Nemanja Radulovic – Violin
Nemanja Radulovic studied at the University of Arts in Belgrade
with Dejan Mihailovic and at the University of Music Saarland
with Joshua Epstein.
At the age of 14, he moved to France and was accepted into the
class of Patrice Fontanarosa at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in September of 2011. He participated in masterclasses with Yehudi Menuhin, Joshua Epstein
and Salvatore Accardo.
Radulovic has received awards in the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition Hannover,
the George Enescu International Competition in Bucharest, the Antonio Stradivari Competition in
Cremona, and the Wieniawski-Lipinski Competition in Poland. He is also an awardee of the Groupe
Banque Populaire foundation. Radulovic’s debut concerts at the ›Kölner Philharmonie‹, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the Barbican London, the Cité de la Musique
in Paris, and in New York’s Carnegie Hall were hugely successful.
In the 2014/15 season, he will perform, among others, with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra,
the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Philharmonie Essen.
Nemanja Radulovic has founded two ensembles: the string sextet ›Les Trilles du Diable‹ and the
orchestra ›Double Sens‹ with Serbian and French musicians. The ›Trilles du Diable‹ had their debut
performance in 2014 at the Rheingau Music Festival.
His albums shot to the top of the international best-selling and download lists right away and received numerous awards, as well as rave reviews from the press: ›Diapason Découverte‹, Classica’s
›Choc‹, ›La Clef ResMusica‹, ›The Strad‹, and Pizzicato’s ›Supersonic‹.
In January 2014, Radulovic signed an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon.
His latest recording, ›Journey East‹, is his seventh album.

Lower Saxony State Orchestra Hannover
The history of the Lower Saxony State Orchestra extends back into the year 1636: In the midst of the
Thirty Years’ War, Duke Georg von Calenberg founded an orchestra that was to play concerts at
court. The ensemble’s first kapellmeisters included Heinrich Schütz, Agostino Steffani, and George
Frederick Handel; Jean Baptiste Farinelli was one of the concertmasters of this early phase. It was
not until the 19th century that the court orchestra became an opera orchestra. Heinrich Marschner
and Hans von Bülow were among the most prominent kapellmeisters and Joseph Joachim was the
most famous concertmaster of this time.
Some of the orchestra’s most distinctive general music directors during first half of the 20th century
include Rudolf Krasselt and Franz Konwitschny. Among its guest conductors were Wilhelm Furtwängler, Otto Klemperer, Hans Knappertsbusch, and Ferenc Fricsay, and composers such as Franz
Schreker, Igor Stravinsky, Hans Pfitzner, and Paul Hindemith conducted performances of their
own works.

Since January 1, 1970, the orchestra belongs to the ›Niedersächsische Staatstheater Hannover
GmbH‹ (Lower Saxony State Theater Company Hannover) and, as the largest musical ensemble of
the state, is funded by Lower Saxony. To date, the orchestra consists of 112 players. Since 2011,
Music Director Karen Kamensek has been the orchestra’s chief conductor.
In addition to daily changing opera productions, the Lower Saxony State Orchestra performs eight
symphony concerts and a number of special concerts, as well as several concerts for children and
young adults each season. The ensemble’s chamber music series consists of eight matinees per
season. In cooperation with the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and ›Musik 21
Niedersachsen‹, the orchestra has been hosting the festival ›Klangbrücken‹ (bridges of sound) since
2014. Guest performances at festivals such as the Vienna Festival, the Edinburgh International
Festival and at the ›Brucknerhaus Linz‹, as well as regular radio live broadcasts of opera premieres
enhance the Lower Saxony State Orchestra Hannover’s daily agenda.

Karen Kamensek
Karen Kamensek was born in Chicago. In 2011, she was appointed
Music Director of the Hannover State Opera. During and immediately
following her studies at Indiana University, she conducted at the
Houston Grand Opera, toured with the New York City Opera and
directed the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Honduras, the Louisville
Orchestra, and the Bochum Symphony Orchestra. Kamensek is especially fond of the composer Philip Glass and conducted, among others,
the premieres of Glass’ operas ›Orphée‹ (1993) and ›Les Enfants
Terribles‹ (1996). The performance of ›Orphée‹ at the Jeunesses Musicales Festival in Weikersheim marked her European debut as a
conductor.
Between 2000 and 2002, Karen Kamensek was Music Director at the Volksoper Vienna; from 2003 until 2006,
she conducted at the Freiburg Theater as Music Director. During the 2007/2008 season, she was appointed
interim Music Director at the Slovene National Theatre in Maribor, followed by an engagement as Assistant
Music Director at the Hamburg State Opera between 2008 and 2011.
As a sought-after guest conductor, Karen Kamensek has been conducting at major opera houses all over the
world, including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Frankfurt Opera, the Stuttgart
State Opera, the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen, the Volksoper Vienna, the Prague State Opera, the
Opéra National de Bordeaux, the San Diego Opera, and the Opera Australia Melbourne. Additionally, Karen
Kamensek has conducted the Basel Sinfonietta, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Freiburg Philharmonic
Orchestra, the Hamburg Philharmonic, the Vlaams Radio Orchestra Brussels, and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.
