We are happy to welcome you to the 23rd International Symposium on Theoretical Aspects
of Computer Science (STACS 2006) in Marseille.
This handbook is designated to provide you with some useful information for your stay
in Marseille during STACS 2006.
This guide contains:
• indications for going to the conference location;
• a map of the hotels location;
• a quick selection of restaurants in downtown Marseille (near hotels);
1 Conference location
The conference will take place at the (Centre de Mathématiques et Informatique) which is
located north of Marseille. The address is :

From downtown Marseille, it is easy to go to the CMI using public transportation (subway).
1.1 How to go to the CMI from downtown Marseille
The easiest way to go to the CMI is to take subway line 1 (the blue one on the subway plan) .
Take this subway line 1 with the direction “La Rose : Technôpole de Château-Gombert”
until the last stop (terminus).
At the “La Rose” subway station, take the bus number 1 ( “Navette Technopôle”) until
the stop “Keynes” (pictures of bus stops on page 5). For bus number 1, there is a departure
every 15 minutes and it takes about 5 minutes to go from the “La Rose” subway station to
the “Keynes” stop.
The CMI building is located just behind the “Hotel technologique” and will be indicated.
To go back to the “La Rose” subway station, you can take the bus line 1 at the same bus
stop called “Keynes” (the bus goes back to the subway station).
At the bus stop, the right schedule is the green one.
It takes about 30 minutes to go from downtown Marseille to the “Keynes” bus stop.
1.2 Taking the subway at the St-Charles main train station
Go two levels down (the subway is indicated by a symbol ’M’ for Métro).

1.3 Going from the airport to the St-Charles main train station
There is a bus that goes from the airport to the St Charles main train station located in the
center of town. Travel time is about 30 minutes and there is a bus every 20 minutes.
Taking a taxi from the airport to go to St-Charles or the CMI will take between 30 and 45
minutes.
1.4 Transport tickets
We will provide you with subway-bus tickets called “Solo tickets”. These tickets can be used
both for bus and subway lines. They are valid for one hour after the initial validation. For
example, to come to the CMI, you can validate a ticket at any subway station and use the
same ticket afterwards to take the bus.

2.1 Taking the subway from the hotel
All hotels are located near the line 1 of the subway system.
Just be aware that the “Noailles” subway station is on subway line 2 (not on line 1 !). You can
either walk to another subway station or take direction “Bougainville” and change at the next stop
“St-Charles”.
