Community Services
The Dripping Springs Independent School District Community Services Department offers lifelong
learning opportunities and services to families and the community. These opportunities reach
beyond the traditional school day for the purpose of providing academic, recreation, health, social
service and work preparation programs for people of all ages. This department encompasses
three sections, which are listed below.
Community Education A collaboration between individuals, groups, businesses and the District provides opportunities
for people of all ages. This catalog showcases some of these opportunties.
Founders Park Pool and Pavilion DSISD Community Services provides management and programming for the Founders Park Pool for use by the DSHS Swim Team, the summer Tiger Splash Team, other swim programs and summer pool
use by the general public. The Pavilion is also available to rent for private use.
Child Development Center The Center provides child care for children ages 6 weeks – 3 years old for DSISD employees,
with limited availability for community members.

DS Kids Fun Foundation (formerly DSYAF) is a
local non-profit organization that helps kids in our
community pay to participate in recreational activities and camps when they wouldn’t otherwise be
able to afford it. DS Kids Fun Foundation believes
that every child deserves the opportunity to be
a part of a team, express themselves artistically,
and learn more about something that interests

Cancellations
Confirmation of registration will not be sent. Assume you are
registered for a course unless you are notified that the class
is cancelled or already filled upon receipt of your registration.
Every effort will be made to notify you by phone if these situations occur. If a class is filled, your name will be placed on a
waiting list. As openings occur, names will be added to the
class according to placement on the waiting list, and you will be
notified. Unless notified, you are officially enrolled. After you
are registered for a class, we will notify you if the class is full
or cancelled. If you do not hear from us, please come to class!

DSISD Facility Use
All organized use of Dripping Springs ISD facilities must be
scheduled through the DSISD Facility Use Office. Please call
(512) 858-3046 for more information or to reserve district
facilities.

We will be happy to refund the full amount of tuition, less a
$10 processing fee, when you cancel prior to one week before
the camp begins. No refunds will be given after this time. No
changes will be made after this time. Fees will not be prorated for late enrollment or missed classes. Confirmation of
registration will not be sent. You will be contacted only if a
camp is full or cancelled. Feel free to contact the Community

ARTS & CRAFTS
Young Rembrandts Cartooning Workshop
Sketch & Friends in Space (Gr 1-5)
Join Young Rembrandts as we travel to the farthest reaches of the galaxy in our Sketch and Friends in Space workshop. This workshop will feature days of exciting, intergalactic imagery as we join familiar characters like Sketch the
mouse, Shade the cat, and Dave the elephant on their futuristic, and other
worldly adventures. You will learn how to illustrate science fiction-inspired
characters and moments, and compose well-drawn cartoon figures in dynamic poses, from astronauts in jetpacks to out-of-this-world alien lifeforms. Get ready to blast off!

Handbuilding with Clay (Gr 1-5)
Come join us in this creative fun clay camp! Pinch, coil, and
pound clay into bowls, mugs, and fantasy creatures. Using basic hand building techniques, first time students and
advanced students will enjoy making and glazing unique
works of art. Oven baked, self-hardening, as well as earthenware clays will be used. You will not want to miss out on the fun!

Shape Your Perspective (Gr 4-6)
Come fill your day with art as you learn how to create a tree
house in 2 point perspective, a Salvador Dali 1 point perspective room, and a geometric 1 point perspective collage!
You will learn the art of coloring with value and depth along
with honing many more of your artist skills!

Weaving Fun! (Gr 1-5)
Come join in the fun as we weave with paper and yarn.
Using cardboard looms you will create a wall hanging and
small containers with a variety of yarns and fabrics. You
will also paper weave to create note cards and works of art.

Birds of a Feather (Gr 1-3)
Come join the fun as you design a series of bird designs,
such as whimsical mix media bird, a happy and bright cardboard bird, and Modeling Clay bird. You will enjoy a variety
of art applications!

Young Rembrandts Elementary Drawing Workshop
Monsters, Creatures and Creeps (Gr 1-5)
Laugh-out-loud funny! Mind-bendingly-creepy! Eerie-butexciting! If you are a fan of creepy, crawly monsters, our
Monsters, Creatures and Creeps summer drawing workshop is a ghoulishly good fit. During this workshop, you will
learn how to draw fantastic monsters of all shapes, sizes and colors. There
are big monsters and little monsters, furry monsters and scaly monsters,

all with humorous expressions and animated poses. If you can imagine a
monster, we will draw it!

Young Rembrandts Pastel Workshop Ocean Life
(Gr 1-5)
Fun-filled days await you as you explore ocean life as you
learn to draw and color with pastels. You will create detailed, pastel compositions on each day, focusing on a different ocean-themed subject, including eye-catching sea
stars along the shoreline, a pair of vibrant clown fish, a sea turtle with bold
patterns, and a wondrous scene of jellyfish. Challenging drawings reward
our artists with a great sense of accomplishment, and the take home projects are beautiful!

BRAIN BUILDERS
Enjoyable Coding with Alice (Gr 6-12)
Alice uses drag and drop programming approach, which
means there is no misspelling or syntax errors! You can convert your idea to code quickly and see it in action!! You can
code 3D animations or games with ease. Alice comes with
a powerful graphics library that minimizes the coding effort. Campers MUST bring their own laptop, lunch/snacks and water bottle.

You will learn critical thinking logic skills through games and
activities. It is time to stretch that giant muscle in your head
in a fun way. Learning to think is the key to future success!

LEGOs® - Not Just Toys (Gr 2-5)
LEGOs® are more than just toys. Campers will learn critical thinking, engineering, perspective, and storytelling
through building with LEGOs®.

Rube Golderg Inventors (Gr 3-6)
Come perfect your engineering skills by testing and inventing crazy contraptions that solve simple tasks! You will
build simple machines from wood, cups, marbles, dominoes, balloons, and many other household items to work
together to solve problems. You will combine these household items with real circuitry projects built from scratch, like a touch sensor, to create multi-processes and solve a problem. Want to pop a ballon
or turn on a light? Why not build multi-step contraptions to make that task
more fun? In this camp, students will learn the principles behind many
physics, engineering, and mathematical concepts and make your unique
contraptions come to life.

Come have fun as we learn all about the 5 senses! We will be
engaging in art activities, making fun snacks, and we will go
on walking field trips around campus to put our 5 senses to
use! Don’t miss out on this learning-filled week with DSISD

Computer Projects Camp (Gr 3-6)
You will learn many exciting web-based applications and activities. We will develop technology skills in creativity, information sharing, blogging, presentations, video production,
photography, and photo editing. This camp will include
lessons using Google Drive, POWtoon, iMovie, Powerpoint,
Prezi, Flowboard, Smore, Canva, Popplet, podcasting, digital photography,
photo editing, beginning coding/programming application using Scratch
and Tynker and how to create an iPhoto book. You can use all these skills
next year for fantastic class projects and assignments.

Electronics, Robotics, & Programming Camp (Gr 3-6)
If you love Electronics, Robotics, and Programming - then
this camp is for you! You will be using the new LittleBits
electronic circuits, makey makey kits, Ozobots and Sphero
programmable robots to build electronic creations and learn
programming and coding. All you need is your imagination
to create and design your own models. All interaction will be done using an
iPad which will be provided during the class. You may also bring your own
device for programming and using the robots.

Come join us for an exciting pet themed camp! Students will
enjoy fun-filled activities led by DSISD employees. This camp
will include language rich activities, theme-related stories,
music, and crafts. This camp is perfect for those parents
who just need a break of their own. Students do not have
to be toilet trained to attend. Children with special needs are welcomed.
Don’t miss out on this FUN experience! Please send a water bottle and

Bricks 4 Kids - City Builders and Architects (Gr K-4)
Explore the structures and landscapes of a city: Campers will work in teams to design and build the city of their
dreams, using LEGO® bricks. The architects may plan a road,
propose a monument, design a park or school, or imagine a
skyscraper. Builders will put on their “safety hats” and assemble motorized models of construction vehicles and equipment. Additional inspiration provided by LEGO® City model sets.

Bricks 4 Kids - Miners and Crafters 1 (Gr 1-5)
Experience the world of Minecraft™ with LEGO® bricks in our
camps! Campers face new challenges each day on our laptops
and our very own Minecraft server. Campers build motorized
models and other key elements from the popular Minecraft
game using LEGO® bricks. Campers also create take-home
mosaics and papercrafts each day. (Each of our three different camps features different challenges and projects, and may be taken in any order.)

GameMaker (Gr 6-12)
This workshop is all about Game development! You do not
need to have a programming background to attend this
workshop. We will use GameMaker software in this camp.

Espanol is Fun (Gr K-5)
Come experience the Latin Culture as you SING, PLAY,
JUMP, DANCE and enjoy FUN ACTIVITIES in Spanish. This INTERACTIVE SPANISH CLASS is designed to promote learning
the Spanish language and culture in a fun way. You will learn
a language naturally and mimic native accents flawlessly. This hands-on class encourages you to become an active participant in
the language and foster a positive, can-do attitude toward language learning. You will start to SPEAK SPANISH ON DAY ONE!. No previous knowledge
required. Students with previous knowledge will be challenged to increase
their skills. Space is limited. Sign up today and give your kids A SKILL FOR

Girl Power (Gr 3-6 as of 9/1/16)
Do you like to hang out with girls and have fun? Do you like
to share feelings and struggles of important issues that you
are facing? Our group will be discussing important issues
in a safe and supportive environment. The GIRLS are given
the opportunity to feel empowered, gain self-awareness,
develop coping strategies, improve problem-solving skills, understand that
they are not alone, and learn to make healthy decisions. The GIRLS will see
throughout the week what is GREAT about being a GIRL and being their
true self. Curriculum that will be used includes: GIRLS: Girls in Real Life
Situations & Group Counseling for Enhancing Social and Emotional Development by Shannon Trice-Black. Bring a daily snack, water bottle, and your
awesome GIRL POWER!

BRAIN BUILDERS
Math on iPads & Laptops (Gr 3-5)
Stay current with your math skills! This camp is designed to
review and strengthen the challenging Grade 3-5 math skills.
We will be using iPads and computers (laptops) for many
engaging math activities including hands-on math games,
applications, problem solving, and critical math reasoning.
We will focus on place value, estimation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions and measurement. Working on individual
math skills will be included too.

Claymation/Stop Motion Movie Making Camp (Gr 3-6)
Come let your creativity loose with claymation and animation. Claymation is a fun and exciting way to tell a story.
You will be using a variety of tools to create your own stop
motion animation movie. You will be using clay, legos, and
cartoon animation to build characters. You will design your
own movie set and storyboard. You will learn to use different iPad apps to
create stop motion movies. iPads will be provided during camp.

Mobile Apps using MIT App Inventor (Gr 6-12)
You have a great idea for mobile app, but do not know how
to program in Java/Objective C? No worries. MIT App Inventor enables you to use drag-and-drop mechanism to put your
creative ideas to work and make Android apps. It will be
helpful to bring an Android phone to test your apps. While
drag-and-drop mechanism is easy to get used to, you will come across lots
of components that need to come together to make a complex mobile application. We encourage elementary and middle school students to complete
Alice camp first. Campers MUST bring their own laptop, lunch/snacks and
water bottle.

Explore the science & engineering behind Star Wars™… using LEGO® bricks! Campers will learn about real-life space
exploration, while building fantasy spaceships, speeders,
droids and more. Camp stations include LEGO® Star Wars™
themed group games, crafts, challenges, and creative building time with our amazing assortment of LEGO® bricks and sets.

Enjoyable Coding with JavaScript(Gr 6-12)
Prerequisite: Enjoyable Intro to Proramming Using Alice.
JavaScript will utilize the graphical environment provided
by Khan Academy. It features a web-page with coding area
and virtual canvas area for output. As you type the code,
output appears/changes. This friendly environment comes
with a powerful graphics library that minimizes coding effort. While instant
drawing output keeps the students’ enthusiasm, students will become accustomed to dealing with syntax errors in a friendly way. Camper MUST
bring their own laptop, lunch/snacks and water bottle.

Programming in Java (Gr 9-12)
Prerequisite: Enjoyable Coding with JavaScript. Java is a general-purpose computer programming language that is used in
the industry and is the preferred language of learning. As of
2016, Java is one of the most popular programming languages in use and is part of the Advanced Placement computer
science exam. This camp will cover the following programming concepts using hands-on exercises in Java: Java fundamentals, if and switch statements,
loops, static methods & arrays. Camper MUST bring their own laptop, lunch/
snacks and water bottle.

Bricks 4 Kids - Secrets of Master Builders (Gr K-4)
Everything is AWESOME when you are part of this camp’s
team! Campers will learn secrets of Master Builders, and explore new or advanced building techniques to make their
LEGO® creations even more awesome. Meet other LEGO®
enthusiasts and trade secrets with them. Participate in a
creative building challenge and take home the final creation!

Little Bit Inventors (Gr 2-5)
Come build a unique robot, create a musical instrument, or
power crazy creations with light, sound, or touch. Using
Littlebits ™ electronic components, LEGO® pieces, and assorted craft materials, you will build unique inventions focused on a daily design challenge. This class explores simple
circuitry and engaging engineering, while promoting the fun of inventing
and building. Each day, you will work together to develop and build your
own inventions centered on unique design challenges.

Reader’s Theatre (Gr 1-3)
This engaging summer camp is designed to enhance language and literacy skills through dramatization. Campers
will choose, plan, practice and perform a Reader’s Theatre
each day. This experience gives you the opportunity to
practice oral reading fluency, build confidence and explore
genre and characterization. Please bring a snack and water bottle each day
for our brain break picnic!

Bricks 4 Kids - Dinosaur Park Expedition (Gr K-4)
Extreme LEGO® brick adventures ahead! Campers will form
teams to wrangle dinosaurs and complete a prehistoric
expedition where they will encounter amazing creatures

Camp Invention is coming back to Dripping Springs. This
year’s inventions are going to be BIGGER and BETTER! Work
in teams to solve real-world challenges using science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts via handson, creative problem solving activities. This camp inspires
students to be curious about their world and prepares them for the future!
You will explore sensory illusions, develop bionic gadgets, design simple
machine integrations, invent and tinker with circuits, and build prototypes.
Children will get the chance to participate in team building, develop skills
and have loads of fun. Each child will need to bring an old electronic or appliance to disassemble and reverse engineer. If students do not have one
available, we will have some to choose from. These gadgets will not be

to include a honey harvesting demonstration, along with how to make various beeswax products to include lip balm and candles. You will take home a

We will train quarterbacks on their pass drops and footwork mechanics as

of a football game, the history of football, and the science of how to fuel

Tiger Strength, Speed and Agility Camp (Gr 7-12)
This summer’s off-season workout program is designed for
student-athletes who are entering into a campus sport, offcampus activities, or just anyone who wants to get stronger, faster, and
more flexible. Whether you are beginning the sports lifestyle or are the
seasoned competitive athlete, you will benefit from this structured, goaloriented approach to improve your ability to run, jump, and change directions, while improving strength, power, flexibility, and confidence.

Lady Tiger Strength, Speed & Agility Camp (Gr 7–12)
The goal of this summer workout program is to provide an opportunity for
our female athletes to gain more strength, speed, agility, and explosiveness in order to compete at a higher level in any sport. The two hour workout will be divided into a weight room session as well as a dynamic training
session using speed ladders, plyo boxes, cone drills, hill and bleacher work,
and core exercises. If your goal is to be the best player you can be, this
camp will help you reach your goals and become a stronger, quicker, and
more competitive athlete.

Tiger Tennis Camp (Gr 1-6)
Join the Tiger Tennis coaching staff along with experienced

Watson Tennis Camp (Gr 1-10)
Whether you are picking up a racquet for the first time or looking to become a tournament player, we have instruction for you. If you are a beginner, join us for tennis “fun”damentals! If you have already been playing tennis, our goal is to improve your tennis skills, wether you are a recreational
player or want to play competitively. This is an excellent opportunity for
you to learn a lifetime sport. Students will be assigned to courts based on

This camp will benefit the competitive tennis player who will be playing

Polo Club Fitness & Fun Camps (Gr 1-6)
Our goal is to develop independence, increase self-esteem, be a part of a
unique community, have fun, make friends, and learn! The campers will
participate in various activities designed to enhance their athletic ability, fitness, and self-confidence. All activities will be designed by our professional
staff and will be presented in an age-appropriate and fun manner. Activities include, but are not limited to, tennis, swimming, other recreational
sports, and arts & crafts. Bring snack, water bottle, and a tennis racquet if
you have one. Racquets are available for those who do not have one.

Join us for this basic skills and drills camp aimed at providing
the young athlete with an understanding of the fundamentals of volleyball.

Ready for Middle School - Volleyball (Gr 5-6)
Middle School is almost here and the first day of school will be here before you know it. Whether you are getting ready for your DSYSA season or
just want an introduction to the sport, this is the camp for you. Learn basic skills of passing, setting, hitting and serving. Learn the Tiger Volleyball
warm-up and basic rotations. This camp is for experienced and beginner
players and designed to improve your knowledge of the sport. We hope
to see you in August!

Learn to Play Volleyball (Gr 3-4)
Are you ready to play volleyball. Come and be a part of Tiger Volleyball in
Dripping Springs. Whether you have played before or not, this is the camp
for you! Learn all of the skills necessary to excel in this sport: Passing,
Setting, Hitting and Serving. Learn to play as we scrimmage each other in
game situations. We hope to see you in August!

Tryouts are just around the corner. The first day of school will be here before you know it. Whether you want to move from B team to A team or just

footwork, rotations and play sets that will help you to be a part of Tiger Volleyball. The more comfortable you are with your environment, the better
tryout you will have.

Archery Camp (Gr 4-12)
Nearly everyone can enjoy success in archery whether or not they are the
tallest, fastest, or strongest person around. The sport or discipline of archery is highly inclusive and is for many enthusiasts, a lifelong activity. Archery is a diverse and super-safe shooting activity with a wide variety of
formats and styles. Come out and learn from start to finish how to shoot
a bow and arrow. All bows, arrows and equipment will be supplied. Students will all be shooting Mathews Genesis compound bows supplied by
camp. All you need to bring is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn
something new. Please bring a water bottle. (Space is limited. If class fills
an afternoon session may be available.)

Cheer Camp (Gr K-6)
Summer is here ... It is time to CHEER! This is your opportunity to get LOUD
and lead the CROWD! Sign up now for a fun-filled week of cheerleading activities. The DSHS Cheerleaders and Tiger Mascot will be leading this exciting summer cheer camp. You will learn cheers, chants, dances, and jumps.
This camp is where the Drippin’ Tiger Spirit begins.

Golf in Schools Summer Camp! (Gr K-5)
Come learn a game you can enjoy for a lifetime! Golf in Schools summer camp is
a terrific way to receive in-depth training in golf swing fundamentals, rules and
etiquette of the game as well as critical life-skills, teamwork, goal-setting, and
striving for your personal best. Our high-energy and up-beat camps serve
as a great introduction to new players, or are a great opportunity to enhance the skills of students who have played the game. Our highly-developed curriculum makes learning golf fun for every student!

Boys Youth Lacrosse Camp (Gr 1-8)
This camp is appropriate for boys at all ability levels. We will implement
the necessary skills for success in field and box lacrosse. Come work directly with HS head lacrosse coach Bill Cafferata and varsity players, they
will teach you what they are learning in varsity training sessions. Campers
will improve their skills while learning basic lacrosse strategy that they will
implement into small sided games. Experienced campers are expected to
bring their own equipment, including mouth guards, protective cups, and
water bottles. For players new to the game and do not have equipment,
don’t worry! We will have equipment available for use.

Mommie & Me Pool Fun (Ages 6-36 months)
Introduce your child(ren) to the water in a fun, non-threatening
way. Children will learn to blow bubbles, float on front and back,
kick on front and back, and get their face wet - all done with games
and songs. A parent must accompany child in the water. (Bring
your own noodle.)

Group Lessons
Beginner: This level helps participants feel comfortable in the
water, gain fundamental safety skills, and is an introduction to
beginning swimming strokes.
Intermediate: This level focuses on the development and improvement of strokes.
Advanced: This level builds endurance and fine tunes the participant’s strokes to become a more proficient swimmer.
Dates: Monday - Thursday for 2 weeks, with Friday to be used as
make-up day in case of inclement weather or instructor absence.

Tiger Splash Swim Team
(T.A.A.F. sanctioned)
Dive into the fun of summer swim team with Tiger Splash!
We welcome T.A.A.F. eligible* kids of all ages and abilities
to jump in and develop a love of swimming while having
fun with their friends. Crazy summer schedules are understandable. Parents are expected to volunteer. All swimmers must purchase separately a black competition swimsuit (one-piece for girls, Jammers or Speedos for boys) and
team swim cap (caps are $10 through Tiger Splash). Sign
up today as space is limited! No refunds after May 13, 2016.
* To be T.A.A.F. eligible, swimmers ages 12 and under (as of
June 1, 2016) cannot have swam more than 90 minutes per
week from January 1 through April 30; all swimmers ages 13
and up are T.A.A.F. eligible.
Ages: 4 - 17 years old (as of June 1, 2016)
Evaluations for New Swimmers: Saturday, April 30th from
2:00-4:30 pm, at Founders Park Pool. For the safety of our
swimmers, all swimmers MUST be able to swim one length
of the pool completely unaided, as determined by the
coaching staff. Completed Community Education registration is required to attend evaluations. Register online at
http://drippingspringsisd.revtrak.net. In addition, completed Tiger Splash paperwork (available at www.tigersplashswim.org) and a copy of each swimmer’s birth certificate
must be submitted at evaluations.
Note: Returning swimmers may submit paperwork
at any time during Evaluations. Registered new
swimmers will be contacted to sign up for a 15minute time slot for a swim evaluation.
