Sports South Platte Sentinel SHS track teams place first and second By Ken McDowell Sports Editor KEENESBURG – The Sterling Lady Tigers placed first in the Fifth Annual Rebel Roundup Friday at Weld Central High School and in the boys meet Sterling was runnerup. The Lady Tigers scored 103 points to place first in their meet out of 23 teams and the Tigers scored 68 points for their second place finish. Placing first for the Lady Tigers in their meet included junior Phoebe Vandemoer in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.26 and in the 300-meter hurdles with a clocking of 48.12; the Lady Tiger 4x100-meter relay team of Vandemoer, juniors Jamie Sheldon and Heather Petarde and freshman Alexis Rutz and the 800-meter sprint medley squad of Petarde, Rutz, Vandemoer and senior Jordan Locke at 2:00.61. Placing first for the Tigers in the boys meet were junior Eric Hernandez in the 3200-meter with a time of 10:43.62 and senior Brayden Nelson in the triple jump with a distance of 43-4.50. Both Sterling squads will compete in the Bronco Stampede in Kersey Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The Sterling Invitational will be held Sat., April 26. Sterling was scheduled to play at Brush Tuesday in a Patriot League game but that contest was snowed out and has been re-scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. The Tigers are still waiting to see if they can play their home game Thursday against Valley.
