David Binus, President
Shalom and Gut Yom Tov,
This is my last address to the
congregation as my two year
tenure as president is coming to a
conclusion. It’s been a relatively
uneventful term, but was also filled
with a lot activity at the synagogue.
We recently had the Purim magi
loan reading where Rabbi Josh lead
with the help of Illisa Zimmerman:
it was a huge hit. We are planning
a bigger event next year as the
holiday lands on a weekend. We’ve
had some interesting programs
which increased attendance at
services and enlightened on
subjects relating to Judaism.
I must thank my wife, Paula, for
all that she does with onegs, and
anytime we have needed to feed
the masses she has stepped up and
provided service above and beyond
expectations.
I want to thank all the committee
chairs for the attention to their
respective areas in keeping
the synagogue a comfortable
environment so everyone would be
at home when they walk through
the door.
I want to thank all the officers
on the board for your support
throughout my tenure. This past
year, as you know, was a difficult
one for myself and my family, but
you all chipped in and kept things
running smoothly. Illisa and the
sisterhood have been wonderful
by helping with programming, and
and Mandy Sky
We have officially formed a Bikur
Cholim committee under the
supervision of Rabbi Wohl and
chaired by Donna Cohen . Bikur
Cholim ,“visiting the sick” with the
support of our congregation will
help provide care and comfort to
the members of our community
who are ill, homebound, isolated
or members of our community in
distress.
Please join me in being a member
of this committee in any way you
can. I am asking for people who
would like to sign up to carry out
the mitzvah of Bikur Cholim. Let
me know if you would like to visit,
make calls, bake or deliver food to
our homebound .
Our goal for now is to make
sure all the members of our
Congregation/Community will
be seen at least once a month and
food delivered a few times a year
for Holidays or Shabbat. Most
importantly we want to help make
those members who cannot join
us in Synagogue continue to feel
a sense of connectedness to our
Jewish community.
If you are interested in
volunteering, please respond to my
e-mail at [email protected]. We
will then be in contact with you.
Carol Lipitz
will be leading
their confirmation service
celebrating a year of experiences
and topics as Jews Living
in America.
A brunch will be held in the Social
Hall immediately following the
service sponsored by the families
of the confirmands.

The Confirmation Trip was
primarily a social justice mission as
our synagogue partnered with two
great philanthropic organizations,
Behrend Builders and The D.C.
Central Kitchen.
Behrend Builders is an organization
that works to repair, renovate and
rebuild homes for low-income
families and elderly residents in
Washington D.C. Our group was
sent to re-paint and repair the home
of Ms. Deslyn Young, a senior
citizen suffering from Multiple
Sclerosis. We moved her furniture,

than I anticipated in the car ride
home and am now familiar with
the music and lyrics of Kanye,
Fetty Wap and Nicky Minaj. We
also had time to visit the great
apes at the National Zoo and
take a Ghost Tour near the White
House, where we learned about
all the secrets and scandals that
are part of our Capitol’s lore.
The highlight of our touring was
without a doubt the private tour
that we were given at the Capitol
Building by Hugh Halpern.
Hugh had his bar mitzvah at
AAC and is very proud of his
Central Pennsylvania roots. He
is now one of the leaders of the
Republican party and the director
of the House Rules Committee.
Hugh and his assistant Alec got
us access to Paul Ryan’s private
balcony, which contains the best
view in Washington. We also
got to visit representative Pete
Sessions private office, the Old
Supreme Court and the House
Floor.
Our teens were so awesome and
positive throughout the whole
trip. It was truly a memorable
experience filled with great
learning, meaning and a few
laughs. We could not have done
this without the support of our
families. In particular, I want to
sincerely thank Tobi Rispoli and
Betsy Kline for helping me lead
this awesome adventure.
I am very much looking forward
to Confirmation on Saturday,
May 14th when Casey, Mandy,
Ava, Samantha and Adam,
officially become the next
leaders at Agudath Achim
Congregation.
