It is a great pleasure to extend a warm welcome
to our exhibitors, visitors, supporters, sponsors and
media to the 3rd Source Africa event.
On behalf of the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID), I have the
pleasure of welcoming you to Source Africa, the
continent’s leading apparel, textile, and footwear
trade event.

As you are no doubt aware, the African Growth and
Opportunities Act (AGOA) expires in September
2015. If you have been following the press,
the topic of AGOA and its renewal has been
making headlines, sometimes for the wrong
reasons. We are however pleased to see that
everything is on track again and it was recently
passed by the US Senate. We are also confident
that it will not encounter any obstacles with the
House of Representatives when it is presented in
June, paving the way to it being re-enacted for
another 10 years. AGOA has been key to African
manufacturers as it permits duty free imports to
the USA for a large number of products, including
apparel, textiles and footwear. As a result, several
recognised US brands and retailers are sourcing
from the region and taking great advantage of
savings on both labour and duty rates. For this
reason the theme for Source Africa 2015 is ‘AGOA The Next 10 Years’.
Source Africa has become pan-Africa’s most
important textile, clothing and footwear trade event.
It attracts over 1,600 international and regional
buyers and will again feature country pavilions
as the centrepiece of more than 200 African
exhibitors interested in growing their exports.
Countries represented at the event include South
Africa, Mauritius, Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland,
Madagascar, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya,
Nigeria, Zimbabwe, China, Taiwan and USA.
The two main objectives of the event are to
promote African manufacturers to both regional
and international decision makers, with the aim to
increase market share for the continent as well as
develop regional trade between African countries.
With the African apparel and footwear industry
emerging as a key stakeholder in the international
market, Source Africa will again provide the perfect
opportunity for manufacturers, wholesalers, brands,
retailers and industry professionals to seek
opportunities and sustainable partnerships with
key players in this ever-evolving sector.
A series of seminars will be presented by top
international speakers. We would like to extend our
thanks to our sponsors, USAID SATH and Industrial
Development Corporation (IDC), as well as all our
other supporters. Without their ongoing support
and commitment, Source Africa 2015 would not be

Over the past four years, Source Africa has been
transformed into the most important annual
pan-African textile, clothing, footwear and fashion
accessory trade event on the global calendar,
attracting over 1,600 international and regional
buyers and more than 200 African exhibitors.

inception by USAID’s Southern Africa Trade
Hub Program (www.satradehub.org). Working
closely with its local partners Leaders in Trade
Exhibitions (LTE), Fabrikology, and the American
Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA), as
well as with the office of the United States Trade
Representative (USTR), USAID’s Southern Africa
Trade Hub is strengthening the impact of the
African Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA)
in Southern Africa by enhancing value chain
development, increasing export opportunities
to the US, and expanding quality standards and
entrepreneurship across the region.
A prominent feature of this year’s Source Africa is
the outstanding business seminar series. Notable
