How fitting to be holding the Touch World Cup 2015 here in Australia!
The journey from humble beginnings of our game can be compared to the growth
of this beautiful country: from the rich Aboriginal culture, to the immigrants who
arrived and brought with them their differences. Such is the journey that our game
has taken. From Oceania, to Asia, to Africa and Europe, all together sharing in the
sport that we all love and exchanging cultures.
My heartfelt thanks to Colm Maguire and Touch Football Australia for hosting the
event with such professionalism. To the FIT Board members, namely Bill and Gwynne
Kerr, your contribution goes beyond your role as volunteers.
To the community of Coffs Harbour, thank you for allowing us to be caretakers of
your amazing facilities for this week.
And finally to all players, coaches, managers, referees, medical staff, volunteers
and tour managers; It is my honour and privilege to welcome you all to the 2015 FIT
Touch World Cup and trust that you will participate in the spirit of our sport.
In the words of the great Michael Jordan remember ‘Talent wins games, but
teamwork and intelligence wins championships’.
I also read somewhere an anonymous source said ‘If at first you don’t succeed, try
doing what your Coach told you to do the first time’.
Thank you and good luck to all!
ERICK ACKER
PRESIDENT
FEDERATION OF INTERNATIONAL TOUCH
TWC MAGAZINE 1
On behalf of Touch Football Australia and the extended Touch Football community of Australia we
would like to welcome the world to Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. It was some time ago now that the organisation extended its desire to host such an iconic event and it
is one that will go down in history for so many reasons. It is 30 years ago that the Federation took its
first steps on Australian soil with its formation and this week we will celebrate the biggest World Cup
ever. With over 100 teams signalling intent to play here we have been able to achieve an outstanding 90
teams for the pinnacle of the international calendar. It is with great pride that this has been achieved and
we congratulate the nations of the world for the effort they have put in not only to be here but in their
development domestically since 1985.
Time has certainly flown by and it is staggering to look at what has been created since 1985. It only
seems like yesterday that we were all in Edinburgh for the 2011 World Cup which was the first marker of
the real growth that has occurred in our game in recent times. We have worked hard to capitalise on the
amazing work of the previous event and it is with great pleasure that we have achieved this growth.
We wish the Federation Executive all the best for the event and acknowledge the tireless work in global
development. We appreciate all the support over the last four years and certainly hope to fulfil all of our
obligations and provide a fantastic event to showcase the sport of Touch. We also take this opportunity
to wish Malaysia all the best for the 2019 World Cup and we offer our ongoing support in what will be a
massive boost for the sport in Asia.
On behalf of the Federation, I would like to thank the commercial partners of the World Cup for their
support and contribution. We encourage all nations to support these great partners who are investing in
our game.
I also wish all of the support staff and volunteers assisting the nations on their journey the very best. In
particular, I thank the referee contingent for the work they will undertake this week but, moreover, thank
them for the role they play in our game domestically and year-on-year at every event; 120 referees –
importantly from all over the world - will cast their eye over some of the most incredible games of Touch
you will ever see.
We are certain all contingents will enjoy the experience of Coffs Harbour and in particular C.Ex Coffs
International Stadium which is a wonderful facility. Having watched the social media channels with some
interest it is clear that many nations arrive with goals and aspirations having prepared in the best possible
way. We wish all nations well in these endeavours and above all look forward to the relationships and
friendships often established when our extended family comes together.
Finally, to the work of the Touch Football Australia staff and continued support of the Board, I thank each
and every one of you for your tireless effort. I am sure you will show the world how much pride you take
in presenting such events for our participants.
We sincerely hope you have the ‘Thrill of a Lifetime’ at the 2015 World Cup!

2015 TWC:
The wait is over and countdown clock now finally stopped.
The date with destiny for international teams and their
quadrennial quest for the holy grail of International Touch
Football, now finally upon us.
2015 FIT Touch World Cup along with the world’s best players
have all touched down at Coffs Harbour, the spiritual home of
Australia’s elite Touch Football events; the stage and players
set to ignite C.ex Coffs International Stadium over five fabulous
Autumn days. A record 90 teams across nine divisions from 25
nations will take part in the eighth edition of the event, and the
third time on Australian soil; the last instalment in Sydney, 1999.
Six member nations will make their debut in the World Cup
format including Chile, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Phillipines
and the United Arab Emirates. Chile and the UAE will mark
significant milestones for the sport from a regional perspective:
the first time countries from South America and the Middle East
will participate in a Touch World Cup respectively. Malaysia’s
participation, ahead of hosting the 2019 World Cup, is also
a reflection of just how global the sport of Touch Football is
becoming. That brings to five the representation from each
continent making this a truly global event and reflection of the
sport’s phenomenal international growth and footprint.
The 2015 instalment is confirmed as the biggest Touch World
Cup on record, signifying the enormous growth the sport has
enjoyed in recent years but importantly over an enduring period
of time.

HISTORY
Australia have had an incredibly successful record at the seven
previous Touch World Cups. With over 436 matches played
Australia has won a record and staggering 400 games, with only
27 losses and nine draws. The Men’s and Women’s team have
won the overall title seven times, with the Mixed team recording
five overall titles. In an incredible unbeaten streak the Women’s
team has gone through every World Cup undefeated, with a draw
the only blemish on their record. Australia’s momentum going
into the Touch World Cup is very strong following a clean sweep
victory over New Zealand at last year’s Trans Tasman series.

2015 TOUCH WORLD CUP
FINALS TO FEATURE ON
CHANNEL NINE!
Delayed free-to-air coverage of the Touch World Cup
finals through May - taking Touch Football to a whole
new level and audience.
The ever popular staple of Sunday NRL in front of the television is set
to take on a new dimension with a unique extended format of Sunday
afternoon NRL coverage on Channel Nine, from 17 May, 2015. Not only
will NRL fans and broader audience get their usual fix of Rugby League
action with Sunday NRL Live on Channel Nine, but with an exciting
entrée leading into the regular afternoon broadcast over consecutive
Sundays (31 May, 7 and 14 June).
The 2015 Touch World Cup Finals featuring the best touch football
talent on the planet across the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed (Open’s)
divisions is set to light up Channel’s Nine’s Sunday NRL telecast over
coming weeks with an hour-long highlights package of each divisions’
finals matches leading into the regular Sunday NRL 4.00pm (AEST)
timeslot. The three x one
hour Touch World Cup finals
will be broadcast into over
50 countries across Asia
Pacific and Europe via Fox
International, Star TV and
Eurosport, following the free
to air broadcast on Nine. Australia are looking to
continue their domination
in the quadrennial Touch
World Cup with a record eight
successive Touch World Cup
titles up for grabs in coming
weeks. The Touch World Cup
series commenced on the Gold
Coast back in 1988 and has
been showcased across the
globe in New Zealand (1991),
Hawaii (US - 1995), Sydney
(1999), Japan (2003), South Africa (2007) and Scotland (2011), in
ensuing years before returning to these shores. Australia has enjoyed
enduring success over the 27-year period with New Zealand, Australia’s
main rival across most divisions.
Host Nation and Touch Football Australia CEO, Colm Maguire, said the
news and the overall opportunity was very exciting and timely.
Host nation and Touch Football Australia CEO Colm Maguire said the
news of Channel Nine’s broadcast and the overall opportunity was very
exciting and timely.
“This is such a fantastic outcome for the sport of Touch Football and
it is a real breakthrough to have our pinnacle international event
showcased in this way,” he said.
“This highlights the benefit of our alignment with the NRL but the
success of our overall broadcast commitment over our current
strategic cycle which includes numerous televised events.
“This also positions the sport even more strongly, not only through our
partnership with the NRL but as an immensely popular participation
sport played at the elite level, beamed out to a much wider domestic
and international television audience.
“We look forward to seeing our athletes on such a stage and wish them
well for the event.
“One of the advantages of the free-to-air broadcast is the fact that
close to 50% of the television coverage
will feature our female participants.
“And that is pivotal to our participation
and performance environment and
strategic focus with the NRL.”
NRL CEO Dave Smith welcomed
Channel Nine’s support in showcasing
International Touch Football.
“It is fantastic that fans will be able to
enjoy the international game as part
of Channel Nine’s Sunday football
broadcast,” he said.
“Through our strategic alliance with
TFA we are committed to growing
the profile of the game and Sunday
afternoon time slot on Channel Nine
presents the ideal opportunity to do so.
“The NRL Touch Football partnership provides both sports with
opportunities to work together and grow our participation numbers as
we look to create Australia’s largest sporting community.
“I look forward to a fantastic few days of competition in Coffs Harbour
and wish the Australian team the best of luck in their quest for eight
World Cup titles.”
The NSW Government, through Destination NSW, is proud to partner
with Touch Football Australia to secure major Touch Football events
in NSW. This event is part of the NSW Government’s support for Touch
Football, which follows also the Youth Trans-Tasman event at Cronulla
and the National Touch League in Coffs Harbour earlier this year.

AUSTRALIA
If the form of Australian teams from the most recent
successful Trans Tasman, State teams from the Origin
series in 2014 and regional teams from last month’s
National Touch League and Elite Eight series provides
anything of a pointer, it is that Host Nation, Australia is
primed and their tilt at extending the unbroken 23-year
World Cup streak, well timed.
Beyond the playing field, Australia’s preparation for its first
home World Cup in 16 years has been strong; with the nine
Australian teams featuring very strong line-ups and looking
forward to unfurling the Aussie welcome mat to the world in
Coffs Harbour.
The National Touch League was played in early March, with
the majority of Australia’s Touch World Cup representatives’
fine tuning their quest for World Cup honours and
familiarity with the home venue of the 2015 TWC, C.ex Coffs
All nine teams have been training hard in the lead-up to the
event, with several training camps already this year in the
lead up to the event. With home ground advantage and a
passionate crowd expect Australia’s teams to be playing their
best Touch Football come game day.
The weight of history will always be there. The wait to build
on previous successes, now finally over.
Touch Football Australia High Performance Manager,
Wayne Grant said the teams can’t wait for the opportunity to
compete on home soil.
“It’s all getting very close now and the anticipation and
excitement among the contingent was very clear at the final
training camp. All teams are obviously very focussed on doing
well here in front of family and friends on home soil. For
some, this will be the first time playing for their country at
home and for others it may be their last but the fact that it is
at home, adds that special element.
“The final training camp (in early April) was a perfect ending
to our preparation with all teams showing they mean business
with some fiercely contested trial games. Everyone is now at
that stage that they just want the event to start now which is
a good thing. We all cannot wait to show how hard we have
worked for this and all that remains is to put everything out
on the field,” Grant said.

The 2015 Touch World Cup marks the first time that Chile
will be represented at a World Cup. And, in doing so,
becomes the first team from South America to compete in a
World Cup.
Antonia Livingstone
Chile has had a few international competition experiences
in recent years, with a Mixed team competing in the USA
Nationals as practice for the 2015 World Cup. The South
Americans might well surprise with a young, fit and fast outfit
determined to do well on their debut on the world stage.

The China Mixed Open team is the first team from China
to compete in a Touch World Cup. To add to this milestone
and experience, the majority of the team have never been
overseas before nor had passports before.
Minhui Ling
The team is composed of current students or graduates from
South China Agricultural University where Rugby and Touch
have emerged as sports of choice with the support of a few
ex-pat Aussies and Kiwis who introduced the sports to the
Middle Kingdom more than 10 years ago. Shang Wu
It is hoped that through the China Mixed Open team’s
participation in the World Cup, the sport will grow strongly
and prosper in the future.

One of the largest international contingents and real improvers on
the world stage in recent years, the England Touch Association (ETA)
will bring seven teams to the 2015 World Cup. Coming off the back
of strong performances at the 2014 European Championships at
Swansea, Wales where England won gold medals in the Men’s and
Women’s Open divisions, as well as Men’s 30’s and Women’s 27’s.
ENGLAND
“There has been strong growth in the number of people playing Touch in
England and our focus is very much on increasing this over forthcoming
years at all levels as we look to support and develop all aspects of the
game in our country; with a particular emphasis on youth participation
and development to provide a strong base for the future,” Tour Leader
Denise Yarrow said.
“We are extremely proud of all of our players and referees selected to
represent our country in this year’s Touch World Cup and wish them all
the best of luck in the competition.
“We would also like to thank all those who have worked in a voluntary
capacity for and with the ETA over this campaign.

The French teams are looking forward to arriving in a much warmer climate
in Australia, having spent recent training sessions in the snow and fog in the
lead up to the World Cup!
Like most European nations, preparations have been difficult in the cold winter
weekends. At times teams have had to sweep the snow off the pitch before the
training or it’s been so foggy that seeing teammates has been a real problem.
The French teams left Paris on 20 April en route to Runaway Bay on the Gold
Coast to finish off preparations in advance of the event.
FRANCE
Touch France would like to acknowledge the help of Gwynne Kerr, John Singh,
Peter Walters and Peter Topp for all their assistance with preparations for the
2015 Touch World Cup.

The Touch Deutschland Mixed Open team
at the 2015 Touch World Cup will see a
good mixture of youth and experience.
GERMANY
While a strong team overall, the female
side of the Touch Deutschland Mixed Open
team, spearheaded by captain Yvonne
Giesen, comprises once again, it has been
widely said, the best female Touch players in
mainland Europe. The team is also pleased
to welcome into the team and their World
Cup campaign, some exceptional rookie
talent with Joerg Schlossmacher and Pascal
Frech making their debuts. The preparations for the World Cup have
been assisted greatly by external coaching
help from England with Marni Walls and her
future husband Doug assisting in many ways
for whom the team is very grateful to.
Touch Deutschland is also proud to
welcome back Corey Baker into the team
who following an assignment in Sydney
to (allegedly) survey close rivals, the
Australians, rejoins the team again.

IRELAND
November 2013 marked the start of Ireland’s quest
to have a Men’s 50’s team for the Touch World Cup
in 2015. To Ireland’s delight it managed to identify
‘young at heart’ Touch players from countries in
Europe, Asia and Oceania who were also up for it.
‘Game On’ is the catch-cry from the strong two-team
Emerald Isle contingent with now a Men’s Open and
Men’s 50’s team set for a bold showing down under.
The training began almost immediately (at this age it
takes much longer to warm up and also teach old dogs
new tricks). Through the efforts of a very energetic
Secret Committee (Rory, Frank and Paul – surnames
suppressed to protect the innocent), Ireland are indeed
an organised team of ‘finely tuned athletes’ just days
away from our first match.

The core of the Men’s 50’s comes from the
Ireland Men’s 40’s team which won the European
Championship in 2010, who were clearly punching
above their age. Importantly it has been infiltrated by a
number of ‘young bloods’, including a couple of former
‘Tag’ players and also Australian-based Irish players.
The team is looking forward to adding to the 2014
European title when they get set to take on the best in
the world.
Obviously the team of veterans is not necessarily ‘the
future’ of Ireland Touch but can hopefully inspire the
Men’s Open team and they wish them, and their referee
representatives, the best of luck at the tournament.
As George Bernard Shaw once said: ‘we don’t stop
playing because we grow old – we grow old because we
stop playing’. The team doesn’t plan on growing old just
yet and the plans for the retention of the above title at
the 2019 Touch World Cup in Kuala Lumpur will start
the moment this World Cup ends!
To be sure.

TWC2015 is a landmark tournament for
Touch Nederland, who are super excited to
be bringing two teams to an international
tournament for the first time with teams in the
Mixed Open and the Senior Mixed. Touch is
such a small sport in the Netherlands – there
is a player pool of about 90 people, of whom
probably 60 play Touch on a regular basis.
Compared to the size and scope of the game in
Australia and New Zealand it’s inspiring!
Russell Blankenbyl
The Touch Nederlands teams have been training
since the European Championships last August,
where they finished sixth, its best international
mixed performance yet. With two Mixed teams
going to the World Cup Touch Nederlands have
been able to bring in new players for whom
the TWC will be a first taste of international
competition. It’s a great opportunity for a small
nation to inspire and develop new players.

After the exhilaration of winning the Senior Mixed
and Men’s 40’s divisions at the 2011 World Cup in
Scotland, this was backed up by winning the Masters
Trans Tasman Series in New Zealand in 2013 on
the path to the World Cup. On the other hand, the
disappointment of under achieving in the elite
grades in Scotland forced Touch New Zealand to
re-examine and re-build the elite program. This led
to the first ever series win by the Touch Blacks over
Australia when they won the Open Trans Tasman
Series in New Zealand in 2013. Sean Law

A steady progression of new players into the Touch
Blacks has developed three dynamic teams that are
all expected to do well in Coffs Harbour at the 2015
Touch World Cup. With less focus on themselves,
rather than what the other competing nations are
likely to bring to the tournament, along with strong
self belief based upon recent success and a strong
program approach, the Touch Blacks are ready to do
all they can to win the Touch World Cup in 2015.

Fakalofa lahi atu all!
Niue is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, 2,400 kilometres northeast of New
Zealand within the triangle formed by Tonga to the west, Samoa to the north, and the
Cook Islands to the east. Niue Touch has over 200 registered members and is continuing
to develop the game of Touch for the Niue people. Niue is a small country with a wide
player base, so trying to coordinate teams continues to be a struggle. However, the
rewards by far outweigh the challenges and Niue Touch is excited to take part in this
international event.
NIUE
Niue Touch is sending four teams to the 2015 World Cup - Mixed Open, Senior Mixed,
Men’s 40’s and Men’s 50’s. Its goals are to showcase the pride and passion of its beloved
Niue, also affectionately known as ‘The Rock’ Of Polynesia on the Touch fields. This is
Niue’s sixth Touch World Cup campaign and the teams are grateful for the support the
Niue Touch contingent and families have contributed to make this happen. Fakaaue Lahi.

The Philippines Mixed Open team is excited and
ready for the Touch Football World Cup!
The team comprises of players from interstate
Australia, Europe and of course, the Philippines.
Despite the long distances from each other,
the players brought together for the World Cup
comprises a team of skill, strength and quality.
The recent training camp in Brisbane was a
great experience for all involved with a guest
appearance from Karley Banks providing the
technical edge the team needed in the lead up
to the tournament. In addition, a hit-out with the
Redlands Crushers proved to be very beneficial,
implementing the new skills against the likes of
Queensland Touch representatives and NTL Elite
Eight players.
Across the seas and into mainland Philippines,
the Filipino Women have been training very
hard with preparation tournaments in Manila
and parts of Asia to keep them in competition
mode and ready for the big games ahead
in Coffs Harbour. The most exciting part of
this campaign, is having the pleasure to play
alongside fellow Philippines Nationals’, and as
a group providing a Touch Football experience
that will never be forgotten. The teams are very
proud to be representing the Phillipines at this
year’s World Cup, as well as for their families
and each other. The teams can’t wait to be able
to showcase the talents that its National Mixed
team has to offer, and putting the Philippines on
the Touch Football map.

Our resident and very well-travelled mascot “Scooperoo”
(affectionately known as Roo) has won many hearts and
captured the spirit of the event all over the globe in the lead
up to the 2015 Touch World Cup, with several teams and other
interesting identities embracing the concept and marvelling at
our marsupial mascot’s long road to ‘Oz’.
Roo started popping up across the world in early March and
it didn’t take long for teams to embrace their new friend, who
was an instant hit.
You can tell Roo has had the best time in its travels and
travails, making itself known and at home popping up in many
exotic and exciting locations across the world.
These include and are not limited to Times Square, the White
House, plenty of team training camps as well as even a Dutch
wedding!
Take a look at
some of the
points of the
