, and the taps are produced from
the best quality material, as a result they last for
generations.

from solid brass and gun metal
with a few components in
stainless steel. All valve housings
are made using dezincification
