VOL 1 - WINTER 2011 Juha’s TE250 World Champion! Nick Burson 5x USDR Champ! Husky Threads! Cool New Accessories PUBLISHED BY HUSQVARNA MOTORCYCLES NORTH AMERICA, LLC ©2011 Husqvarna motorcycles na, LLC Kris Odwarka President W Starting with the staff, we have more than doubled in size since the start of the year, tripling in Aftersales, with the aim of better serving Husqvarna owners and dealers. Even more impressive than the quantity of our staffing additions is the quality of these professionals. We sought out some of the industry’s best to help facilitate the growth and ever-increasing complexity of our business. TE250 TE449 Our support infrastructure has taken a giant step forward. As you read this, we’re putting the finishing touches on an industry-leading fulfillment organization for our bikes, parts and accessories. By accessing the BMW car and motorcycle Regional Distribution Centers on both the east and west coasts, we can ship bikes and parts to dealers more quickly and at lower costs than ever before. We expect to be able to ship a part for arrival by noon the next day in a pinch, and standard two-day shipping and handling will be of no charge! Our North American dealer network is growing steadily as strong dealers continue to recognize the benefits that only Husqvarna can provide. Here is a list of states where new dealers are taking up the Husky banner: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Utah and Washington. Our product line has taken big strides, both in design and in arrival time. New model year 2012 Husqvarnas have been at dealers since September of this year, and the all-new TXC310 has earned rave reviews from the press, and new owners alike. The TC250 is the new rising star on the motocross scene, but don’t take my word for it. Turn to page 8 to see what the media is saying about the Husqvarna off-road motorcycles. TE310 On the competition front, Husqvarna has had a banner year, as well. Juha Salminen and Antoine Meo both won World Enduro Championships with the CH Racing Husqvarna factory race team. Most impressive is the fact that Meo bested the 450s of the ultra-competitive E2 division on a 310! And with two rounds to spare! Closer to home, Mandi Mastin took her 11th consecutive National Enduro championship on a Jay Hall’s Cycle Husqvarna TXC250, and Zip-Ty Racing’s Nick Burson wrapped up his fifth U.S. Desert Racing championship. Lastly, the Fred Andrews Racing (FAR) team ended the GNCC series with a 1-2 finish in the XC2 class at the Loretta Lynn’s finale. Congratulations everyone! TE511 Is it the journey? Is it the destination? Whatever it is that makes you RiDE MORE, Husqvarna’s line of TE dual sports has you covered. Grabbing Gears elcome back to another edition of RiDE MORE! It’s been quite a year at Husqvarna North America, and 2011 brought a lot of change to our staff, our infrastructure, our dealer network, and most importantly, our product line. We have definitely come a long way in 2011, and we couldn’t be more proud of our staff, our riders, our dealers and our product line. But we’ve only just begun – we’re ready for the gate to drop on the 2012 season where we plan to gain even more traction, and most importantly, RiDE MORE! www. h us q va r n a - m o t o r c yc l e s n a . c o m verb, adv. 1. Husqvarna Motorcycle s NA, LLC The crew at Motorcycle USA get ready for busy day of multi-media and multi-tasking at the Husqvarna’s 2012 press day. Media Takes a Spin The 2012 line of Husqvarna off-road motorcycles made an early and complete arrival in the United States this year, and members of the media and select industry guests were welcomed out to The Ranch in Anza, California in September to check out all 13 models. The presentation alone was rather impressive, given that no one could seem to recall the last time the entire line of Husqvarna motorcycles was dished out so early in the model year, and all in one sitting! Initial impressions of the bikes were vastly positive, and the ride day guests were particularly intrigued by the all-new TXC310, the re-vamped TC250 and the fine-tuned line of TE dualpurpose bikes. Watch the pages of magazines such as Motorcyclist, Dirt Rider, Dirt Bike, Cycle World and more for upcoming features on the 2012 Husqvarna model line introduction at The Ranch! Cycle World’s Ryan Dudek (above and right) was factory RIDER for a day aboard Cory Graffunder’s Zip-Ty Racing Husqvarna TE310 at the Ontario AMA EnduroCross. Due to an unfortunate practice crash only days before the Summer X Games, Zip-Ty Husqvarna’s Cory Graffunder was sidelined with a broken wrist and unable to participate in the premier Enduro X Racing event. The “Gray Thunder” is now back in action, but was forced to sit out the majority of the AMA EnduroCross rounds in 2011. Multiple magazine editors took advantage of the vacancy under the Zip-Ty tent, however, and were guest riders on Graffunder’s TE310. Husqvarna north america’s brand new Corona, California headquarters. The pros were busy elsewhere, but the hard working Husqvarna motorcycles north america staff manned (and woman’d) two teams at the Glen Helen 24 Hour Endurance Race! 48 Hours of Husqvarna RiDE MORE isn’t just a catch phrase; it’s our way of life at Husqvarna. The Zip-Ty Husqvarna team couldn’t fit the 24 Hours of Glen Helen into this year’s race calendar, but that didn’t stop “Team Husky” from representing at the mother of all Endurance races. Two teams, comprised of Husqvarna employees and friends, raced at the 13th Annual HYR 24 Hour, and both teams recorded flawless finishes aboard 2011 TC449 bikes. Husqvarna Tech Specialist Charles Jirsa dedicated his team’s effort to his late mother, Olivia Jirsa, who passed away several weeks earlier. “This was always her favorite event,” Jirsa said. “So this team is dedicated to her memory. A lot of my family and friends came out, so it means a lot to all of us to have a fun race and get a good finish. She would have loved it.” Husqvarna provided further support at the event by catering dinner for all 24 Hour racers. Who is the celebrated champion behind this impressive resume? None other than Mandi Mastin! The Hall’s Cycles-backed rider recently wrapped up her 11th (yes, eleventh!) consecutive National Enduro championship aboard her Husqvarna TXC250. Along with seven other AMA number one plates and two OMA championships, Mastin has racked up an unprecedented 20 national titles in her career, making her the most decorated female rider in off-road. Now at the tail end of her 2011 season, Mastin looks to cap off her year with an appearance at the AMA EnduroCross finale in Las Vegas. We caught up with the busy off-road racer to hear about her 2011 season, and what’s in store for 2012 (hint: she has no plans to slow down)! Each year the EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy dishes up plenty of new bikes and futuristic machinery to the international motorcycle crowd, and Husqvarna used the opportunity to make a splash with a bold new concept: The MOAB. This 650 scrambler was the proud centerpiece of the Husky display, with the retro-inspired styling invoking the legendary image of Steve McQueen. The color scheme, right down to every last detail, both in bodywork and mechanics, is taken from Steve McQueen’s immortal 400. Yeah, it is. Eleven in a row! It makes me feel old when I see that! [laughs] This year has been really difficult. It seems like everything this year was crammed into the summer. From June to August, I was so slammed because not only do I have a full-time job and my racing, but I also have the container Yeah, pretty much. I think I’m going to do the same thing. I’ll do the GNCCs and National Enduros. Every year I talk about not doing the National Enduros because they are so spread out and it’s more expensive with all the driving. But then at the same time I look at the 11 championships and I don’t want to just give it up. So I’m pretty sure next year And this is your 11th National Enduro title? On top of having a full race schedule with National Enduro and GNCC, you also have the ISDE every year, which is a huge commitment. How have you been able to keep up that pace? As for 2012, do you already have a program put together? I’ll do the National Enduros, the GNCCs and then I’d like to do more EnduroCross rounds. And once I actually see the schedules, I’ll see if I can get anything else on my plate! [laughs] With so much success in the National Enduro series here, have you thought about competing in any World Enduros? I was trying to do one last year. But it was short notice and I couldn’t get things put together in time. I did talk to people this year in Finland about trying to do a couple of the rounds [in 2012] and I talked to Maria [Forsberg] and she wants to do them, too. The World Enduros are really technical and the courses look really fun. And the girls like Ludevine Puy and the Swedish and the German girls are really good riders. I know Maria would do well at them and I think I’d do good, too. So yes, I would really like to try out some of the world rounds. 6 • • said. “In the desert it always feels really natural. You don’t have to change the gearing because the sixspeed transmission gives you a lot of bottom end and still a lot of top end. David burson PHOTO • I’m really stoked to end the series on such a good note!” Aside from a nearly flawless season in USDR, Burson had several other high points in 2011, such as his victory at the VCMC Qualifier Enduro at “The Ranch”, where his strong performance showcased his skill as a tightterrain specialist, as well as a desert authority. Much like his 2011 Husqvarna TXC511, Burson is very at home in the wideopen, high-speed terrain, but is surprisingly capable in the technical conditions as well. “The TXC511 with CTS handles really well,” Burson The MOAB can trace its origins to our models from that period, legendary bikes that are offroad milestones, especially in the U.S. This is one reason for the name MOAB – after the evocative desert in Utah which every year draws huge numbers of off-road bikers. Its design follows the lead of the latest generation Husqvarna models, including the concave shape of the fenders, and unique front number plate. Tradition and high-tech innovation blend successfully with unique details like the digital instrument panel situated in the upper crossbar, the LEDs on the front number holder and the tail light. Husqvarna Italy unveiled another innovative piece – this one off the assembly line and not a concept platform. The Nuda 900 has entered production and has many asking if this hybrid Supermoto/Naked bike will reach North American shores. There are no plans at this point, but the Nuda 900 and 900R are further evidence of ideas evolving at Husky. Keep your eyes peeled for more! NICK BURSON:CHAMPION! All Nick Burson needed to do was finish the race - or in this case, make it to the halfway point - to claim the title, but the dominant USDR star decided to close out his season with another win. Zip-Ty Husqvarna’s Burson charged to a convincing win at Red Mountain, California for the fifth and ultimate round of the U.S. Desert Racing championship. “I actually led from the beginning,” Burson said. “But I took it easy for an hour because you only have to do half the race to get points. But once I got an hour in, I relaxed and picked up the pace. Meo & Salminen Crowned enduro World Champions! So we have to do that in the spring, get all that coordinated and this year it shipped in June. To be honest, it was really tough. When we got back from Six Days, I actually didn’t race for about five weeks. I just came home and I was pretty burned out just from everything going on and just took a break. It’s been kind of up and down. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster. But at the same time I’ve learned a whole lot. I’m on a new bike, my Husky is great. It’s been a lot of learning throughout the whole year, so it’s been up and down, but in the end I’m happy and I ended up winning the National Enduro championship. EICMA 2011 GOT AN OPINION? Here’s a sampling of what the top editors have to say. We were thrilled to reveal the 2012 line of Husqvarna offroad motorcycles to the media in August of 2011, and since then, the newest Husky models have been splashed across the pages of motorcycle magazines, and appearing in features, reviews and videos on the web. Here’s another look at the entire line of 2012 Huskys. Cycle News – September 2011 scan for more press reviews “We’ll get straight to the point – [the new TXC310] is a kick in the pants to ride. It has a fun motor that covers all the bases… But what probably stood out most was the TXC’s light-feeling and agile chassis. Steering is light and precise and is just so easy to throw around and maneuver. We’re quite sure this will be Husky’s most sought-after off-road machine in 2012.” Dirt Bike Magazine – October 2011 “For some time, we’ve suspected that this is the best bike in the Husky line. Now that we have some time on it, we realize the 310 can contend as the best dual-sport bike anywhere.” Motorcyclist – May 2011 “Husqvarna is a great marque, and support behind the bikes is at an alltime high, so expect to see a greater number of the red-and-white bikes on the tracks and trails near you.” 8 TXC Cross-Country Made for the trail, but bred for competition, the Husqvarna line of TXC motorcycles is designed to meet the high demands of U.S. off-road racing. Based on the TE platform and infused with the high-performance tuning of the TC motocrossers, these hybrids bring a sharp competitive edge to the rugged world of off-road competition. Bored and stroked from the 250cc platform, the allnew TXC310 provides phenomenal low-end torque while still retaining quick-handling characteristics of a small-bore. TE Dual-Purpose For 2012, the most versatile line of street-legal off-road motorcycles widens its scope even more with the introduction of the revised TE250. Nearly two inches shorter than the 310 by way of lowered suspension, the TE250 is very approachable for “inseam-challenged” riders. At the same time, it spares nothing when it comes to the high-performance and top-level components of the Husqvarna TE line! TC/CR Motocross/GP A dose of F1 race technology punches up the performance of the new TC250. The chassis is fine-tuned with revised Kayaba suspension and a stronger chromoly frame. Robust power and sharp handling make it Husky’s most competitive 250 yet. Get ready to flex some muscle on the track with the re-vamped TC449. Upgraded ignition, revised valve timing and redesigned velocity stack equal big power gains on the 2012 TC449. The rules of competition may have changed, but the fun-factory of an eighth-liter two-stroke has not. Take to the track on a Husqvarna CR125 and take along the prime schoolboy class advantage – a 144cc top-end kit – free with every 125! WR Two-Stroke Cross-Country The premix is still flowing at Husqvarna, where the WR line of off-road two-strokes is still going strong. The ultimate in light weight and quick-revving power, the WR125, WR250 and WR300 continue to provide outstanding performance and exceptional reliability.
