The story of boiled wool
„Boiled wool“ is the material, around which turns the over 50-year old history of the company Giesswein. The wool-material and its positive characteristics were well-known to our
ancestors already thousands of years ago. The material protects against wind, cold weather
and moisture, as boiled wool has a natural temperature equalizing effect (thus warming and
refreshing), is water-repellent and air-permeable. In special washing machines, the knitted
wool is fulled at temperatures around 30 to 40 degrees Celcius. Under the influence of pure
water and heat, the woolen fibers jam and form boiled wool.
Ecological awareness and forward-looking technologies create the certainty to know you are
wearing a product of nature made by Giesswein.
The difference between boiled wool, loden and felt:
-
Boiled wool is made by fulling knitted fabrics
-
Loden is made by fulling woven fabrics
-
Felt is produced by needling mixed fabrics or fleece in a certain manner,
often using materials of lower quality
Boiled wool at a glance:
- high wearing comfort through elastic materials
- durability
- breathable
- form stability
- pearling effect
- good protection from weather due to high heat retention
- up to 60 % water absorption without feeling damp
