Brasil Round 4 Pelotas Basin Orivaldo Bagni Block Definition Superintendency PELOTAS BASIN • Presentation Ø Location Ø Generalities Ø Tectono-stratigraphic evolution Ø Petroleum System Ø Blocks for Bidding PELOTAS Basin Location Map Area of the basin: 210,000 km2 Wells: 20 (9 wildcats) PELOTAS BASIN • Generalities Ø Area: 210,000 km² Ø Boundaries: - Uruguai geographic boundary - Florianópolis High (Santos Basin) Ø Exploratory wells: 20 (9 wildcats) PELOTAS BASIN • Tectonic-stratigraphic evolution Ø Pre-rift: Paleozoic of Parana Basin (onshore well: 2-TO-1-RS) Ø Rift: -Neocomian basalts (Imbituba Fm). -Barremian Sequence (Cassino Fm). (Continental seq in the well 1-RSS-3) -Antithetic faults system. Ø Post-rift: Starting in Aptian. Underdevelopment adiastrophic tectonic. PELOTAS BASIN • Tectonic-stratigraphic evolution Ø Post-rift: Principal Sequences. – Aptian-Albian sequence (Ariri Fm). Evaporites in the well 1-SCS-3. – Late Albian to Maastrichtian sequence (Atlântida, Tramandaí, Cidreira and Imbé Fms). Beginning of thermal subsidence of the basin. – Paleocen to Recent sequence (Cidreira and Imbé Fm). Deposition of fine clastics, except in the Mostardas Low. Significant Gravity Tectonics (shale diapirs) in the Rio Grande Cone (Listric faults, folders and thrust faults). PELOTAS BASIN Stratigraphic Chart PELOTAS BASIN Schematic Geological Section PELOTAS BASIN • Petroleum System Ø Source Rocks Ø Reservoirs Rocks/Seals Ø Principal Plays Ø Generation/Maturation Ø Migration/Trapping PELOTAS BASIN Petroleum System • Source rocks Ø Permian shales of the Irati Fm. Ø Barremian lacustrine shales of the rift phase. Ø Cenomanian/Turonian shales (2-BPS-6). Ø Tertiary shales of the Imbé Fm (“Cone”). PELOTAS BASIN Petroleum System • Potential reservoirs Ø Imbé Fm turbidites (Eocene/Oligocene). Ø Imbé Fm sandstones in the area of the “Cone” (Miocene/Pliocene). Ø Possible reservoirs of the Rift Phase (Neocomian/Barremian). • Cap rocks Ø Cretaceous and Tertiary shales. PELOTAS BASIN Petroleum System • Migration Ø Rift – direct contact. Ø Drift – unconformity surfaces, listric faults (“Cone” area). • Trapping Ø Structural Ø Stratigraphic Ø Mixed (“Cone” area) PELOTAS BASIN Block for bidding • New Frontier Block Ø BM-P-1 • Regional Data: Ø 2D seismic: 4,448 km Ø Wells: 6 PELOTAS BASIN Regional Seismic and Wells PELOTAS BASIN Structural Framework PELOTAS BASIN 2D Seismic: BM-P-1 PELOTAS BASIN Wells: BM-P-1 PELOTAS BASIN New Frontier Block • Block BM-P-1 Ø Total area: 11,042 km². Ø Water depth: 50 to 1,900 m. Ø Wells drilled: 1 (T.D: -2365 m (Imbé Fm), reservoirs not present.
