BROADWAY: BROOKLYN
A girl from Europe moves to New York to study at NYU and settles down in Brooklyn. One
night, a young man is killed across the street from her apartment building and the girl needs to
know why. Murder is a part of everyday life in the ghetto and the local Latinos think she is
weird. But a man tells her that the murder must be related to gangs and drugs. At the police
station, she is asked to leave when she mentions the murder.
On Broadway in Brooklyn she meets Alex, who started out as a gang member in the seventies.
He tells her about their codes and rituals. He feels that the gangs where different in his time
and had more respect for each other. Today, they kill without a reason. He regrets his past and
wishes he had become a police officer instead.
She keeps searching for information on the murder and meets a homeless man. The man
knows law, but was never paid for a job defending a guy in prison, sentenced for murder. So
he had to move to the street. A few days later the police arrest him. She tries to help him, but
it is a lost cause.
She never finds a rational reason for the murder, and that is the point of the film: That, more
often than not, there is none.
