On Tuesday May 7 Stage 3 had a visit from the
Richmond Tweed Librarians. They explained what
services and resources are available to them free of
charge. One of these is called MYTUTOR which is a free
service available through their website from 4pm to 8pm.
Students can log on and receive assistance with any
research or homework they may be having difficulty with.
The tutors are fully qualified and screened. If you would

WELCOME BACK
It’s hard to believe that it’s May already, the year is
certainly flying by and we still have much to do. This term
certainly looks busy with many great extra curricula
activities planned for students that will challenge and
engage our young people. Cross country, athletics, Years
4 and 5 major excursion, art workshops, NAPLAN,
NAIDOC celebrations just to name a few.
P&C Meeting
Reminder that the next P & C meeting will be held on
Tuesday, May 14 at 7pm in the school library. It is a
great way to find out what is happening within the school
and new members are always welcome.
That's it for now, hope all you mum's have a wonderful
Mother’s Day. Don’t forget the mother’s day stall is still
open tomorrow if you missed out today.
Kerren Kernaghan (President)
We are very fortunate to have Mr Andrew McIntyre start
the term with us. Andrew is replacing his lovely wife while
she is on maternity leave with their first child. All the best
Alyson and welcome Andrew!
ANZAC March
A huge thankyou to all those parents who brought their
children into Ballina for the ANZAC march, it was lovely to
watch the little Kindergarten children marching along
waving their flags and our wonderful young school
leaders Mia, Amelia, Ben and Blake demonstrate
excellent leadership skills. Over 70 students marched on
the day. A big thank you must also go to those staff
members who were able to give up their time to come
along and help. Well done everyone.
ANZAC School Service
Last Wednesday four very capable student leaders Mia,
Amelia, Ben and Blake lead the school ANZAC service.
Mr Merv Stevens and Mr Baxter Williams representing the
Ballina Sub Branch of the RSL attended the service with
Mr Stevens speaking to the students.
School Cross Country
Last Thursday we saw the running of our annual school
cross country despite a couple of deluges. Mr Lyndon
supported by staff again put on a great event with a very
high level of student participation. The first ten place
getters will go on to the district cross country which will be
held at Lennox on Friday, May 24.
Art Enrichment
This week a number of students from Stages 2 and 3 will
be participating in the schools Art Enrichment workshops
run by Mr Jamie Hoile. This is the second year we have
run in-school workshops and they have become very
popular with students who have the chance to produce
excellent pieces of artwork.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Biggest Morning Tea – Thursday May 23
The SRC is organising the Biggest Morning Tea. In order
for this to be a success we are asking parents of
students in Years 2, 3 and 4 to donate some baked
goods such as cakes, muffins, slices, biscuits (please list
ingredients). All children wishing to participate in the
Biggest Morning Tea are asked to bring in a $2 donation
on the day to receive a drink and food that has been
donated. The children may also wear something pink.
Thank you for your support.
Caring for our School Community
Our school is participating in Live Life Well at School
Why reduce television time?
 Studies have shown we use less energy watching TV
than sitting still
 TV influences the food choice of kids – Australia has
a high rate of food advertising during children’s
viewing hours
 TV replaces time a child can be active and enjoy
physical activity
 There is an association between TV watching and
being overweight
 40% of children 5 – 12 years report watching an
average of two hours or more of television or videos a
day.
Do an hour of physical activity every day
 Children need at least 60 minutes of activity each
day. Children are not going to have enough physical
activity while at school. Families can plan extra
activity into their lives to make up the difference.
