On behalf of the Equitation Committee of the Connecticut Hunter and Jumper Association, welcome to all the riders, families, and trainers! Last year was our 25th anniversary, and as we start our next 25 years, we have put together a Finals Weekend that is sure to be enjoyable for all. All the familiar elements are in place; accomplished judges, great courses, wonderful prizes for all, a super program that is a true keepsake, the scrumptious complimentary buffets, an accommodating schedule, and a beautiful setting at the Fairfield County Hunt Club. The past year has been a challenging economic time for everyone, but we have worked very hard to make sure Finals weekend will still represent a little bit of magic in your show season. Everyone who qualifies has put great effort into coming here, and you deserve the recognition. So look for a few surprises this year! We hope you will have the time (and the ride!) of your life this weekend, and we are very thankful for your support of the CHJA. While you are here, we hope you will remember to give a kind word to everyone who made it possible – your family, your trainer, your horse, your vet, groom and farrier, all our incredibly generous sponsors, the CHJA volunteers (they are all so professional, you may forget they are volunteers!), and lastly, YOURSELF! Have a great weekend! THURSDAY, AUGUST 13TH 10:00 am CHJA Secretary Available 12:00 – 4:00 pm Class 1: Unjudged Warm Up 2'3" (One ticket per entry number. Must pre enter!) Now a professional, Scott is one of the country's leading hunter riders and judges. T H E C O N N E C T I C U T H U N T E R & J U M P E R A S S O C I AT I O N Todd Karn, a horse lover as long as he can remember, started riding Western at eight years old, but switched to English by the time he was ten. Through his junior years he rode with Carol Molony and Kip Rosenthal, “two people that have become life long friends.” He never owned his own horse as a junior, and worked in the family’s store to afford entry fees. But in 1976 he borrowed a retired horse from a friend, and under Kip’s very patient eye, qualified and rode in the Medal and Maclay Finals. Todd rode while at Bennett College in Millbrook NY, and soon after launched his professional career, starting at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club. He has ridden many talented horses, including “Chital,” a hunter purchased from Mr. & Mrs. William Steinkraus that excelled in the zone and placed at the National Horse Show in Regular Working Hunters. There was also “The Wizard,” the 1994 Regular Conformation Hunter Champion at Devon, owned by the late Anne E. Dyson, a friend and wonderful client. Todd received his judge’s card at the age of 25 and has judged many top shows, among them The Hampton Classic, Capital Challenge, Middleburg National, and the New England Medal Finals. Todd resides in Fayetteville, NY, near Syracuse, and continues to show, teach and bring along young prospects. 2 6 TH A N N U A L M E D A L F I N A L S , A U G U S T 1 3 – 1 6 , 2 0 0 9 3 2009 CHJA MEDAL FINALS SPONSORS The Connecticut Hunter & Jumper Association Board of Directors and The Medal Finals Equitation Committee Would Like to Thank All of the Parents & Trainers for Their Continued Support of the CHJA Best Wishes and Good Luck to All the Qualifiers at the 2009 Medal Finals Weekend Thank you to our Sponsors, Medal Contributors & Advertisers whose gracious generosity helps to assure the continued success of the CHJA Medal Finals!
