Lafarge in
North America
The Lafarge Group is the
world leader in building
materials, with top-ranking
positions in all of its
businesses: Cement,
Aggregates & Concrete
and Gypsum. The Group
employs 78,000 employees
in 78 countries. Lafarge
is the largest diversified
supplier of construction
materials in the United
States and Canada.
The Lafarge Group places
innovation at the heart of
its priorities, working for
sustainable construction
and architectural creativity.
Custom Color Masonry
>Specifications Lafarge’s Custom Color
Masonry Cements comply with the
requirements of ASTM C 91. Properly
mixed with 2-1/4 to 3 parts sand conforming to ASTM C 144, the mortar
should exceed the requirements of ASTM
C 270 for Type N, Type S or Type M.
>Custom Colors Although the color
samples shown on page 7 are the colors
most in demand, some projects call for
other shades. Lafarge will be happy to
work with its clients to develop the
required color. As color can be affected
by certain sands used on job sites,
Lafarge Masonry Cements can be custom
colored so that available sand can be
used. All of the samples produced by
Lafarge are made with white sand to most
accurately demonstrate the color potential
of the cement.

> Cleaning color mortar Improper cleaning
methods can damage a structure. Cleaning
colored mortar requires special attention.
Muriatic acid should not be used to clean
walls built with mortar containing Lafarge
cement. The masonry cleaning recommendations of the manufacturer of the
masonry unit should be followed.
>Light Colors Light color cements for
masonry should be mixed with sand that
is lighter in color than the cement for
masonry. Light color cements for masonry
mixed with a dark sand will produce a
mortar that is darker than the cement.
Portland & Lime
Lafarge Eaglebond® Portland & Lime is
a premix of portland cement and Type S
hydrated lime and is formulated for use
as a prepared portland and lime cement.
It is available in natural grey, and in case
the project calls for a special custom
blended shade, this can also be accomodated. Available in Type N, Type S and
Type M formulations.
Mortar Cement
Lafarge Mortar Cement complies with
ASTM C 1329. Custom color mortar
cements are available as a special order
item.
> Product color Where possible the colors
used in the manufacturing process are
derived from sustainable sources.

CEMENT
Colors that last
Lafarge Masonry Colors last longer
because the finest ingredients available
are used. The homogenization process
is one of the most advanced and sophisticated in the industry. Practically speaking, the color pigment and the cement
particle become one. That is why the rich
beautiful colors endure.
A sample of what Lafarge
offers
In order to make precise color selections
easier, an extensive choice of colored cements is offered. Joint-size color sticks
are available for all standard colors, as
well as for many of the custom colors
developed over the years. If a new custom color is required, a sample stick in
the new color can be provided. Sample
brick panels mounted on boards can also
be sent to the Lafarge color lab for color
matching.

Physical Properties
Precautions
Lafarge Masonry Cement mortars provide
an excellent level of performance in the
functional areas of workability, strength,
durability and appearance.
Direct contact with wet cement should
be avoided. If contact occurs, the skin
should be washed with water as soon as
possible. Exposure can cause serious,
potentially irreversible tissue destruction
in the form of chemical (caustic) burns.
If cement gets into the eyes, immediately rinse thoroughly with water and seek
medical attention. For more information,
reference the applicable Lafarge Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). The MSDS
should be consulted prior to use of this
product and is available upon request
and online at www.lafarge-na.com.
The following is a general guide for selection of mortar type. Other factors such
as type and absorption of masonry units,
climate and exposure, applicable building codes and engineering requirements
should also be considered.
