FLORIDA - Daytona Beach to Key West
E
scape the winter doldrums and join us on a tour of the
Sunshine State. From the lakes of Central Florida to world
famous sites along the Atlantic Coast, through the natural
beauty of the Everglades to the Florida Keys and Key West,
come explore sun-soaked Florida with us and feel the warmth!
DAY 1 - This morning we will fly to Orlando, Florida where we begin
our trip. We’ll spend 2 nights in Central Florida which will serve as our
launching point to the lakes and coastline a short drive away.
DAY 2 - We begin the day with a trip to “world famous” Daytona Beach.
You don’t have to be a racing fan to enjoy a visit to Daytona International
Speedway. We’ll enjoy a guided tour of one of the best known racing
tracks in the world. Afterwards, we’ll have time to explore the Daytona
Beach Boardwalk and Pier – maybe enjoy lunch with a view while
sitting directly over the Atlantic. After lunch we depart for the charming
town of Mount Dora, on the shores of beautiful Lake Dora. While
there we’ll take a boat ride through the Dora Canal. This well-known
waterway has been called “the most beautiful mile of water in the world.”
The canal is lined with towering, ancient cypress trees draped with
Spanish moss and is a safe haven for nesting ospreys, herons and egrets.
It was also the site for early Tarzan movies.
DAY 3 - Today we travel east to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space
Center. Travel back in time and history in the Rocket Garden where you
can see the original Mercury, Atlas and Titan rockets and climb aboard
the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo capsules. Experience the historic Apollo
8 launch. At the IMAX theatre, the dream of space will come alive with a
wall of sound and a five-story screen. After lunch, we’ll drive south along
the Atlantic to begin our tour of Southern Florida. We’ll stop at Miami’s
Bayside Marketplace for dinner, before heading to our hotel in Homestead,
FL. Our hotel is in the heart of the Everglades National Park and is the
Gateway to the magnificent Florida Keys.
DAY 4 – Prepare for a full day of exploring the fascinating Everglades.
This national park is the largest remaining subtropical wilderness in the
nation. This morning we will visit the Miccosukee Indian Village. Along
with exhibits of the Native tribes that lived on the small islands of the
Everglades, you will see many of the animals that make this place their
home. An alligator wrestling demonstration will keep you on the end of
your seat. We will take a thrilling airboat ride through the vast ‘River
of Grass’ and discover a typical Indian camp. The afternoon will be spent
at Shark Valley, where a tram ride will take you deep into the heart of
the Park. The midway point brings you to the Shark Valley observation
tower, allowing a panoramic view of the heart of the Everglades.
DAY 5 – Today we will head south to the Florida Keys. The Florida
Keys is a 106 mile long chain of islands. They are often referred to as
America’s Caribbean. We will cross 42 bridges on our way to Key West,
the southernmost town in the continental United States. This afternoon
we will enjoy a sightseeing tour and view some of Key West’s most
famous sights including Ernest Hemingway’s home, Fort Zachary,
Southernmost point, and the Audubon House and Gardens. Often
compared to Bourbon Street, there is no end to the entertainment as you
explore the famous Duval Street. We will overnight in Key West.
DAY 6 – Today we will head back to Ft Lauderdale. No tour is complete
without a boat ride on the inland waterways. Experience the Rich &
Famous as we cruise past unbelievable waterfront mansions and multimillion dollar yachts. Enjoy an open air dinner at one of the many Ft
Lauderdale Beach restaurants.
DAY 7 – Pack your alligator suitcase as today we fly back home.
