Livengrin’s 48th
Anniversary Celebration
This fall, Livengrin celebrated its 48th year of service to those with addiction,
their families and the communities of the greater Philadelphia area with a
special event. We had a delicious and elegant dinner and Q&A session with
Special Guest of Honor, former US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.
The event, benefitting Livengrin’s First Responders Addiction Treatment
(FRAT) program, raised nearly $75,000 for patient scholarships and
programs. The Livengrin Short Film was also previewed – a powerful piece
which illustrates the challenges and hope of the battle against addiction.
The Anniversary Celebration, held at the Northampton Valley Country
Club in Richboro, drew support from First Responder unions, individual
donors, public officials, Livengrin alumni, friends, employees, and Board
members, and local and national businesses.
The Anniversary Celebration attracted over 120 donors and supportive
public officials including Bensalem Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo; State
Senator Tommy Tomlinson; State Representative Gene DiGirolamo;
State Representative Steve Santarsiero; State Representative Tina
Davis; Northampton Township Supervisor Dr. Kimberly Rose; Robin
Wiessmann, former State Treasurer; and Marcel Groen, Chairman of
the Montgomery County Democratic Party to celebrate the invaluable
service of Livengrin Foundation.

Special thanks to Livengrin Board Member Pam Janvey for supporting
this event and encouraging so many others to do the same. Also, we thank
Pam for encouraging so many to engage with the ongoing fight to bring
recovery to those who need it.
The Livengrin Short Film
The Livengrin Short Film was produced by documentary film maker Flavia
Colgan and edited by Darkslide Media. Colgan is a television analyst for
MSNBC, CNN, and FOX News. The “stars” of the film were Livengrin
alumni Ryan Roth and Kathleen Murray; Livengrin Board Members Ron
Davis, Steve (and Denise) Leckerman representing the Leigh Leckerman
Scholarship Fund, Bruce (and Ginny) Murray representing AMICare, and
Board Chairman Michael Chapman.
Livengrin Board member Steve Leckerman,
Livengrin Supporter Kelly O’Brien, Gary Rubin of
PCA and Livengrin Residential Manager Amanda
Hilzer and husband Evan watching the Livengrin
Short Film
Interviews also included the FRAT Program’s Jim Nestor and Andy
Callaghan, Livengrin Medical Director Mark Wallen, and CEO Rick Pine.
The production was brought to you by the Livengrin Office of Development.
Currently the short film is being entered in various film festivals.

Supports Livengrin
75th United
States Secretary
of the Treasury
As the 75th Secretary of the US Treasury,
Timothy Geithner played a central role in
formulating U.S. domestic and international
economic policy during President Barack
Obama’s first term. He was a principal
architect of the president’s successful strategy
to avert economic collapse and to reform the
financial system, while also tackling a broad
set of international economic challenges.
Mr. Geithner was one of Time Magazine’s
Most Influential People, and Forbes and
GQ Magazines’ Most Powerful People in the
World.
Between 2003 and 2009, Mr. Geithner served
as President and Chief Executive Officer
of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
He first joined the Treasury Department in
1988 and held a number of positions in three
administrations, including Undersecretary
for International Affairs under Secretaries
Robert Rubin and Lawrence Summers.
Mr. Geithner is currently President of
Warburg Pincus and the author of STRESS
TEST: Reflections on Financial Crises.
Livengrin was honored to have Secretary
Geithner as the special guest at our 48th
Anniversary Celebration benefitting the First
Responders Addiction Treatment (FRAT)
program. Mr. Geithner and Andy Callaghan,
FRAT Program Director, held a special Q&A
at the event which covered topics ranging
from First Responders to football.
Livengrin deeply appreciates Mr. Geithner’s
time and support for this event.

The Bridge Builder
Josephine Sebben, the Story of a Livengrin Donor
Giving back is a family value for
Josephine Sebben of the Hansell
Founders Council – whose
members give over $10,000
annually to support Livengrin’s
patients. Josephine was raised
in a family that consistently
reached out to communities
in need. Josephine’s Dad, J.
Don Miller, Administrator of
Chestnut Hill Hospital from
1948 to 1977 was a Livengrin
Foundation Board member and
emphasized the importance of
service to the community.
Josephine feels very fortunate to be able to give back to those
seeking recovery by supporting Livengrin. She loves watching
the Foundation grow in the Philadelphia area (where she
was raised). She is thrilled when new satellite offices have
been added around the region. Josephine remarks how it is
great that Livengrin is serving the community. She says there
is always a need for addiction treatment – year in and year
out. Josephine shares that she is, “glad to be able to make a
contribution every year because Livengrin really did change
my life and is still a huge part of my life.”
Josephine Sebben, Hansell
Josephine and her late husband
Founders Council Member
the Reverend Tom Sebben had
always done mission work – which she continues to this
day. Josephine volunteers her time at her church, here
at Livengrin (with Development, Finance, Clinical and
Dietary) and with Lend A Hand near Harrisburg, which
reaches out to hurricane ravaged communities. For example,
Josephine worked in communities hit by Hurricane Sandy.
Livengrin is a particularly personal cause for Josephine. Her
mother was a successful alumna of the Foundation. Her
mother’s time in treatment made a tremendous positive
difference in their lives. Josephine says, “I have supported
Livengrin because our lives were so changed by my
mother being in recovery.” Her mother had over a decade
of recovery before,
sadly, succumbing to
...glad to be able to make pancreatic cancer.
“
a contribution every year
because Livengrin really did
change my life and is still a
huge part of my life.
As many know, the
disease of addiction
runs in families.
Josephine, a retired
nurse and teacher,
the mother of 2 and grandmother of 1, sought the fellowship
of AA in the 1990s. Josephine says she had followed the
same pattern of addiction as her mother – beginning to
drink in the same way and at the same age as her mother.
Significantly, other AA Members were the first four people
to call after she lost her husband Tom.
Bucks County RDA Grant
Livengrin is very pleased to announce that it will receive
a generous infrastructure grant from the Bucks County
Redevelopment Authority (RDA) of $260,475. The grant
comes from the Authority’s Municipal Grant Program
which is aimed at responding to any impact of gambling
on the county. Livengrin, which was a sub-applicant to
Bensalem Township for the grant, will use the funds at
its inpatient campus to improve infrastructure so the
organization is positioned to provide gambling education
and counseling to those in need. We appreciate the support
of local public officials and Livengrin Board members.
Special thanks to Pennsylvania State Senator Tommy
Tomlinson for his support for this grant which will benefit
so many here in the county seeking help and education
for gambling addiction and drug and alcohol addiction.
Livengrin is also deeply appreciative to Pennsylvania State
Representative Gene DiGirolamo, Bensalem Mayor
Joseph DiGirolamo and Bensalem Township Council for
their ongoing support of Livengrin’s mission for patients
seeking recovery from addiction – which will be furthered
by this funding related to gambling. We would also like to
thank The Board of Bucks County Commissioners and
the Bucks County Redevelopment Authority for this
grant which will allow Livengrin to help even more citizens
of the county.

AAmazing AAron Helps Celebrate
Gratitude Day at Livengrin
On Thanksgiving morning 2014, Livengrin was proud to host Sean O’Neal, Nicole O’Neal
and Gail O’Neal of the organization AAmazing AAron who brought a $7,500 donation
for patient scholarships at Livengrin. The charity was started by The O’Neal Family in
memory of Aaron O’Neal who had 6 miraculous years of recovery where he worked to
help other alcoholics and addicts on an ongoing basis.
Sean O’Neal writes of his brother’s recovery, “We witnessed a transformation when Aaron
became sober. A man who would manipulate and steal from the people who loved him,
became the man that would drop everything to help a complete stranger make it from
his first day of sobriety to his second.” The mission of the organization AAmazing AAron
is to help others reach transformation by providing the resources that gave Aaron an
opportunity to change his life.

The Gratitude Meeting is held every Thanksgiving morning at Livengrin. This year, like others before it, several hundred
people expressed their gratitude for the “miracle of recovery” and attended this inspirational and transformative meeting.

In November, Livengrin Board Member Bruce Murray and his wife Ginny were honored
by the Association of Fundraising Professionals with its 2014 Volunteer Fundraisers of the
Year Award for their tireless work for Livengrin’s Alex Murray Intensive Care (AMICare)
Program. Bruce Murray joined the Livengrin Board in 2013 and has been a vigorous Board
member ever since. In 2012, Livengrin’s specialized treatment program for young adults
was named in memory of the Murrays’ youngest son, Alex, who succumbed to the disease
of addiction earlier that year. In only a few months, Bruce and Ginny personally raised over
$250,000 for AMICare. The program uses a real world approach to treating patients between
the ages of 18 and 26. The largest portion of the funding for AMICare came from the Agnes
Varis Trust.
The Association of Fundraising Professionals is the premier trade organization for people
working in the field of philanthropy. The Murrays joined other prominent organizations being
honored, including The Connelly Foundation, The Buerger Family, and The Independence
Blue Cross Foundation.
