Cold formed hollow sections
Non-alloyed or low-alloyed steel hollow sections
are made out of hot rolled coils, pickled or hot-dip
galvanized “Sendzimir” strips with zinc plating of the
weld. Mainly supplied for a wide range of structural
and mechanical applications of high precision for
construction and agriculture segments, these products
are also commonly used for plants and machinery
components (rollers, bushes, bearings, spacers, ring
nuts, frames and so on).
Hollow sections are available in different shapes
with circular section (also grooved or with “clover”
shape), square section (also with rounded corners),
rectangular and special sections (oval, semioval,
elliptical); furthermore, a very wide range of special
sections are available for handrails and door or
window frames to be delivered in the domestic and
international markets.

Cold Rolled Coils and Strips
Hot rolled coils can be further processed in the cold rolling
mill (pickling-rolling) to achieve a further thickness reduction
and a “microstructural conditioning” that makes them
suitable for specific applications.
The final product is known as “Cold Rolled” and is
extensively used as a basic material in a variety of
applications, like household appliances, drums, lightdeep drawing (i.e. automobile), enameling, magnetic
and high strength steels.
Cold rolled steels also belong to the Carbon-Manganese
family (alloyed and non-alloyed) and, among them, a
significant portion is represented by micro-alloyed and
Interstitial-Free (IF) steels.
IF steels are characterized by a very low carbon content
(max 40-50 ppm), titanium stabilized and are suitable for
very deep drawing applications. This feature is also ensured
thanks to low inclusion content and low levels of impurities.
Cold rolled steels can be produced with yield strength
ranging from 120 to 420 MPa and tensile strength up
to 590 MPa. Remarkable is the maximum elongation
obtainable by using IF steel which, in the most severe
applications, can reach elongation values even above 42%.

Electro-galvanized
Coils and Strips
Electro-galvanized products are coated with zinc.
Coating is carried out by means of electrochemical
plating on both coil surfaces or only on one surface.
The possibility of coating a single surface with
lower thickness layers is feature of this product
among the families of the coated products.
Electro galvanizing process guarantees high chemical
purity and precise monitoring of zinc thickness
both longitudinally and transversely.
Electro-galvanized products have the same drawability
properties of cold rolled and annealed products and
are very versatile in high strength applications.

Electrolytic Tinplate
and Chromium Coated Steel
Electrolytic Tinplate and Chromium Coated Steel are
used for the production of cans for food storage, crown
caps for bottles, easy-open tops and metallic packaging.
Coils are cold rolled often with a double reduction and
finally either tin or chrome plated. Thickness of final
product can be lower than 0,15 mm.
Grades used for the production of tinplate and tin free
steel are characterized by low impurities content and
controlled levels of phosphorus and sulfur, therefore
suitable for food storage.
Final products show high mechanical properties
together with extremely low thickness.

Hot dip Galvanized and
Aluminized Coils and Strips
Cold rolled and annealed coils can be further processed
in a coating line. In order to ensure a durable protection
of the steel for a wide range of applications , coating is
performed in continuous hot-dip zinc bath or aluminumsilicon alloy bath. In the aluminized products, silicon
content ranges from 7 to 10%, and the iron content in the
molten bath does not exceed 4%. The coating protects the
underlying steel from corrosion through a dual action: a
barrier effect and a sacrificial effect (cathodic protection)
which is guaranteed also in case of damage and in
correspondence to trimmed edges.
This feature, combined with the remarkable attitude
to drawability and formability, typical of cold-rolled
products, makes hot-dip coated coils the perfect product
in the automotive industry, industrial and civil structural
works, construction and structural applications.
Steel grades used for hot-dip coated products are the
same as for cold products, with a predominant use of the
Interstitial Free steels.

Hot Rolled and Pickled
Coils and Strips
Hot rolled coils are used in a wide range of applications,
from construction to heaters and pressure vessels,
from hollow section in furniture application to stamping,
shipbuilding and automotive industries. In order to meet
the most demanding requirements, hot rolled coils are
manufactured in Carbon-Manganese steel (alloyed and
non-alloyed) and High-Strength Low Alloyed steel (HSLA).
These products can be manufactured within a yield
strength range between 185 up to 420 MPa and with
tensile strength above 600 MPa.
Hot rolled coils, that are chemically processed to remove
surface iron oxide, are sold as “pickled” products with
resistance ranges similar to those of hot rolled coils.

Longitudinal Welded Pipes
Longitudinal Welded pipes are manufactured in (non-alloyed
or low-alloyed) Carbon-Manganese steel with tubular shape,
produced by forming a flat product (plate or strip) across the
width, and then by welding along the length.
Welding can be carried out either with the process of
submerged arc welding (SAW) with filling material, or
with the process of high frequency electric resistance
welding (HFW-ERW) without filling material.
SAW pipes have diameters ranging between 18” to 56”, wall
thickness ranging between 6 mm and 38 mm and lengths
from 6 to 18 m. HFW-ERW pipes have diameters ranging
between 8” to 20”, wall thickness between 4 mm and 12,7
mm and lengths from 6 to 15 m.
Main applications range from Oil & Gas transportation
and distribution to water transportation and industrial
applications, also including structural ones like circular
hollow sections.
The steel grades can be produced with yield strength from
245 MPa to 555 MPa and tensile strength from 415 MPa to
625 MPa, in some cases with impact test at temperatures
between -40° C and +20° C.
For all applications subject to internal pressure, hydraulicpressure tests from 70% to 95% of the yield strength are
performed on each pipe.
Pipes are supplied either bare or internally (using epoxy
resins) and externally coated (3LPE, 3LPP, FBE).

remarkably lower than the other two dimensions.
Product wall thicknesses range from 8 mm to 150
mm; profile slabs with thickness between 150 mm
and 290 mm are also produced. Widths can vary from
1000 mm to 4500 mm, and lengths from 4 m to 25 m.
Lower width or length can also be supplied by cutting.
Target segments are structural applications, metallic
constructions, shipbuilding and pressure vessels.
The steel grades can be produced with yield from 235
MPa to 460 MPa, and tensile strength from 340 MPa to
550 MPa, in some cases with impact test at temperature
conditions between -50°C and +20°C. Quarto Plates are
supplied with black surface or with surface treatments
such as sandblasting and priming.
