The ultimate in environmental sampling
EnviroMax Plus® is a larger size pointed
foam-tip sampling swab, premoistened
with Neutralising Buffer. Ready to use in
its large safe orange capped tube, robust
and easy to carry to the sampling site,
then convenient to transport to the
testing laboratory.
The large super-absorbent foam head on
EnviroMax Plus® ensures collection of an adequate
sample for the detection of surviving
microorganisms on food contact
surfaces, when these maybe unevenly
distributed following cleaning. The
neutralisers cancel the effects of
leftover traces of chlorine and
quaternary ammonium compounds.
Neutralising Buffer is a recommended
wetting agent for the swabbing of dairy and
food equipment1,2. The solution inactivates
the bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects
of chlorine and quaternary ammonium
based reagents, ensuring that any surviving
microorganisms can be reliably detected.
The swab shaft of EnviroMax Plus® features
a paddle-shaped end underneath the foam
head. At the other end the shaft is securely
mounted in the large bright-orange cap.
These features make the device very easy
to handle and manipulate, while the pointed
foam head is ideal for sampling larger
Catch and Release
areas, and equipment parts. The clear
tube and orange cap are made from
shatterproof plastic, so there is no
risk of splinters in critical production
areas. The “chunky” cap requires just a
quarter turn to open, and yet closes
securely.
Other than the premoistening buffer
on the pointed foam head, there is no
additional liquid in the tube. On receipt
at the laboratory, testing of EnviroMax
Plus® can be by conventional culture
based methods, and the sample should

also be suitable for any advanced
molecular techniques, although
these must always be accompanied
by adequate controls. It is simple to
add any test liquids to the tube, such
as chromogenic broths for specific
target pathogens. The white foam tip

provides an ideal background for the
early observation of any colorimetric changes.
In house studies have shown excellent recoveries for at
least 48 hours of Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteritidis,
Listeria monocytogenes, Listeria inocula, Listeria grayii, and
Staphylococcus aureus. Studies have also shown good
performance with proprietary liquid chromogenic media for
Salmonella and Listeria.
EnviroMax Plus® can be stored at ambient or refrigerated
temperatures.
