DSF has provided support far and wide over the years to families ofDS Special Agents, local and foreign police professionals, and others in the DS worldwide "family:' Contributions are.given to families in the event of death, illness, catastrophic disasters, and other extreme circumstances. All grants given by DSF are considered gifts and do not require repayment. No membership is required to receive assistance. In the past five years, DSF has provided more than $275,000 in grants to those requiring assistance due to hardship or crisis. I~ Rules for Today's Event Today's tournament will be scored using Captain's Choice, Best Ball Step-Aside Scramble. Teams will record their score on the provided scorecard and return it to the Tournament Scorekeeper upon completion for posting. USGA rules will govern all play with one exception: the ball may be moved one club length but may not be moved from the rough into the fairway. The Golf Club at Lansdowne is a soft-spike-only facility. Please have your metal spikes changed prior to the shotgun start. Please repair all ball marks, replace divots and rake bunkers. Yardages are measured to the center of the green. Ties are settled by scorecard in accordance with USGA regulations. In the event of more than one winning putt during the putting contest, the prize (a gift card to the Lansdowne ProShop) will be divided evenly between the winners. A maximum of four mulligans may be purchased for use throughout the entire course: two on the front nine and two on the back nine. Mulligans may NOT be used on contest holes. Anyone from the extended global DS "family" may be considered for a donation, per review by the DSF Board of Directors, which is composed of active, retired and former DS personnel. 2013 Donations: $24,000 (as of5/15/13) • $1,500 to a DSS Security Protective Specialist who was injured in a terrorist attack in Peshawar, Pakistan. • $1,400 sponsorship (2 teams from DS) of the National Police Challenge 50K Relay which takes place during Police Week and benefits the survivor of LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers) who have died in the line of duty. • $10,000 to the family of a LFG at the US Embassy Ankara, Turkey, who was killed in a suicide bomber attack at the embassy. • $1,000 to a DS contractor at US Embassy Kabul to cover costs associated with his young wife's unexpected death. • $10,000 to cover uninsured medical expenses for a DS employee dealing with a serious medical issue. • $100 in memorial/bereavement donations • 2012 Donations: $100,500 (partial list) • $2,500 to the surviving children of a Local Guard at the US Consulate Peshawar (Pakistan) who was, along with his wife and oldest child, killed in a home robbery. • $9,000 ($3Keach) to three UPOs (Uniformed Protective Officers) at the USUN (US Mission to the United Nations) who suffered catastrophic property losses due to Hurricane Sandy. • $5,000 to the family of an FSN Investigator at the US Embassy Sana'a (Yemen) who was shot and killed by an unknown assailant. • $1,500 to a guard at the US Embassy Majuro (Marshall Islands) who suffered a spinal injury after falling off a seawall. He subsequently died from his injuries. • $5,000 to a Security Technical Specialist (STS) to assist with uninsured medical expenses for his son who was seriously injured in a biking accident. • $1,500 to the family of an LGF at US Embassy Tripoli (Libya) who died from injuries sustained when the gate at the embassy compound broke from its supports and fell on the guard. • $15,000 (total) to several DS Special Agents returning from Benghazi (Libya) to cover unexpected expenses. • $1,000 to the family of a senior LGF at US Embassy Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR) who fell ill while on duty and died shortly thereafter. • $3,300 to the family of a former LGF at US Embassy Baghdad (Iraq). DSF Board of Directors - Call for Nominations Are you interested in serving on the Diplomatic Security Foundation (DSF) Board? The next election will be held this September (2012) to fill slots for two expiring board terms. DSF Board members are responsible for upholding the mission ofDSF which is to provide timely financial support and charitable contributions to members of the u.s. Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service, security professionals, and other colleagues in the law enforcement and foreign affairs communities. Board positions are for a four-year term. Board members must be a current, former or retired DS employee. Board positions require approximately a 2-3 hour time commitment each month (via email), plus attendance at two board meetings a year (for those in the DC area). Board members review requests for support, and oversee the general management of the Foundation. Current Board members with expiring terms may stand for another position on the board but may not be re-nominated for the same position. Board positions are voluntary and receive no compensation. All DSF Board members are required to be dues paying members of the Diplomatic Security Special Agents Association (DSSAA). Interested candidates should advise of their candidacy via e-mail to DSF Executive Director Sarah Rothleder ([email protected]) no later than August 30, 2012. A short bio would be appreciated.
