Special thanks to Mary, Carrie and Sue Rongey, Sales Director for Aeries Terrace for
planning such a spectacular event. Thank you to our gracious hosts, Jeff and Sandy
Lorton for sharing their beautiful banquet center with our members. Thank you,
Pastor Don Stribling for starting our evening out right by reflecting on our many
blessings. Thank you to our emcee Ben Goetten, who kept our evening agenda
flowing and to Pat Shell for once again doing an excellent job on the preparation of the video highlighting
our business segment both added some laughter and fun to our evening.
Special thanks to all who pitched in to register our guests and sell raffle tickets, these events would not be
possible without all of us pulling together. Thank you to everyone who supported our 50/50 and wine
raffle, congratulations to our 50/50 raffle winner, Debra Dean.
This year, Mary had an excellent idea to recognize a “Business Segment” instead of a specific business.
This allowed us to recognize all of our financial institutions which are a vital part of the JCBA and our local
community. Congratulations to our 2014 Business Segment recipients:
•1st Mid America Credit Union
•Bank of Calhoun
•CNB Bank & Trust, N.A.
•Farmers State Bank
•First Bank
•Jersey State Bank
•Jerseyville Banking Center
We were fortunate to have several distinguished guests join us for this wonderful evening. These elected
officials serve our communities by providing leadership and guidance that in most cases offers little financial
reward and all too often judgement by those who are not willing to step up themselves. We appreciate those
who serve our cities, county and school district and thank you for your continued support of the JCBA.
For those who were unable to attend, our membership recognized
Carrie Decker for her contribution to the JCBA and introduced
our new Administrative Assistant, Beth Steckel. Beth, her husband
Dale and their family live in Jerseyville. Dale works with his family
business, Steckel Produce. We are excited to have Beth start with
us on Monday, April 6th. Please stop in and introduce yourself and
your business to Beth. Thank you to Rosemary Munsterman who
worked in our office in the interim, Rosemary is a “class act” and we
appreciate her assistance.

JCBA Director’s Report
by Mary Heitzig, CEO
Agriculture is one of
the most important
businesses in Jersey
County and CNB
is heavily involved
with not only homes,
businesses, churches,
and individuals but
agriculture as well.
Our Annual Meeting held on March 26 was
very successful. This year, we were pleased to
recognize all of our Financial Institutions for the
important role they bring to the improvement of
our community. I refer to them as PARTNERS
IN PROGRESS, as they are always involved in
not only financial matters but with the many
positive events taking place in the City and
County. They all play a major role in supporting
all of the activities which help our community be
a better place in which to work, live and enjoy a
great quality of life.
During our Annual Meeting, Pat Schell
presented a delightful video production featuring
all seven of our award recipients. And as the
evening progressed, it became apparent that
we were going to go overtime on our planned
program. I had prepared brief remarks on each
financial institution to be used at the time of their
individual award presentation. Unfortunately we
did not have time to present this information, so
I have chosen to use this page to highlight these
remarks so all of our membership will be aware of
the information.
1st Mid-America Credit Union
Since 1934, 1st Mid-America has been helping
families grow financially – from dreams of owning
a home to expanding their small businesses or
saving for a comfortable retirement. 1st Mid
America’s commitment to the communities they
serve has never been stronger, having surpassed
their fundraising goals to help the community.
In 2014 they raised and donated more than
$100,000 and dedicated over 2100 hours of
volunteer work. Many of their programs are
geared to education. Award was presented to
Alan Meyer, President/CEO.
CNB Bank
CNB is the oldest continuously chartered bank
in the State of Illinois. It was established in l854
in Carrollton. The Jerseyville branch opened at
533 South State Street in March, 1996. They
celebrated their 160th birthday in 2014.
They work with the SBA and Farm Service
Agencies in order to make loans which may not
qualify for conventional financing. CNB is very
active in making loans and investing back in the
community.
CNB puts a lot back
into the community
in the form of direct
donations to many
charitable organizations, etc., as well as through
their employees who volunteer their time and
resources for worthy causes. They have provided
me with a list of 43 local organizations they
support each year. Accepting their Award was
Tony Heitzig, Regional President and a former
Board member of JCBA.
Bank of Calhoun County
The history between the Bank of Calhoun County
and its Jersey County customers can be traced
back to the founding of the bank some 117 years
ago. However, the true test of the relationship
came during the massive changes resulting from
the flood of 1993.
With the flood waters preventing our customers
from reaching our main office, the Bank of
Calhoun started what they thought would be
a temporary facility in a vacant building on
Main Street in Fieldon. When that temporary
facility became a permanent fixture a few years
after the flood, it was more than just a simple
business decision; it was a turning point in a long
rebuilding process for both the Bank of Calhoun
and the Jersey County area. Now, after 22 years
of service with our Fieldon Facility, we take pride
in our community reinvestment and our common
sense approach to community banking. We hope
the next two decades are as rewarding as the
last two. Christopher Simon, President/CEO
accepted their Award.
Farmers State Bank
Farmers State Bank celebrated its 125th
anniversary in 2014. The bank has been
owned and managed by the same family since
the beginning. Nevin Grigsby is the current
President of the Bank, while has father Lewis still
serves as CEO and Chairman of the Board. They
currently have 5 locations with the main office
located in Pittsfield, IL.
Farmers State is proud to serve Jersey County.
They have partnered with local residents and
businesses to assist them in reaching their
financial goals since opening their Jerseyville
location in November, 2002. They offer a wide
range of products and services to meet the needs
of consumer and commercial customers. They
are the only bank in the area to offer a reward
program which rewards their customers as they
First Bank
For over four generations, First Bank has
enjoyed a legacy of strength, agility, and longterm perspective. Since 1910, we've remained
dedicated to serving the communities in which
we operate with an unwavering commitment.
This commitment began over l00 years ago in a
small, rural community in St. Louis, to help local
clients reach their financial goals. And, although
First Bank has grown to be one of the largest
family-owned banks in the country, the steadfast
commitment to serving our clients – and treating
them like family – still remains the same.
From Main Street America to large-scale
metropolitan areas, First Bank continues to
be a vital part of the communities in which we
serve. At First Bank, you’ll find the products
and offerings typically found only with larger,
publicly held financial institutions. Quite simply,
we’re big enough to provide the products and
services you need, but small enough to provide
caring personal service. At First Bank, our
clients become part of the family. The Award was
presented to Shane DeSherlia, Vice President/
Commercial Loan Officer.
Jersey State Bank
Jersey State Bank chartered in 1903 and has
been a fixture in Jersey County for over a
Century. Presently with two locations and assets
in excess of $140 million, they serve not only
Jersey County but the surrounding are as well.
They are the only locally owned and operated
bank in Jersey County.
Altogether, they have 35 employees and 6
directors who have a vested interest in the
success of the community. They offer a full array
of both products and services to meet the needs
of our growing communities. James Hoefert,
President/CEO accepted their award.
Jerseyville Banking Center
Established in 1990, Jerseyville Banking Center
was the first branch location for Carrollton
Bank. Carrollton Bank, established in 1877, is
currently led by Tom Hough; the fifth generation
of the Hough family to lean Carrollton Bank.
Originally located at 201 West Exchange, JBC
relocated to its current location in October
2009. The move was made necessary due to the
Bank’s growth in the Jerseyville area. With a full
array of Banking services, JBC proudly serves the
financial needs of Jerseyville and the surrounding
area. The Bank is also an active participant in the
community. Providing not just financial support
to various organizations, but also providing
volunteer support. A proud member of the
Jersey County Business Association, JBC takes
satisfaction in promoting our community and
its future. The Award was accepted by Alan
Karcher, Regional Senior Vice President.
