Ratchets on Pilling vascular clamps provide the precision
control needed for arterial clamping. Ratchets are designed
with steps (1 x 7, 1 x 9, 1 x 11) to furnish the specific amounts
of desired pressure. Jaws are precision set by hand.

Many styles of Pilling AtrauGrip® clamps are available with
spring handles. With this construction feature, a portion of the
shaft is flattened or otherwise altered and specially tempered
to eliminate rigidity and provide a softness proportionate with
the overall size and purpose of the instrument. The intention
is to minimize trauma to vessels with the soft spring handles
but hold securely with AtrauGrip® jaws.

Since 1814, well before the Civil War, Pilling has designed
and manufactured high quality surgical instruments. As one

cardiovascular and adult peripheral vascular clamps. This
series of clamps combine a narrow 1.5 mm jaw width, with
AtrauGrip® DeBakey teeth. The line also offers a wide range of
multiple occlusion and partial occlusion clamps. These were
designed for use in pediatric cardiovascular surgery including
neonatal, coarctation, and patent ductus procedures. They also

These are multipurpose clamps, full length but light weight,

use as Coarctation or Patent Ductus clamps, they are particularly useful for temporarily occluding renal arteries during

The Trauma Clamp has been especially useful for gaining
immediate control of major retroperitoneal bleeders. Because
of its rounded end, the clamp can be firmly pushed into
deeper tissues without preliminary incision of the posterior
peritoneum or dissection of any of the adjacent structures.
This single instrument can also be used for vessel control
during performance of an arterial anastomosis. When both
arteries are held in a single clamp, the infuriating motion that
results from two vessels being held by two separate clamps in
two different hands is thereby eliminated.
