Tractor rides into the surrounding countryside or rafting on a crystal clear mountain lake are just a couple of the highlights that await you. The farm Pony excursion On our Farm Day children can bake bread with the child minders according to the century-old recipe. Then it’s out into the fields to make hay and to find out what life on a farm is really like. A ride on a tractor, pony riding, feeding and taking care of the animals are all part of the programme. Always a great experience – even children who have been to Felben before never tire of this great excursion. The kids get the chance to ride a pony, sit in the horse-drawn carriage or to drive an electric golf cart. Then it’s time to grill sausages over the bonfire. Right next to the picnic camp there’s a small pond which is ideal for biological expeditions and exploration. Family excursion to a mountain lake Family walk The highlight of the day in the wilderness with the whole family is when we venture out onto the mountain lake, 1400 metres above sea level, on our self-made raft. We steer our way across the lake heading for the island in the middle of the lake. Then we look for animal tracks in the snow and go in search of bears’ dens in the rocks. Do you know what a peat cutter is? This is just one of the fascinating questions about the history, animals and plants of the area that are answered on our walk through the high moorlands at Pass Thurn. You will also get to see a meat-eating plant and of course there’s something to eat for you too: a traditional Austrian ploughman’s lunch awaits you. Robin Hood Tractor excursion Children from 8 years of age head off into the woods on electric golf carts with our child minders. The first stopping off point is our selfbuilt hut in our secret forest camp. Then we make our own bows and arrows out of the things we find in the wood. We build dams across the stream or hide-outs and then the band of merry children raid the hotel Robin Hood style at the end of a fun and exciting day. Armed with nature discovery equipment we go out into the countryside and explore the fantastic wealth of nature that surrounds the hotel. The hours pass so quickly as we examine the animals and insects in their natural habitat. Find out which leaves come from which trees, learn to identify mushrooms and take a closer look at the intricate world of an anthill.
