This will be a place where the guest can choose their own experience and be immersed in the local environment and culture, while still enjoying the amenity and comfort of luxury resort-style accommodation. The hotel, located in central Mentang between two of Jakarta’s famous streets – restaurant mecca Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim and good time strip Jalan Jaksa, contributes to and reflects the recent revitalisation of Jakarta street life, by externally locating hotel facilities and arcades to create connections with pedestrians and the urban surrounds. The hotel mediates a connection between both streets by offering both hotel guests and the public dining options, from food trucks serving the local hawker style food and street snacks found on Jaksa, to diner, restaurant and café options more familiar to Wahid Hasyim. The form and materials of the hotel will showcase the history and tradition of Indonesian fine arts and crafts drawn broadly from the Indonesian archipelago. This includes floor tiles produced by equipment dating from Dutch colonial times, full of the intriguing variations and imperfections that reflect the early industrial era. Whilst the use of local craftsmen and techniques pays homage to the cultural history, the services and communications of this hotel will feature highly technological advancements and integration, including smartphone apps for check-in and check-out. Likewise, the glass façade features a series of sunshades that remove all orthogonal incidence of sunlight – protecting the building from solar penetration. This blend of old and new technologies will revolutionise accommodation for business visitors and tourists creating a sensory experience that is unique to its location. Approaching the hotel you immediately realise you’re not in Kansas anymore – this hotel is not imported mid-Western commercial architecture but design that is sympathetic to the landscape it sits in, recalling other local highlights such as those by Paul Rudolph and Oscar Niemeyer. Entering the foyer is more like entering a lounge, with a multi-function cocktail bar offering drinks and reception services in the centre of the room. A deli café sits off to the side where guests can grab meals or a bottle of wine to eatin downstairs or take-away to their rooms. The space is constructed from finely crafted, textured materials and features contemporary works from local Indonesian artists. 01 Level two of the podium houses a full range of conference and function facilities including a ballroom, terrace spaces, boardrooms and lounges that can be configured to cater for groups of any size (there are 13 function rooms that can house over 50 people!). On top of the podium rests a pool, alongside which sit the spa villas – this hotel’s alternative to the day spa – accommodation where the pamper package comes to you. Poolside cabanas overlooking the split-level sheet of water can be used as massage rooms during the day and party pavilions at night. Moving up into the tower, all rooms feature the facilities of serviced apartments – allowing the hotel owner, a veteran of the industry and one of our champions on this revolution, increased flexibility to meet seasonal demands for either hotel short-stays or apartment long-stays. The material palette brings the stonework, rope and rattan weaving of the local area into a clean, modern setting. Our client’s hotel experience also guided our structuring of service areas – for the first time back of house facilities are fore grounded and integrated with front of house – guests mingle with staff in bars and recreation spaces. To aid efficiency, the traditional centralised podium of back of house services has been stacked in zoned layers emerging on each floor. By turning the idea of the branded hotel inside out, our new Jakarta Hotel includes the city in its design rather than secludes itself from it – welcome yourself to the future of tourism and experience the ancient and modern culture of one of the world’s emerging global hubs. 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 JAKARTA HOTEL MATERIALS, FINISHES, PRODUCTS VISUALISER CONTACT DETAILS CONTACT BUILDING SPECIFICATION DETAILS BUILDING FRAME & FABRIC FLOORS: DARK STAINED TIMBER FLOOR TO DINING ROOMS AND FUNCTION ROOMS.
