Social Acti vities & Student Suppor t The programme boasts a strong professional & social link between staffs & students as well as amongst students themselves. Students join the Biohealth Science Club which offers not only the Biohealth Night which features different theme annually but also a buddy system, ensuring a close relationship between senior & junior students. It is not surprising that many students decided to further their studies at postgraduate levels with their respective undergraduate project supervisors. This popular interdisciplinary programme intends to produce graduates who have sound knowledge of biological sciences with special emphasis to its application in medical and healthrelated fields. Biohealth science is a continually changing, dynamic field involving the application of biology-based science for healthrelated purpose, whether in treatment or research and development. Healthcare in the 21st century moves at a much faster pace due to the emergence of various tools and technologies, which undoubtedly becoming increasingly sophisticated. Therefore, the demand for highly skilled biohealth scientists equipped with broad comprehension as well as the necessary practical know-how is steadily growing. These biohealth scientists are not only needed to progressively contribute to scientific research but also in communicating their findings to medical professionals responsible in delivering treatments as well as members of the public and policy makers. The Biohealth Science degree offered by the Biohealth Science Programme of the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Malaya is an interdisciplinary course strengthen by the experience and diverse expertise of its academic member of staff with proven track records in research. The programme strives to contribute in addressing the national requirement for human capital development in biohealth science sectors. Students enjoy the opportunity of studying fundamental biology in addition to a wide variety of biohealth subjects such as physiology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, biochemistry, neurobiology, forensic science and parasitology. Students are also exposed to the latest developments in the biohealth science related fields such as reproductive biotechnology and epigenetic cancer therapeutics. Wide variety of final year research projects are designed to equip students with necessary research skills and they are expected to sharpen their scientific communication skills during the annual research presentation day. In the third semester of their final year of study, students pursuing industrial training will have the chance in broadening their horizon by gaining research experience with the industry and in local medical and research institutions.
