What is The Indy Mega Adoption Event?
The Indy Mega Adoption Event, an initiative of “Love Me, Fix Me”
is a two-day pet adoption extravaganza at the Indiana State
Fairgrounds. On June 20 and 21, participating animal shelters
and rescues across central Indiana bring hundreds of adoptable
animals together under one roof to offer potential animal parents
the opportunity to take home a dog or cat at a reduced adoption
fee.
This is the second year for the Indy Mega Adoption Event. In 2014,
events in June and October saw lines of potential pet parents
wrapped around the building and nearly 2,000 cats and dogs
placed in loving forever homes.
Why is this important?
Thanks to events like this and increased awareness about the
plight of shelter animals, the U.S. has come a long way over the
past few years. Just a few years ago, as many as 20 million
animals were euthanized in shelters each year.
Today, that number is down to less than 4 million annually. But
really, that’s still far too many. As many as 2.7 million healthy pets
are being put down each year because they’re not adopted. In
our area alone, over 5,000 cats and dogs will be euthanized this
year because they’re simply not enough space to shelter them—
and not enough families are coming forward to adopt them.

magazines.

Event At-a-Glance
WHO?
At least 1000 adoptable dogs and cats will be transported to the Indiana State Fairgrounds
and showcased to potential adoptive families. Animals will come from central Indiana rescue
groups and shelters including Indianapolis Animal Care and Control, FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic,
Southside Animal Shelter, Humane Society of Hamilton County, Shelby County, Paws Hancock,
Humane Society of Morgan County, and the Hendricks County Humane Society.
WHAT?
A reduced adoption fee of just $30 for a spay/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped pet
and the opportunity to meet adoptable animals from throughout the region allow potential pet
parents the perfect opportunity to select the ideal animal for their homes and families.
WHEN?
June 20 & June 21, 2015 beginning at 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day.
WHERE?
South Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, East 38th Street, Indianapolis.
WHY?
Our city has a wealth of people dedicated to animal welfare and remarkable rescue groups
and shelters. By working together, we can achieve our common goal: more pets in more loving
homes. By placing animals in homes, we free up shelter space to accommodate animals from
high-kill shelters. Together, we can realize our ultimate goal: to make central Indiana an area
where no healthy animals are euthanized.
