This year’s nominees from St. Moritz are: Russell Vezina for Maintenance Technician of the Year, Nick Dekold for Leasing Professional of the Year, and Kim Barcelona: (949) 362-7000 Palos Verdes Peninsula Excursion Join us as we venture to the Point Interpretive Center in Rancho Palos Verdes on Sunday, March 3, at 10 a.m. The Interpretive Center is located on an ocean bluff with such fabulous views of the Pacific Ocean that it is used as a center to count the migration of whales each year. The museum inside offers a look at the geology and history of Palos Verdes, artifacts from early settlers, information on whale migration and even a section on the old Marineland. Outside, one can wander the 28-acre park through native plantings and coastal walkways or sit in the amphitheater and perhaps catch a sight of a migration whale. Afterwards, we will head to the South Coast Botanic Gardens to see more than 150 plants and species from around the globe, including southern Africa and Australia. The cost to enter the Botanic Gardens is $8 for adults and $6 for seniors. A $5 transportation fee is due at sign-up. Corona for Bookkeeper of the Year. Los Angeles County Museum of Art With 100,000 objects dating from ancient times to the present, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is the largest art museum in the western United States. It’s a museum of international stature as well as a vital part of Southern California. LACMA’s collections encompass the geographic world and virtually the entire history of art. Among the museum’s special strengths are its holdings of Asian art, housed in part in the Bruce Goff-designed Pavilion for Japanese Art; Latin American art, ranging from pre-Columbian masterpieces to works by leading modern and contemporary artists, and Islamic art, of which LACMA hosts one of the most significant collections in the world. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center in Los Angeles houses European paintings, drawings, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts, and European and American photographs. In addition to the permanent collection, we will have the opportunity to see the new exhibit, “Messerschmidt and Modernity.” The exhibit highlights not only the study of expression and physiognomy during the eighteenth century European Enlightenment, but also the impact the heads have had on the work of modern and contemporary artists. Calico Ghost Town Calico is an old West Mining town that has been around since 1881, and today the park offers visitors a unique experience and opportunity to share in its rich history and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds the grounds. Make sure to bring your cameras, because this weekend they will reenact the Civil War. Departure time is 9 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17. Admission tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for Youth tickets (6-15). A $5 transportation fee is due at sign-up. Universal City Walk Join us as we venture to Universal City Walk in LA. Universal City walk is filled with various restaurants such as The Crepe Cafe, The Hard Rock Cafe, and Tony Romas, to name a few. After you have had a taste of the delicious food, many retail stores await along the shopping strip. Departure time is 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2. A $5 transportation fee is due at sign-up. You will be asked to write a check payable to “The Resort Apartments” and drop it off at your management office. • On the day of the excursion, the shuttle bus will pick up residents from the resorts outside of each property’s leasing office. Whale Watching Join us for whale watching on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. Our tour is ideally positioned to take advantage of the annual Grey Migration, which brings hundreds of grey whales along the Laguna Beach coastline and within minutes of Newport Harbor. Along with viewing grey whales, you can expect to see dolphins, sea lions and marine birds. The cost is $20 and includes transportation aboard the Park Newport Shuttle and your ticket aboard the whale watching boat. Enjoy live music, a parade band, face painting for the kids, a Crazy Hat decorating workshop and much more. You’ll also have time to catch a movie, shop or have lunch at one of the many restaurants.
