Did you ever wonder why so many marine
professionals insist on Mustang?
In 1967 the now legendary Mustang Floater
Coat set a whole new standard for survival
apparel. Through constant innovation and an
unwavering dedication to excellence, we’ve
continued to set new standards ever since. Our
survival apparel not only remains unsurpassed in
flotation and hypothermia protection, it
also provides superior mobility and durability.
It’s because every stitch that comes out of
Mustang Survival is made as though lives
depend on it. And lives do.
We are focused on saving lives and proudly
make innovative products to keep our
recreational customers and families safe.
We also deliver leading edge protection to the
most demanding clients – the US Navy,
US Air Force, NASA, the Coast Guard, and law
enforcement organizations around the world.
How long a person can survive in cold water
largely depends on both the water’s
temperature and the thermal insulation of the
victim’s protective clothing.
To create the most effective protection
attainable, Mustang begins by evaluating the
clothing’s Immersed Clo values which depict
the level of thermal insulation a garment
provides. Simply speaking, we determine the
rate at which heat is lost from the body, as
well as the difference in temperature between
skin and water. From the Immersed Clo values,
predictions can be made of the rate at
which a person’s body temperature will drop
in cold water.
This graph indicates random samples of
Immersed Clo values and the corresponding
estimation of survival time in calm water
(assuming a thin person with a 5.5˚ F (3˚ C)
drop in core temperature).
To evaluate the protection provided by a
Mustang product, look up its Immersed Clo
value, and use the accompanying chart.

Mustang Survival garments are lined with our innovative
AirSoft™ polyvinylchloride (PVC) closed cell foam. By
trapping air pockets, this foam provides our products
with both buoyancy and insulation. In fact, all Mustang
garments exceed the minimum buoyancy requirements
for Coast Guard approval. This allows for a loss of
buoyancy over time due to compression of the foam.

When fabric is exposed to ultra violet rays, over time it loses its tensile strength and comes
apart. Mustang’s outer shell fabric is made of a 210 Denier, 6,6 high tenacity yarn. Not only
is this material durable, it meets the Canadian Coast Guard 300-hour weathering test and
exceeds US Coast Guard requirements for ultra violet degradation. Therefore, our apparel
can be worn for extended periods in all types of conditions.
So Comfortable You Can Live In It
Though Mustang apparel is designed to save lives, everyday comfort is never compromised.
Each Mustang garment is engineered with our MustMove Mobility System™ to ensure that
the user has full maneuverability. Wrist and waist bands don’t even ride up.
Mustang’s survival apparel carries three key attributes: exceptional hypothermia and
environment protection, and superior flotation performance.

Inflatable PFDs
THE INFLATABLE SAFETY REVOLUTION | Experts agree that reducing mouth immersions
increases your chances of survival in marine rescue situations. The Inflatable Vest with LIFT™ PFD
delivers up to nine inches of freeboard outperforming industry-standard Inflatable PFDs by reducing
mouth immersions by 80% and increasing your chances of survival.

NEW Inflatable Vest with
PFD Patents Pending
™
The Inflatable Vest with LIFT PFD delivers a high level of safety for users in variable wind and wave
conditions by elevating the mouth out of the water by up to nine inches. Known as freeboard, this increase
in elevation has been shown to reduce underwater mouth immersions by 80%, increasing the chance of
survival in accidental immersion situations. A perfect product fit for performance sailors and power boaters,
the Inflatable Vest with LIFT™ PFD is also an excellent choice for individuals who desire added protection.
Mouth Immersions Increase
Risk of Drowning
LIFT™ – The Inflatable
Revolution
Turbulent marine environments and
variable wave conditions make for
hazardous and sometimes
unpredictable boating conditions-the
rougher the water, the higher the risk
of falling overboard. Once in the
water these same conditions increase
your risk of drowning by increasing
the likelihood and number of times
your mouth may be underwater.
Reducing the number of mouth
immersions will increase your
chances of survival.
Based on experience developing
inflatable technology for the US Air
Force and NASA, Mustang Survival
developed the revolutionary LIFT™
[Life-saving Inflatable Flotation
Technology] flotation cell, which can
provide up to 9 inches of distance
between the mouth and the surface
of the water. This distance, called
freeboard, decreases mouth
immersions by elevating the head
and chest up and out of the way of
waves and swells.
LIFT™ Reduces Mouth
Immersions and Increases
Visibility
Tested for the most hazardous and
treacherous wave conditions at
independent UL-approved research
facilities, the LIFT™ PFD delivered up
to 9 inches of freeboard and
outperformed other industry leading
PFDs by dramatically reducing mouth
immersions by 80%. The higher
freeboard also increases your
chances of survival by increasing your
visibility to rescue teams-the higher
your head and chest are out of the
water the easier it is to see you.
Constructed with a highly durable wind and waterproof fabric, the vest is a lightweight product designed
with a shorter length and a low and flexible profile ensuring users maximum mobility during even the most
rigorous activities. A removable sailing harness is available for purchase separately.

Re-Arm Kits
Bobbins
Re-Arm kits are easy to use and include replacement CO2 cylinders, bobbins and green inflator
pins. The automatic inflator bobbin on all automatic PFDs should be replaced on a regular
basis. Regular maintenance can reduce the possibility of premature inflation. Refer to your
Owner’s Manual for maintenance schedule.
Bobbins are a relacement part for all
automatic inflators. They dissolve
when immersed in water and
cause the CO2 cylinder to inflate
the PFD. All Mustang automatic
inflatable PFDs come with cylinders
and bobbins. For recreational use,
bobbins should be replaced every
three years to avoid inadvertent inflation.

I’ve used up a lot of foul weather gear in the nearly thirty
years that I’ve been sailing, but nothing has done the job
for me like the Mustang gear I use. I salute Mustang’s
ability to design and manufacture foul weather gear
that’s made for sailors, not for fashion models.

“We were proceeding back to the lodge in the dark
when we struck a rock. The force of the collision
catapulted my friend into the ocean. Some period
of time elapsed before we heard a faint response.
I cannot express the elation I felt when, in the
darkness, I saw the yellow glow of a Mustang suit.
My friend was cold, but his suit had saved him
from drowning and hypothermia.”

Immersed Clo Values
And What They Mean To You
Keeping The Heat In Cold Water
Immersed Clo values depict the thermal insulation value a garment
provides through the rate at which heat is lost from the body, as well as
the difference in temperature between skin and water. Once these values
have been determined, predictions can be made regarding the rate at
which a person’s body temperature will drop in cold water. Simply
speaking, these values can mean the difference between life and death.
See the graph for samples of Mustang Survival products, their
Immersed Clo values and the corresponding estimation of survival time
in calm water (assuming a thin person with 5.5° F (3° C) drop in
core temperature).
Ocean Commander® exceeds the Coast Guard minimum requirement
(.75 Clo) for immersion suits by 28%.

Surviving in oceans, lakes or rivers depends on the water’s temperature
and your insulating protection. Effective protective clothing like the
Ocean Commander® and Ice Commander™ minimize heat loss through
the water. Hood, face seal and watertight zippers prevent water from
intruding. Seams are welded, not glued, thereby maximizing their
waterproof qualities. Liners are constructed of AirSoft™ closed-cell foam
that traps air and helps reduce heat loss. Both of these suits are
meticulously designed to give you maximum survival time.
Mustang‘s one-piece anti-exposure coveralls and worksuits are ideal for
constant wear protection. These garments have inherent foam liners
that provide remarkable flotation and thermal insulation. Some models
have neoprene wrist closures for even greater sealing power.
For mariners and officers who prefer a two-piece suit, and don’t want
to compromise on protection, Mustang’s ThermoSystem Coat is the ideal
choice. Its neoprene wrist closures prevent cold water from entering.
The beavertail can be used to provide hypothermia protection and
maintain core body temperature. The insulated hood is ergonomically
designed to trap warmth and prevent water from leaking down the
back of your neck.
All of these Mustang products are designed to keep you alive and well
so that you can live through some of nature’s most gruelling challenges.

Maintenance and Warranty
Care and Maintenance
Mustang Survival products are made from high-tech
materials to provide comfort, durability and
protection. To ensure maximum performance, however,
they must be maintained, cleaned and inspected on a
regular basis. The procedures outlined below are a
simple way to ensure consistent performance.
Proper Drying
Unless your Mustang product is properly dried, you
will encounter dampness and mildew. Mildew is NOT
covered by Mustang’s warranty. To avoid mildew,
hang-dry after each use in a well ventilated area away
from direct sunlight. Do not stow the product while
drying.
Sunlight
To avoid premature aging of the nylon shell and
stitching, Mustang products should not be hung in
direct sunlight for an extended period of time.
10 Compact Storage Case
Storage volume has been reduced by
about 17% compared to a
conventional neoprene suit.
Inspection
Before each use, inspect the following on your
Mustang product:
11 Non-slip Soles
Durable rubber soles provide traction
on wet surfaces.
2. Shoulder and sleeve areas for separation or
slippage of foam interliners.
1. Seams for separating, tearing or fraying.
3. Zippers for ease of movement and overall
condition.

4. Snaps, buckles and Tug-Tites® are in good working
order.
5. Inflatables: Check accompanying Owner’s Manual
for proper directions.
Testing
Test your Mustang at the start of each season.
Wear it in the water to ensure it has adequate
buoyancy. Products that are not in proper
condition must be replaced.
Washing Instructions
Mustang products should be hand-washed using a
mild soap or detergent. Rinse thoroughly in clean
water. Hang-dry in a well ventilated area and out of
direct sunlight. Do not dry clean or tumble dry.
Limited Warranty
Mustang Survival products are warranted to be free
from defects in materials and workmanship for a
period of one year from the date of purchase by the
initial purchaser (the Customer End user) under
normal and intended conditions and use. Proof of
purchase may be required at the discretion of
Mustang Survival. Products, which, in the sole
judgment of Mustang Survival, have received
excessive or abusive use or have been altered in any
way by a dealer, the Customer or any other person,
will not be covered by this limited warranty. Mustang
Survival requires return of the product (postage or
delivery costs prepaid by Customer) for inspection
before determining whether the product will be
covered under limited warranty. A return
authorization is required before the goods are
returned and should be obtained by contacting our
Customer Service Department. Once returned,
Customer Service, Quality Assurance and Sales
Departments inspect the product as required. It is
then determined whether the product will be covered
under this limited warranty. If the product is deemed
to be covered under our warranty policy, it will either
be repaired or replaced at the sole discretion of
Mustang Survival at no charge to the Customer. The
only obligation or liability of Mustang Survival under
this limited warranty is to repair or replace the
product and Mustang Survival shall not, under any
circumstances be liable for loss of use or any
consequential damages sustained by the Customer.
All other warranties expressed or implied, and
remedies with respect to the condition or use of the
product, which might otherwise be provided by law in
any jurisdiction, are specifically excluded.
