Basic Description Roaming Guard is unique application, which is useful for anyone who travels abroad, lives or works near a border and resides in national or regional roaming. Roaming Guard simply and reliably guards your data connections and prevents unpleasant surprises, like being presented an astronomical bill for data roaming. Mobile phones commonly use mobile data nowadays. Besides internet browsers and e-mail clients as such, maps, assisted GPS, widgets, games and a number of other applications may be accessing data connection as well. These applications typically request enabling access to the internet upon first use and then continue to automatically access it, even while roaming where data is significantly more expensive. Roaming Guard monitors the application access to data connections and, according to selected settings, enables or denies access. Access may be denied for individual items shown in the application’s main window, MMS, E-mail, Web, Mail for Exchange, RoadSync, Skype, Ovi Maps, Assisted GPS and Other data, depending on installed applications. Depending on the settings, additional applications may be added to the list automatically when they request data access. Change of settings, to Always allowed, Disabled while roaming, or Always disabled is performed by pushing the joystick for the selected item, or by clicking the item. Disabled access to data roaming does not apply to user-defined Friendly networks. The application is localized to adapt to the following languages: Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak and Spanish. 2. Installation Download the three-day trial version at www.roamingguard.com/ download.asp. Transfer the file you downloaded to your mobile phone, using either Nokia PC Suite, sending it via Bluetooth, IrDa, or download it directly to your mobile phone. When installing the application, follow the instructions shown on the mobile phone screen. After successful installation, the application will appear in the main application menu, “Installation” or “My own” directory, depending on the phone model. The application is represented by a “Roaming Guard” icon. Click on the icon to launch the application. When uninstalling the application, all settings and saved data are deleted. When upgrading the application to a newer version, all application data will be preserved. 2011 © CMI Technologies, spol. s r.o. All Rights Reserved. 3 Roaming Guard 3. License, Activation Mobile application Roaming Guard is licensed to end user customers only and limited to a single, private installation, on only one supported device at any one time. The application is published in two versions: • Roaming Guard eX, entitled to a free upgrade to any future version, • Roaming Guard, unlicensed to free upgrades. The Roaming Guard eX, unlike Roaming Guard, must be activated. To activate, select Options > Activation in the main menu and enter the activation key. You can obtain the activation key by purchasing the application. A list of the available e-markets can be found at www.roamingguard.com. You can purchase the Roaming Guard at specialized e-markets only, such as Ovi Store. The trial version of Roaming Guard eX must be uninstalled before installing this version of Roaming Guard. 4. Important Read the License Terms carefully when installing the application. Keep the activation key for Roaming Guard eX in a safe place, in case you need to uninstall or reinstall the application. Please pay attention to the Autostart settings. By switching off the phone, you also switch off the application. After switching the phone back on, the application is begun automatically only if Autostart is set to Allowed. If Autostart is set to Disallowed, you must initiate the application manually. Some applications may not indicate that a connection was disallowed and that the required data transfer failed to occur. For example, if you make this request in an e-mail application Send/Receive, Roaming Guard blocks the access for this application and no data will be transferred. But the e-mail application may fail to notify you of this and you may incorrectly conclude that you have no new e-mail. The application does not in any way affect, enable or deny, a computer data connection when the phone acts as a modem. Leave the application by selecting Hide. Only the selection of the Exit option from the main menu ends the application. The End key (red button) does not end the application and it will run in the background. Registered customers are informed about new versions of the application, via e-mail. When installing the new version, do not uninstall the old one, as you will lose saved data and all prior settings. By installing the new version, only the original version is replaced and all application data is preserved. Depending on the settings, additional applications may be added to the list, if details are automatically obtainable when access to data is requested. Change of settings, to Always allowed, Disabled while roaming, or Always disabled is performed by pushing the joystick for the selected item, or by clicking the item. Disabled access to data roaming does not apply to user-defined Friendly networks. By choosing Hide, the application will run in the background. 6. Friendly Networks Users gradually create a list of Friendly networks to which they don’t wish to limit data access in roaming. Friendly networks can be especially useful to users of mobile virtual operators, but also come in handy for identifying certain advantageous data roamings. The list of Friendly networks appears when you select Settings > Friendly networks in the main menu. In the beginning, the list contains no data and the Add... option enables users to add the network in which the phone is currently registered. The View details option displays the respective name of the operator and the country. The Delete option will delete the selected item. The Add... option adds the current network. This option only appears if the network is not yet included in the list. 2011 © CMI Technologies, spol. s r.o. All Rights Reserved. 6 Roaming Guard Display details of Friendly networks. 7.2. Whether the application is supposed to be controlled individually or according to the Other data settings can be established through the list Settings > Applications. The transfer of an application to the Other data item can also be perfomed from the main window using the C key or from the main menu, option Move to Other data.
