Targeting in FB Ads
To start off with, Don’s course costs $997. You need to decide if that’s a price-tag you’re going
to be able to handle, and you want to be sure that it’s right for you.
We’re going to reveal a few things about why you should consider this system. For one, it’s
something that anybody can do. And two, we’re going to show you different ways that Don is
doing to make over $1,000 in various niches that you can easily replicate.
Something that people are doing right now to make money (that Don pioneered a lot of) is
Teespring. The good thing about Teespring is all you have to do is put a design on a t-shirt, list
it, and run traffic to it. If it makes sales and makes money, then you leave it on. And if it doesn’t,
you turn it off. You don’t have to worry about customers, and you don’t have to worry about
inventory. Teespring is a really good business, especially in getting started with PPC and making
money online.

From that image we can see that Don is very successful with his Teespring campaigns. It just
proves that he knows what he’s doing, and is not making any false claims. $78,267.98 ready to
be paid out! Incredible. And yes, that is a REAL snapshot straight from Don Wilson himself.
We can also see from that image some of his recent campaigns that are already making money.
That goes to show the kind of character that Don has. He really doesn’t hold back in his training,
and that is living proof.
You can see that the two campaigns doing the best were the “Master Baiter” (a fishing shirt),
and “Dirt Sky Dirt Sky Dirt Sky AMBULANCE” (a dirt-bike shirt).
Here is a closer look at the Dirt Sky shirt:
According to Don, it was created for motorcycle enthusiasts. It’s a very simple design with just
black and white. “Love to ride? Show it off with this bold tee!”
He sold 364 of them at $19.99. You can see the payout was $4,464.98.
The other top seller was the fishing “Master Baiter” shirt:

Basically he is targeting people that like to fish. That’s a funny shirt they can wear when they’re
out there fishing, and it will make people laugh.
So what we’re going to show you is how to make witty shirts. It doesn’t have to do anything
with sports, or motorcycles.
We’ll show you how to make the ads, and basically everything.
The best part is you don’t even have to spend a lot to make the design. You can hire someone
on Fiverr to make a design. It’s not a difficult design.
Pretty much you hire someone to make the design, you create a page to promote the
newsfeed, and then you make an ad.

If you can see the image, this was Don’s best campaign. Don likes to start with celebrities,
brands, and events. You will want to keep those 3 criteria in mind. In the image below, you can
see “Motocross World Champion” (event), “dirt bike rider magazine” (brand), and “Jeremy
McGrath” (celebrity):
It’s a good starter entrance with 600,000 people, and all he did was promote over to Teespring
as a website click. He didn’t use any fancy templates or anything, and all he did was place it on
Facebook ads.
That’s how easy it is. You just enter in your demographic that matches your shirt, and see if it
earns.
That wasn’t the only Facebook ad that Don ran. He also did this:

With “Ryan Dungey”, and “Kevin Windham” being the celebrities, “Motocross World
Champion” as the event, and again “Dirt Bike Rider Magazine” being the brand.
That added Don another 240,000 people, which allowed him to broaden it even more. Basically
he broadens the ad much as possible to around 1.28 million people.
From the ads you can easily tell how much ROI (return on investment) they are making, and if
they don’t show a positive result, you can simply turn them off.
So from those two campaigns…
Dirt Sky Dirt Sky Dirt Sky:

Money in: $2,211.87 (the total spent on the ad)

Money Out: $4,464.98 (the amount earned)

NET: $2.253.11
Master Baiter (fishing tee):

Money in: $2,334.31

Money out: $3,771.96

NET: $1,437.65
Next, let’s look at a live campaign that’s running right now. Here is an ad that’s running for the
fishing shirt:

If you can see, the total spent was $1,832.62, and the Interests were “fishing boat, fishing reel,
fishing line, fishing lure, or fishing bait”.
But how do you get those “Interests”?
If you go to Facebook ads, and you type in something like “fishing magazine”, or “fishing
tackle”, you’ll find that there are a lot of recommended Interests. For instance, there will be
major general interests like “fishing”. You want to knock-out things like that, as you want to get
specific targeted interests (and once again following our criteria).
For the “behaviors” category, you should enter something really broad (i.e. – “fishing”),
because the Behavior Category changes the search to an “and” statement. So people who were
searching for “fishing equipment” would also be included in generalized “fishing” category,
which targets that many more people.
What this does is it gets you a higher click-through rate and a positive ROI for your ads.
The point is that you can target a really specific interest and get a higher cost-per-click (“fishing
tackle”), versus targeting a broader interest (“fishing”) for a lower cost-per-click.
The best part about running Facebook ads to Teespring campaigns is that once you see the ROI
starting to drop, you can pause the campaign and switch it to something really similar.
Don did this with the “Dirt Sky” shirt campaign:

It was basically the same audience as his failing campaign, except he changed the audience
slightly. As soon as the other campaign’s ROI dropped enough, he paused that campaign and
pointed it at this new design, with the exact same demographics.
It ended up earning $1,298.67, and he only spent $498.85 on the new ad:
All he did was take a photo from Teespring, and added it with a short sales blurb for the ad:

You can actually see this ad live if you go onto Facebook and type in “dirt slingers”. Don doesn’t
use the page to build a bond, meet friends, or anything like that. It’s strictly there to make
money. And you can see from comparing the two designs on the previous page, that they are
very similar and use the same play on words. Except one design has a pony-tail (with the
women), and one doesn’t (men).
You only have to pay attention to how much money you’re putting in versus how much it
returns, the audiences (and if you can scale it further), or if you can put more money into it.
Once you win in one audience, are you able to do it again in a similar campaign, or is it dead?
When you prove an audience is valuable, you can earn thousands of dollars a month, and scale
it out as much as possible.
You can see in just those campaigns provided by Don that this stuff works.
We’ll show you how to set all this up, even if none of it made sense, and how to make a nice
return (every time).
Running these ads are really, really easy. You basically save your image design from Teespring,
write up your ad, and post it on your fanpage:

You then go into your “ads manager”:
Click the green “create ad button” (top right corner), “page post engagement”, and type in your
fanpage, and then “continue”:
And from there you can set your demographics (age 18+, men or women, etc.):

And you can also set the interests:
That’s pretty much all you have to do. You want to test out different interests and behaviors,
and run the ads to see what one gives you the best ROI. And from there, you scale upon that.
All you really have to do is think a lot about your audience. Who would wear this shirt? What
would they be interested in? You don’t necessarily have to target the most popular celebrities,
since dirt-bikers would more often than not be following less popular stars.
In fact, Don recommends to add all the relevant interests, and remove the top 2 most popular
(from brands, celebrities, and interests). The reason why is because people might like the most
popular celebrities because they’ve heard of them. They might have seen them on TV, a video
they liked, or whatever else. That doesn’t mean they are interested in dirt-bikes. Ultimately
things like that will lose you money, and you want to be specific as to target the right audience.
That’s not always the case, but usually it is.
One thing to mention is that by following Don’s criteria, you will end up with an audience of
around 400,000. Of course that will vary depending on your niche, but it’s typically around that
number. What this means for you is that when testing, it usually costs around $50-$100 (per
day) in order to get the best data. Any less than that and you really won’t get enough
information to tell you whether or not it proves to be a decent ROI. That’s PPC in a nutshell.

“Layering” Your Ads
Our next point is what Don calls layering. Basically Facebook gives you a bunch of different
layers. Gender is one, age is another.
It’s what we showed you earlier with one the dirt bike shirts, where one was for men, and
another aimed at women.
The idea is to take a campaign that is successful, and branch it out further:
Try not to focus too much on those things. Instead, you want to just keep in mind all the
different ways in which you can expand a campaign. As you can see there are quite a few,
however, in the next image you can see all the sneaky ways in which you can utilize them:

If you have one successful campaign, you can adjust it slightly to change the gender,
relationship, interests, and so forth.
The above image only applies for married women: “This girl loves her husband and her Pit-bull.”
It has one layer of gender, a layer of interests, and the other layer being relationships.
You can then use the exact same layers for your ad copy. You can then modify those layers
continuously. Love your wife and your Rottweiler (interests)? Love your husband and your
German Shepard?
He spent $980.48, and earned $2,296.61, which equates to a profit of $1,316.13. It’s as simple
as it gets.
You basically add different layers for things you know about your audience, and run a new ad
on those things. Many of the people who purchased never even saw his fanpage, since they
clicked from the sponsored ad. That means your page is almost irrelevant.
It’s all about running an ad, and if that ad proves to be a good return on your investment,
mutating it to expand the audience.

Once Don knew that the design made good ROI, he was able to expand into other similar areas
to make another $1,000 in profit.
This is all within the Facebook terms of service, unlike other methods being taught for
Teespring.
In a nutshell, you simply take one design, and expand on it to other specific audiences in order
to make even more money. The end result is that instead of one campaign that makes $1,000,
you end up with 4 or 5 each making around the same amount.
However, sometimes it doesn’t work every time.
Just because “this girl loves her husband and her Rottweiler” makes money, doesn’t mean that
“this girl loves her husband and her Chihuahua” will make money.
That’s why it’s really important to start off with smaller amounts, and to test a lot of different
layers and ideas before you dump a lot of money into it (no matter how confident you are in a
specific design).
That’s basically sums up the layering concept, and hopefully it gets you thinking further about
your designs and campaigns, and how to expand upon them.

We want to guide you even deeper in the layering idea, so you can get an idea at just how far it
goes.
This next campaign is targeting New Jersey females who love Pit bulls:
Don ran this campaign for just a couple days and spent $783.63. He had 5,646 website clicks.
This ad did generate quite a bit of traffic, and made $1,790.04.
He then went on to create another ad, but instead of New Jersey, he used Michigan:
That ad generated even more clicks at 9,066, but cost around the same amount at $783.25.
However, it still generated $1,422.69 which is a profit of $639.44. The only thing he changed
was the location! You could do the same with your own ads, and you might be surprised at
what sells really well, and what doesn’t.

Before we get into Don Wilson’s membership area, we’ll give you some of Dave’s best tips from
his quarter of a million dollar Teespring business.
Dave was actually #14 best-seller in all of Teespring. That’s a pretty huge accomplishment
seeing as there are tens of thousands of people selling on Teespring.

The first tip is how to research new ideas (and Dave’s “Secret Weapon”). Usually the first
places to go are teescover.com which is owned by Don Wilson himself. It shows all the top
selling t-shirts that are being sold on Teespring, along with the most profitable campaigns.
Also http://teeview.phatograph.com is another popular source for finding the best-selling
campaigns on Teespring. Using these two websites in combination is a really easy way to find
out what is actually selling. This is highly useful information, since you can just basically “copy”
what already works, and drive traffic to it using any number of methods.
One thing you want to realize is that you’ll have a lot of marketers going there, and seeing
those successful campaigns. What it happens is that everyone is creating the same similar shirts
and niches, and it can get saturated really quickly.
Another way to make a lot of money is to come up with your own ideas. Here are some tricks
on how to do that:
Twitter. You have to use it in a specific way. All you do is log into Twitter, and search for things
in double quotes (“ “). For example, “I just bought this shirt”. You then click on ‘photos’ so you
can see the actual shirt.
This gives you a list of shirts that people just bought who are so passionate about it that they
are sharing it with all their friends.
This is an absolute goldmine. Dave has come up with so many ideas from this method that you
would not believe, and it’s so extremely simple.
You can easily model after them and send them off to a designer.

You can really use any search term. “I just purchased this shirt”, “I love this shirt”, “this is the
best shirt ever”. Pretty much anything you can think of that can relate, since every term will
come up with different results.
Another good place to get ideas is called wanelo.com. It’s a brand-new kind of social network
for products. So the whole network is used to promote product, meaning it’s perfect for tshirts.
You just go to wanelo.com, and you’ll see the dropdown at the top which has a link for “most
popular”:

These give you results of the most popular designs that are possible best-sellers. Once you find
a potential and click on it, it tells you how many times people have “saved” the product:
That tells you that there’s a lot of interest in certain items. You can even dig into the comments
and see if people are asking to buy it. If there’s a lot of people wanting or needing it, you can
bet you’ll have a real winner.

What’s even cooler yet is if you just scroll down, you can see other products that people also
saved (similar to Amazon’s “related” products):
That basically gives you a huge list of even more potential winning products without doing any
additional work.
You can also do searches on wanelo. Let’s say you’re in the “nurse” niche, you could type in
something like, “nurse shirt”, and it will display a whole bunch of different ideas for the nurse
niche. You can simply mouse-over and see how many times they were saved (instead of visiting
every one), and pick out the ones that have over 50,000.
You end up with a ton of ideas for shirts which are proven that people want to buy.
What you want to be doing is trying your new ideas all the time to find one that will break out
and make you tons of money. With a combination of using what’s already working, and coming
up with new ideas, is exactly how Dave created his $250,000 business on Teespring.

You can see the top shirts. The first sold 74 in the last 24 hours. You can click on one particular
shirt, which will bring you to the details page. It will show you the number of sales per day, total
amount sold, number of likes, and so forth.
It’s very powerful for spotting new campaigns that are popping up. What Dave found from a lot
of his research is when you are using Teeview or Teescover, you’ll just see the top shirts that
are selling overall since they were listed.
But what you really need to know; the metric that makes all the difference, is how many sales
are people making within the first 24 hours when they release a t-shirt?
This membership area will tell you that information, so you can quickly spot what campaigns

What this will do is show you the number of checkouts. You can actually move the columns
around, so you can move it closer to the demographics. You want to see the age of your target
market along with the number of checkouts they are making.

The actual conversion numbers are not that accurate. Facebook is pretty close, but it’s not
perfect.
It doesn’t matter because that’s not exactly what you’re looking for. What you want to know is
where most of the sales came from.
So what you do is look into the campaign, list it for male and female of all ages. Then go and
take a look at who’s buying:
You can see that females aged 25-34 are mostly buying this shirt. What you can do is pause the
campaign, clone the campaign, and add it for just females aged 25-34. You can increase the ad
budget and focus it only on the people who are buying in the first place.
It opens the campaign a bit, and it usually brings back failing campaigns around 8 out of 10
times.
This is very powerful and it’s awesome because Teespring will give you a bonus if you sell more
than your goal amount.
A lot of the times when you’re breaking even, Teespring will come and pay you so you end up
making more money.
If you use this technique, you can break even, but also a little bit of profit from failing
campaigns.
The moral of the story is to utilize the pixel tracking even though it’s not 100% accurate. It
shows you exactly how’s buying so you can target specifically for them (and not waste any
money).
