Five Strongest Camp Counselor Skills:
(attach additional pages if necessary. Please indicate your full name on attachments)
Singing: I always sing, I really enjoy singing, not only because I have a beautiful voice ... But also
because singing makes us all happy. When I was a child, at school, we used to sing in a chorale in
French but also in English where I was able to develop my singing skills. I remember when I
discovered the beatles' song 'Let it be'. Since then, I always sing in both French and English. I feel
ready to teach this skill rather well.
Computer Programming: Student in Computer Science, this is a new skill of mine, I have started this
difficult subject at school. I like to solve problems that are given to me. I have never really used
another High-level language than Visual basic to write my programmes. Computer Programming
could quite fun when we try to make little games such as we can find in casinos… Children would
enjoy this kind of activities.
Group Games: I usually organize group games when I work at camps. I think that children should
not spend all their time playing video games. Indeed, they also should to play outside with other
children like our parents used to! I have a counselor certificate (BAFA), so I'm able to make many
many games like :
- Auction sale : Children have to find a treasure by buying what one sells…
- Police and Thief : We make 2 different teams, the thief must escape, police have to prevent them
from escaping.
------>In fact, I like it because even I participate in this game, and when a child catches me, he's
proud of himself. Isn't it a good moral value for our children?
Martial Arts: I have praticed both Capoeira (a kind of Bresilian Dance) and American Boxing. I feel
rather able to teach these two fighting sports and especially Capoeira. Indeed, Capoeira has a story
that will interrests children. In capoeira, you can find : Music and songs, dance, fighting with all
positive values around : respect of your adversary for example. I have learned American Boxing in a
club not far from home and Capoeira with a friend who is Capoeira teacher in a club as well.
French: I think that I should try to exchange my culture with French songs, French words and
maybe our gastronomy, sketchs (Acting). I am currently teaching French to an Australian I have
met on a chat so, I am accustomed to teaching this skill. A lot of games could help children to
improve their pronounciation or simply remember a word because we learn more while having fun!

If No, please explain why and include a reference from your former U.S. camp director.
Please describe your previous camp experience?
I am currently working in a day camp for an association called 'MCL'. Every Wednesday, there is a
man who teaches Circus to children. I have to help children to improve their skills and train with
them to prepare a spectacle at the end of the camp or for Halloween. I have also worked in a Camp
for a whole month in Normandie (France) in Saint-Remy des Landes. I was in charge of 10-14
years old children. (There were many activities such as Blow-kart, rollerskating,..)
Please describe your experience working directly with Children:
The first time I was in charge of a group of a dozen 6-8 years-old children, I was scared. Because
not knowing them, they were always testing me. But they finally trusted me and I was close to
them. The thing that I will never forget is the day I taught a child how to tie his shoes. He has
never thanked me but a simple smile makes me understand how he was happy and so was I. I like
to make children happy, help them to grow up. Sometimes I receive a postcard from some children
I've worked with. When I can read : 'Mourad it was great ! I hope we will meet again in another
camp!', I know that they will never forget and me too.
Why have you decided to work at a camp during summer 2006?
I have decided to work at a camp in USA this summer because I would like to share my culture
with the other, work with children and I would also like to improve my English. I also want to learn
more about American people, their way of life. I think that it could be the greatest experience in
my life !
How will you share your culture at camp?
I think that I will share my language by singing in French (Funny songs). By telling them where
France is, what is the capital of France what we can find there... Perhaps by cooking or by games
of course !
