The history...
Simon Orrell is a long-established furniture designer who
has created custom-made pieces for interior designers and
private clients since 2001. From a workshop in the heart of
London’s Chelsea Design Quarter, he has worked closely with
artisans locally and globally to create unique furniture and
accessories that draw upon historic techniques and materials
such as shagreen (a natural veneer used in the late 18th
century to cover small decorative items) and parchment (a
staple of antique bookbinding).
Luxury surfaces have become such a speciality, transforming
common household objects into museum-quality pieces, that
this skilled atelier continues to experiment with other unusual
materials; shell, straw marquetry and cracked eggshell to
name a few. There is no compromise on finishing details;
handles, bolts and key mechanisms are of the highest possible
quality and elegant bone stringing often provides contrast to
the exquisitely tactile surface of each piece. No wonder that
this workshop now leads the field in opulent finishes.
