Celebrating the incredible musical legacy
of Karen Carpenter with well-loved tunes
such as Yesterday Once More, Close to
You, Top of the World, Jambalaya and
perhaps The Carpenter’s most poignant
songs on their last album, Voice of the
Heart. With superb vocals from Carol
Gordon and the outstanding talents of
the Blue Jeans Band & Singers, this
promises to be a sparkling night to
remember.
New York socialite, Jasmine (Cate
Blanchett), arrives in San Francisco
utterly ruined. As old pretensions and
new deceits begin to emerge, she fouls
up everyone’s lives, including her own.
Blanchett’s multi-award-winning portrayal
of Jasmine is mesmerising and Woody
Allen’s screen drama has been billed as
his best in two decades.
Bafta nominated, Saving Mr Banks is
inspired by the extraordinary untold
backstory of how ‘Mary Poppins’ made
it to the big screen. After a 20 year
struggle to obtain the rights from the
book’s author (Emma Thompson), Walt
Disney (Tom Hanks) pulls out all the
stops and together they set Mary Poppins
free to make one of the most endearing
films in cinematic history.

In 1993 the unemployed amateur cyclist
Graeme Obree broke the world one-hour
record on a bike of his own revolutionary
design, constructed out of scrap metal and
washing machine parts, only to have his title
stripped from him because his design did
not meet Championship guidelines. This is
a moving tale of human determination and
cycling fanaticism.

Dodging speeding cars, crazed cabbies and
eight million cranky pedestrians is all in a day’s
work for New York’s agile and aggressive
bicycle messengers. Wilee (Joseph GordonLevitt) is used to putting his life on the line but
he’s about to get more than he’s used to when
a routine delivery turns into a life or death
chase through the streets of Manhattan.
Cyclists from all walks of life are brought
together by a love of a bare bones singlegeared machine for this beautiful short film
which offers an insight into the broad range of
people that ride around and have fun in the city
of Bristol - inspiring us all to get outside on two
wheels. Suitable for ages 13 years +
For fixed-gear cyclists, Los Angeles is a city
that has it all: from races through rush-hour
traffic to midnight loft parties. To Live & Ride

through the busy streets and back-alleys of
one of the world’s largest cities, from director
David Rowe (Fast Friday) - exploring a side of
L.A. few outsiders have seen. Ages 13 years +

bicycle race from the Pacific to the Atlantic
in less than ten days. By journey’s end,

Wadjda is a fun-loving and enterprising young
Saudi girl, always pushing the boundaries
of what she can get away with. She sees a
beautiful green bicycle for sale and desperately

as dangerous to a girl’s virtue. So Wadjda
decides to try and raise the money herself.

The Carducci Quartet is recognised as
one of today’s most exciting young string
quartets, performing over 100 concerts
worldwide each year. As part of a series of
concerts hosted by ESTA, they will perform
in the Prince Michael Hall: Haydn’s opus
3, no.2 ‘The Joke’, Shostakovich’s Quartet
no.4 and Beethoven’s opus 59, no.2
‘Razumovsky’.
Baroque music of the 17th and 18th
centuries has often been characterised
by its luxurious rich detail. In this second
presentation, hosted by ESTA, Judy
Tarling (violin), Angela East (cello) and
Nathaniel Mander (harpsichord) will
perform exquisite sonatas composed by
Walther, Biber, Vivaldi, Eccles, Telemann
and Bach, typical of the period.
The enormously talented musicians,
David Le Page and David Gordon
perform in the Prince Michael Hall for the
final of three concerts hosted by ESTA.
The evening’s programme will include
inspiring works by Ravel, Bach, David
Gordon, David Le Page, Stravinsky,
Piazzolla and more.
