without any additions or corrections.
Financial Report: The July CFC financial status was reported by Greg Stanley. The club is on
sound financial ground and the 50/50 charity fund raffle is doing well. We have a record
number of pre-registrations for the upcoming car show
Membership status: As of June 30th we have 89 members: 79 Full, 10 Associate. Membership

have not received your name badge contact Jim to get it.
National Corvette Museum:
Don spoke about this upcoming trip to Corvettes at Carlisle returning back with a stop at the
anniversary celebration at the National Corvette Museum. He also spoke about the three
museum hall of fame inductees, Wil Cooksey, Werner Meier, and Johnny O’Connell. Don has
raffle tickets for a 2013 60th anniversary coupe so if you’re interested see him for a ticket. The
complete report with details can be found in the newsletter.
Old Business
Tony has not been able to update the website for the changes to the bylaws but hopes to have
that taken care of soon.
July 14 was the rain date for the Poplar Grove car show there were about 100 cars displayed
including 6 of our members displaying their corvettes. Several members won trophies.
August 3rd was the ECCC track day attended by a number of members and a good time was
had by all. A couple of members had minor mishaps with no damage reported.
Saturday August 3rd was Cars and Coffee at Chili’s on South College there were 200 plus
cars and a good turnout of corvettes and mustangs as well as lots of other types of cars. Several
members won gift cards in the raffle
August 10th was the CFC track day at Darlington we had 25 cars total with 4 members of the
Mustang club joining with us. A good time was had by all. To see pictures of the event go to the
clubs or Darlington race tracks Facebook Page.
August 11th was the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival car show attended by several members
that also won trophies.
Congratulations to all members that won trophies. Well done
CFC Corvette Show: Gordon Boyd spoke about the upcoming corvette show. He asked the
members to take some advertising flyers to put around town to promote the car show. Gordon
has a goal of having 100 corvettes in the show this year so let’s get out and promote the show.
Gordon has been in contact with the Myrtle Beach corvette club and has challenged them to win
the best club participation trophy at our show as we have won it the last three years at their
show and they have a much bigger club than ours.
Gordon spoke about the need for members to sign up to help with the various jobs the day of the
show a volunteer signup sheet was sent around for members to sign up for jobs at the car
show. Please let Gordon know that you can help with the car show what you are willing to do by
calling or e-mailing him. ([email protected]).
Judges Needed:
Don’t be afraid to volunteer to be a judge as that’s a job that needs a large number of people so
we can get it done promptly and we will be having a judging clinic and cookout starting at noon
Saturday September 7th (details in the newsletter) to help everyone with judging skills.
Donations and Prizes Needed:
Gordon also asked that the members continue getting some donations for the silent auction and
bring them to the next meeting. Remember the charity we will be supporting with the proceeds
of the corvette show is AARP drive to end hunger. We are asking all club members to please
bring a car related door prize item to our next meeting (value not to exceed $10.00). This would
be in addition to any silent auction prize that they would like to donate. We are asking members
to visit businesses to solicit silent auction items. All sponsors of items will be listed on our
sponsor board and literature.
PLEASE bring canned food or non-perishable food to the car show to support the local food
bank. Last year our donation to AARP the local food bank was able to provide meals for 22,000
people. GOOD JOB Cape Fear Corvettes Members.
The National Corvette Museum store will also be in attendance again this year.
Saturday Meet and Greet:
There will also be a meet and greet Saturday night (9/14) at 5:00 on the porch at Carrabba’s
Italian Grill for the people traveling to the show from out of town and we need a good group of
CFC members to also attend.
CFC Social After the Show
After the show there will be a social at the Fox and Hound Grill in Mayfair for anyone interested
in attending. They will reserve tables in the pool room area and provide free appitizers.
Members are requested to wear a white club logo shirt for the car show so we can be recognized
by the attendees as member of Cape Fear Corvettes
Club Logo Clothing:
Club logo apparel is available from Best Uniform Inc., 2716 Exchange Dr., Wilmington (910-7916050) and from Queensboro Shirts, 1400 Marstellar St. Wilmington (910-251-1251)

Donald Paulson – Master Ambassador & Life Member NCM
See me on how easy it is to become a member of the NCM. You can join thru me or go directly to
www.corvettemuseum.org to join, just let me know so I can recognize you at our next meeting.
August is a great month to enjoy your corvette.
First off to Carlisle
Look for us Friday or Saturday in the fun field at Carlisle.
We plan to spend a few days with our daughter in York, PA and help her celebrate her birthday.
Then a leisurely drive to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY to the 19th NCM Anniversary
Celebration and Hall of fame induction the following weekend. This trip would not be complete without a few
stops along the Bourbon trail.
We are excited to be attending the Ambassadors luncheon and award Ceremony. It is always fun to meet and
see what the other ambassadors are doing. We also will be attending a Life member dinner at the NCM. We
will not leave without visiting the new Motorsport Park.
The 2013 Corvette Hall of Fame inductees are:
Wil Cooksey – former Bowling Green Plant Manager. Cooksey’s GM career began in 1972. From
there he moved between several plants including St. Louis, Missouri, Doraville, Georgia, and
Fairfax, Kansas. In February 1993 he became Plant Manager at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant
and stayed until there until he retired in 2008. He also served on the NCM Board of Directors and
started many of the Delivery Department programs at the Museum including R8C Museum Delivery,
Xperience, Buyers’ Tours, and others. In 2008 GM offered a limited number of Wil Cooksey
Corvette Z06′s.
Werner Meier – Corvette enthusiast, historian, and restorer. Meier bought his first new Corvette (a
1969) on his 18th birthday. After graduating from General Motors Institute (GMI), he worked at GM
in a variety of engineering roles over his 33 year career. After leaving GM he started Masterworks
Automotive Services (http://www.mwauto.com/) specializing in Corvette repair and restoration.
Some of Meier’s personal Corvettes have included the 1958 “Fancy Free” styling car, the 1963
Corvette Harley Earl styling car, and Bill Mitchell’s 1964 styling car. He has also organized Corvette
displays at significant events such as the Meadowbrook Concours d’Elegance, Bay Harbor Concours
d’Elegance and Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. Meier was inducted into the 1998 Bloomington
Gold Corvette Hall of Fame and is a Lifetime Member of the National Corvette Museum.
Johnny O’Connell – Corvette Racing driver. Johnny O thought of as the most successful GM
factory racecar driver from the U.S. O’Connell joined the factory Corvette Racing team in 2001 and
helped them score overall victory at Daytona and class victory at Le Mans. Since that time he has
assisted the Corvette Racing team capture eight straight manufacturers’ titles and seven class wins at
Sebring. He is the first American to score four class wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He holds
ALMS records including: the most career starts (102), most podium finishes (80), most top-five

CALLAWAY TO BUILD FIA GT3 CORVETTES
Callaway Competition to Develop, Homologate New Corvette C7 Race Car
OLD LYME CONNECTICUT/LEINGARTEN GERMANY (July 24, 2013) –
Callaway Competition GmbH, Leingarten Germany, will embark on a development program for making the
new Corvette C7 into a GT3-class race car and submit for homologation from the FIA.
Specialists, like Callaway, require authorization from original equipment manufacturers, like Chevrolet, to
submit the homologation forms necessary to allow their version of the car to be the version allowed in FIA
competition. As Callaway has just received the required letter of authorization from Chevrolet, Callaway
has become the appointed specialist representative for building and holding the homologation of the
Corvette C7 FIA GT3 race cars.
Callaway has also been the homologation holder for the Corvette C6 version of the GT3 car with the FIA.
The Callaway team is currently the most successful in GT3, based on numerous Drivers and Team
Championships from 2007 to present.
