This project brims with synths-a-plenty, crisp drums,
sultry back-up vocals, video game samples and
mayhem. Retro enough for the hipsters, but sound
enough for hip hop truists, and more than enough
beat to dance to, there’s something for everyone in
No More Heroes. No matter how you happen upon
it, it’s one of those albums you’ll want everyone to
know you heard first.

And if you listen to Chapter 7 (hurry
up and go do it now) you'll know that
he's gone broke doing it. He's shared
the stage with the likes of NaS, Pete
Rock, Little Brothers, Killah Priest, DJ
Qbert, Planet Asia, 2 Live Crew, Pigeon
John, C-Rayz Walz, and Del the Funky
Homosapien. 5th's refreshing vocal
stylings have frustrated many a
would-be pigeonholer: A natural, laid
back delivery similar to a Q-Tip
coupled with the hit-the-groundrunning lyricism of a workingman's
Lupe Fiasco forces most to place him
in a lane of his own.

JON REYES
is something of an anomaly in a game
that's increasingly tipping the scales in
quantity's favor, much to quality's chagrin He takes his time. He's no slowpoke (no
slowpo?) either; he's a craftsman through
and through. Its likely why while SoulSamply-Samplerson is burning his latest
table coaster full of "bangers" Jon has built
up a resume full of lip-smackers stretching
up and down Northern California, laying
down tracks for Nam, the brutally honest
Random Abiladeze, The Foulmouths, State
Cap, and even iLL-literacy members Adriel
Luis and Dahlak. He gets a feel for what
each artist, each song is about, and then
authors the beat's topography from the
ground up. If you're in a listening session
and a Jon Reyes production comes on, if
the sheer difference in quality doesn't tip
you off, its likely someone else in the studio
will - they'll turn it up, and with an ear-to-ear
grin iterate their compliments to the chef.
