November is the 11th month of the year in the Gregorian calendar and is one of the four Gregorian months with the length of 30 days. The Latin translation of “novem” is nine, for it was originally the ninth month of the Roman calendar. November begins on the same day of the week as March every year and also February except in leap years. November in the Northern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent to May in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa. Around November 17th, the Leonids meteor shower reaches its peak. November is: Tobacco Awareness Month, NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month, National Beard Month, Diabetes Awareness Month and National Native American and Native Alaskan Month. On November 11th we honor our veterans. This date was originally in honor of Armistice Day celebrating WWI vets, but post WWII it was changed to Veterans Day to honor veterans from all wars. The holiday’s observance was at one time moved to the fourth Monday of October in order to allow for long weekends. However, after protests by veterans groups, it was moved back to November 11th in an effort to retain the importance of the holiday. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. It is one of those joyous events we celebrate in the United States with lots of love and gratitude. Enjoy November! Football Facts Fun and games are always an inevitable part of entertainment for the young and the old alike! Over the years, football has become synonymous with this joyous festival of Thanksgiving.
