EXPERIENCE OUR DESTINATIONS
Dennison and Uhrichsville
Also known locally as “The Twin Cities” these two communities share a common thread of history and national significance. Uhrichsville, houses the Uhrichsville Clay Museum
and shares the incredible story of when Uhrichsville was
known as the Clay Capital of the World with over 30 clay
manufacturers. The Museum offers two floors filled with rare
folk art created by clay workers in their spare time, unique
pipes and tools, miniature salesmen samples, and much more.
Visit the Clay Workers’ Theatre to hear the living history of
some of the men who say ‘when clay was king.’

1.5 million GI’s,
and was nicknamed “Dreamsville.” The Depot is a restored
1873 Pennsylvania Railroad Depot and now houses a museum
with exhibits that fill the original Women’s Waiting Room,
baggage room, ticket office, and Railway Express building.
The Depot stands exactly 100 miles from Columbus and
Pittsburgh, and is located specifically at that point because a
steam engine could only go 100 miles before requiring water.
At its peak, the Dennison Yards were considered to be the
most complete and extensive in the country.
While in the “Twin Cities” enjoy the Uhrichsville Water
park, numerous restaurants and craft stores and outfitters
ready to get you ‘geared’ up.

EXPERIENCE OUR DESTINATIONS
Newcomerstown, Port Washington and
Gnadenhutten
Our southern hills and spectacular foliage are just two reasons to visit the towns of Newcomerstown, Port Washington
and Gnadenhutten. A stop along the canal during the 1800’s
will take you to the village of Newcomerstown and two
very special museums. The Temperance Tavern Museum
will give you an insight into a canal town and the former
home of both Cy Young and Woody Hayes. The Old
Mainstreet Museum is a recreation of the downtown during
the early 1900’s. A visit here during a special event might
allow you to see special singers during Christmas or lively
discussion about the price of sugar during WWII. Just a
short drive to the east will find you in Port Washington and
the Union Hall. Listed on the National Historic Register, the
building houses the historical society with photos and other
memorabilia of the day.
Travel to Gnadenhutten (just a little further to the east)
Ohio’s oldest existing settlement, prospered until the outbreak of the Revolutionary War when the Indians were driven from their homes. In February 1782, they were allowed
to return to their village. On March 8, 1782, following a
night of hymn singing and prayer, 90 men, women and children were massacred and all of the cabins were set on fire
by the Pennsylvania Militia. Today, a museum, mass grave
and monument, and two reconstructed log buildings commemorate this tragic event.

EXPERIENCE OUR DESTINATIONS
Bolivar and Zoar
Bolivar and Zoar boasts many things including a dollhouse
museum and Fort Laurens. The Dollhouse museum located in
Bolivar houses 50 dollhouses made by the owner and include
Martha Simon’s childhood home (a former chicken coop),
antique tin 2-story, Abe Lincoln's home and Sherlock Holmes'
apartment.
Bolivar is also the
site of Ohio’s only
Revolutionary War
Fort, Fort Laurens
which was constructed
in 1778 as a stepping
stone to the West and a
staging area for an
attack on Fort Detroit.
©Andy Donaldson Photography
Currently the museum
contains artifacts from
previous archeological digs, the State Memorial and the Tomb
of the Unknown Patriot of the American Revolution which
serves to honor the 21 soldiers who died.
Zoar Village was recently named as a National Historic
Landmark and was founded in 1817 by a group of German
Separatists seeking religious freedom. In 1819, to survive and
pay for their land, they formed the Society of Separatists of
Zoar, a Christian Communal Society. Due to pressures from
the outside world, it disbanded in 1898. Today, visitors can
revisit the 19th Century at this German-style village. The historic district abounds with restored private homes, shops, and
ten buildings open to tour by the Zoar Community
Association.
The Little Switzerland of Ohio…
need we say more?
The “Worlds Largest Cuckoo Clock” located in Sugarcreek
will dance its dance every 30 minutes for you amongst the
copper kettle and geraniums planted there each year. While
you wait for the clock, visit the Alpine Hills Museum with its
three floors of beautifully displayed local history – celebrating
Sugarcreek’s Swiss, German and Amish heritage. Or visit the
brick mural directly across the street from the clock which is
particularly beautiful at night lighting up the 13 panels of history in brick.
A visit to Ragersville and Baltic which are nearby will yield
another look at our history. The Baltic Area Historical Society is
open to the public and features photos, artifacts, family genealogies, furniture, uniforms and more from Baltic’s treasured past.
Ragersville offers an 1830’s restored School House and the
1897 Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Museum.

EXPERIENCE OUR DESTINATIONS
New Philadelphia
New Philadelphia is not only the county seat, but the home
of Ohio’s first village, Schoenbrunn. Founded in 1772 as a
Moravian mission, the village is reconstructed to appear as it
did over 200 years ago. Crops, the tending of livestock, hunting and craftwork in addition to schoolwork and religious
teachings made up a day in the life of a Schoenbrunn resident
or visitor. Founder David Zeisberger’s grave may also be visited nearby in Goshen on State Route 416. Goshen was a mission village founded after Schoenbrunn. Today, at
Schoenbrunn, 17 reconstructed log cabins, the original cemetery, and 2 acres of planted fields are available to tour.
A trip to the community would not be complete without a
night time visit to “Trumpet in the Land”. Written by Pulitzer
prize-winning playwright Paul Green, "Trumpet in the Land"
is an unforgettable experience that brings to life the Ohio
frontier during the Revolutionary War. Performed in the same
hills from which this story is born, Trumpet is a thrilling and
passionate story of a peaceful people's influence on the war
and the tragic events that encircled the founding of Ohio's
first settlement, Schoenbrunn.
Tuscora Park is an exciting family outing or just a
day of relaxation and has
earned a state-wide reputation as an affordable
place to come for family
fun and entertainment.
The park includes three
pools, year-round picnic

EXPERIENCE OUR DESTINATIONS
Dover
Dover, Ohio has some of the most fascinating (and unusual)
museums in the entire county and claims six different museums as their home.
Truly a one-of-a-kind place, the Warther Museum and
Gardens offers incredible carvings done by the World’s Master
Carver, Ernest “Mooney” Warther, Button House of 73,000 buttons, 5,000 point arrowhead collection, a working knife shop,
and a gift shop featuring the exclusive Warther’s cutlery. Ernest
Warther carved steam engines made of ebony and ivory that are
considered the World’s finest, including an eight-foot carving of
the Lincoln Funeral Train – the largest ivory carving in the
world with over 11,000 pieces carved out of solid ivory.
Just around the corner is John’s Vacuum Cleaner and
Sweeper Museum, with the history of the vacuum cleaner
beginning before electricity was invented.
The Auman Television and Radio Museum lets you enjoy the
sights and sounds of years gone by as you experience two of our
greatest pastimes, radio and television, from their beginnings.
The museum has on display mechanical televisions from the
1920’s and 30’s, a 1939 RCA TV from the New York World’s
Fair, Marconi’s first TV from 1938, the first color TV (1954)
and many, many more. Visitors can view numerous games, toys
and comic books relating to the very early shows of the 1940’s
and 50’s, along with props from movies and TV shows.
American Gas Pump Heaven Ohio offers much more than
gasoline pumps – it’s a treasure trove of Americana and automobilia! This museum displays over 50 vintage gas pumps
(1907 to 1962), tons of classic 20th century road signs and an
awesome working nickelodeon.
Return to an opulent time by
visiting the J. E. Reeves
Victorian Home and its adjoining Carriage House Museum.
The mansion, and former residence of prominent Dover
industrialist, Jeremiah E.

Reeves, is a 17 room Victorian
home, topped by a third floor ballroom, and has been carefully restored by the Historical Society to its original turn-of-thecentury. The beautiful family furnishings can be viewed as
guests take a guided room by room tour of the home.
One last stop in Dover will bring you to the Toland-Herzig
Famous Endings Museum… a place that started back in 1996
when John Herzig's hobby was collecting autographs. John had
requested the autographed photo of legendary boxer Joe Louis
and received a package containing MORE than just the photograph – it contained the program from the fighter's 1981 funeral
ceremony. That event sparked John's interest in famous funerals,
and began his collection, currently numbering some 1,500
pieces… considered the largest known collection of its kind!

Know before you go….
Tuscarawas County experiences a moderate climate consisting
of warm humid summers and occasional frigid winters. Our
warm season usually begins around May 26 and continues
through the latter part of September. During the cold weather
season which runs from December through the first part of
March, precipitation is more likely to fall as snow. On average,
Tuscarawas County sees about 25 inches of snowfall through
the winter with January being the most likely month for heavier
snow. See the most upto date weather at www.TuscWeather.net.
If you truly want to experience all Tuscarawas County has to
offer, consider visiting a local farmers market. Farmers markets have also expanded to offer a variety of delicious homemade products you can enjoy during your visit or long after
you arrive home: jams, jellies, sauces, syrups, honey, cheeses,
meats, grains, spices, and of course bakery-fresh breads,
cookies, pies, and more.
The benefits of shopping at a farmers market are endless:
-Products are fresh so they are more nutritious
-There is increased food safety because of limited handling
and transporting
-Consumers can develop a personal connection with vendors
and can learn proper selection, storage and preparation tips
-Farmers markets offer competitive pricing and the money
you spend goes directly into the producer's hands, helping to
sustain the local economy
The Tuscarawas Valley Farmers Market and our other markets provide visitors with more than a quick shopping outlet.
Call or visit our website for more details.
