Protecting Residents and Visitors from Secondhand Smoke
Smoking is prohibited on the Third Street Promenade, beaches, parks and most of the famed
Santa Monica Pier. The ban also extends to outdoor dining and bar areas, allowing patrons to eat and
drink without the annoyance and health hazard of cigarette smoke. In addition, it is illegal to smoke at bus stops,
ATMs, kiosks, movie lines, Farmers’ Markets, and within 20 feet of any entrance, exit, or open window of a building
open to the public. The penalty for violations of the law is $250.
