Cut (16) 37⁄8" x 37⁄8" squares, then cut the squares diagonally to
make (32) triangles.
Using Template A, cut (8) stems. Note: Cut a strip across wof (width of the
fabric) 11⁄4", then use the Template A and cut to shape.
Center Medallion
Using 4 of the leaf blocks that were constructed, sew 2 leaf blocks together, as
illustrated. Press seam to one side. Repeat with the remaining 2 leaf blocks.
Sew the two leaf block sections together, as illustrated. All seams should
interlock. Press seam to one side. Set aside the center medallion and
remaining 4 leaf blocks.
From background Fabric #2:
Cut (8) 31⁄2" x 31⁄2" squares.
Cut (16) 37⁄8" x 37⁄8" squares, then cut squares diagonally to make
(32) large triangles.
Cut (8) 33⁄8" x 33⁄8" squares, then cut squares diagonally to make (16)
small triangles.
Sewing Leaf Blocks
All sewing is done with a scant 1⁄4" seam. Using the small background
Fabric #2 triangles and stems, sew a small triangle to each side of a
stem, as illustrated. Press seam towards the stem. The unit should
measure 31⁄2".
Sew the large Fabric #1 and Fabric #2 triangles together. Press
seam to the large Fabric # 1 triangle. Make (32) triangle square units.

towards Strip 2.
Sew the last Split Triangle #2 to Strip 2, as
illustrated. Press seam towards the triangle. Set aside.
Side Panels: Make 4
Using a matching pair of Fabric #5 panels and a leaf block, sew a side panel
to each side of the leaf block, as illustrated. Do not sew off the side of the leaf
block, but stop at the 1⁄4" seam line and back stitch. This will make it easier to
insert the next step of upper panels.
From Fabric #4:
Cut (4) 31⁄8" x 20" strips.
Expanding A Triangle Leaf Block: Make 4
Fold a Fabric #4 strip, end to end, to find the
center. Match and pin the center of the strip to the
center of the bottom of a triangle leaf
block. Sew together as illustrated,
being careful not to stretch the leaf
block. Press seam toward Fabric #4. Using a large
square ruler, place a corner into the upper corner of the leaf block and trim off
the excess Fabric #4 fabric, on both ends, to make an expanded triangle leaf
block.
Upper Panels: Make 8
Using a leaf triangle block and 2 Fabric #2 triangles, sew one triangle to
each side of triangle leaf block, as illustrated. Press seams toward Fabric #2
triangles.
Sew 2 upper panels in place on a side panel, as illustrated. Press seams as
desired. Complete all 4 side panels.
Sew an expanded triangle leaf block
to each side of your center medallion,
as illustrated. Press seams toward
Fabric #4.
From Fabric #5:
(Note: Adjust your fabric so that the plaids match. Do not worry about the
grain of the fabric.) Square a cut edge with the new fold. Cut
(4) 67⁄8" strips across wof.
From one of these folded strips (Do Not open up the strip), cut a pair of
matching mirror image panels. Cut off the selvage, squared with the cut edge
of the strip. Measuring 203⁄8" along the strip, cut the square with the cut edge
again. Trim excess fabric. Do not move your panels at this time.
Using the 45 degree line on your ruler, place it along the top edge of the strip
at the corner point, and trim excess fabric, as illustrated. Turn the panels
around and repeat with the other end of the strip. When the two panel pieces
are separated, they will be mirror images of one another. Set aside, keeping
them together in pairs. Repeat with the other 3 cut strips.
From Fabric #2:
Cut (4) 14" x 14" squares, then cut squares diagonally
twice, as illustrated, to make (4) triangles each. You will
have (16) triangles from the (4) squares. Set aside.
Sew a side panel to each side of your center medallion, as illustrated. Press
the seams toward the side panels. Sew the mitered corners together. Press
seams open.
Medallion Extensions Bands
From Fabric #2:
Cut (2) 14" x 14" squares, then cut squares twice diagonally to make (8) large
triangles. You will only be using 6 of these triangles. Discard the other two.
Cut (2) 71⁄4" x 71⁄4" squares, then cut squares once diagonally to make (4)
small triangles.
From Fabric #6:
Cut (2) 14" x 14" squares, then cut squares twice diagonally to make (8)
triangles.
Making The Bands: Make 2
Sew the large triangles together, as illustrated, adding a small triangle to each
end. Press all seams toward Fabric #6.
Sew one panel to one side of the center medallion and the other to the
opposite side, as illustrated. Press seams toward the panels.
Side Border
From Fabric #7:
Cut (4) 21⁄2" strips across wof. Sew 2 strips together, end to end, using a
diagonal seam, as illustrated above. Press seam open. Repeat with remaining 2
strips.
Cut these long strips to measure 641⁄4" long. Sew one strip to each side of the
quilt. Press seam towards the border. Note: should any adjustment need to be
made to fit borders, then adjust measurements to the center panel and not the
borders, otherwise the outer blocks will not fit.
Top & Bottom Borders
Using the same Fabric #7, cut (3) 3" strips across wof. Sew these together,
end to end. Cut this long strip into 2 strips 551⁄2" long. Sew one strip to the
top and one to the bottom of the quilt. Press seam towards the border.
Outer Leaf Blocks (Finished block: 93⁄4" plus seams): Make 11 each
Fabric #1 and Fabric #3 leaf blocks
From Fabric #1 (as you did in the beginning):
Cut (33) 33⁄4" x 33⁄4" squares.
Cut (22) 41⁄8" x 41⁄8" squares, then cut squares diagonally to make (44) large
triangles.
Cut (11) stems, using Template B
From Fabric #3:
Cut all the same pieces that you just cut from Fabric #1.
From Fabric #2:
Cut (22) 33⁄4" x 33⁄4" squares.
Cut (44) 41⁄8" x 41⁄8" squares, then cut squares diagonally to make (88) large
triangles.
Cut (22) 35⁄8" x 35⁄8" squares, then cut squares diagonally to make (44) small
triangles.
Following the sewing instructions for the center leaf blocks, make (11)
Fabric #1 and (11) Fabric #3 leaf blocks.
Leaf Border Panels
From Fabric #2:
Cut (9) 15" x 15" squares, then cut squares twice diagonally to make (36)
large triangles.
From border panel Fabric #8:
Cut (4) panels the length of the fabric (approx 120" long). Cut down the center
of the 1" wide border, as illustrated.
Cut (8) 73/4" x 73/4" squares, then cut squares once diagonally to make (16)
small triangles.
Side Panels
Side 1:
Sew the large and small triangles and the leaf blocks together, as illustrated,
using (3) Fabric #1 leaf blocks and (2) Fabric #3 leaf blocks. Press seams
toward the triangles.
Sew the units together, as illustrated. Press seams to one side.
From Fabric #7:
Cut (24) 13/4" strips across wof. Sew 3 of these strips together, end to end.
Press seams open. Repeat with the remaining strips, making 8 long strips.
Sew one of these strips to each side of the border Fabric #8 panel. Press
seams toward the Fabric #7 strips. Repeat to make the remaining 3 border
panel units.
Using the triple border panel unit, locate the center of one panel, and match it
to the center of one of the sides of the quilt top. Pin in place, and along the
entire length. Then sew in place, sewing from seam allowance to seam
allowance. Press seam towards the Fabric #7 strip. Using the other 3 triple
border panel units, sew 1 to each of the remaining sides of the quilt. Miter the
4 corners, being careful to match the seams. Press seams open.
Finishing
Side 2:
Repeat process for Side 2 using (3) Fabric #3 leaf blocks and (2) Fabric #1
leaf blocks. Sew one panel to a side of the quilt with leaves pointing toward
the center, and the other panel to the opposite side of the quilt. Press seams
toward the inner border.
Layer the finished quilt top with batting and the backing fabric. Quilt as
desired. Bind the finished quilt as desired using Fabric #7.
Top and Bottom Panels
These panels are made exactly the same as the side panels except you will use
(3) Fabric #1 leaf blocks and (3) Fabric #3 leaf blocks in each. Start the
first panel with Fabric #1 leaf blocks and the second with Fabric #3 leaf
blocks, as illustrated.
