Continuing Education Attendees of the 2015 ODA Leadership Institute have the opportunity to earn up to 4 CE credits. Complete CE information can be found on www.oda.org/ events. For the most up-to-date information about the Leadership Institute, follow @OhioDentalAssoc on Twitter and use the hashtag #ODA15LI Parliamentary Procedure 101 Presented by: Dr. Michael Halasz, Speaker of the ODA House of Delegates This breakout session will introduce participants to parliamentary procedure. Through a working example of presenting a motion, amending it, referring it, and ending debate, this session will provide methods of conducting meetings in a fair, orderly and expeditious manner. Third-Party Audits: Preparation Through Compliance Presented by: Dr. Steve Adair, President, Palmetto Dental Consulting Public and private third-party payers audit their providers as a means to recover overpayments, to scrutinize records for possible improper behavior, and perhaps to enlist providers in controlling utilization and costs. State budget shortfalls and the growing federal deficit have prompted increased scrutiny of Medicaid providers by Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) to uncover instances of fraud and abuse. While it may not be possible to completely forestall a third-party payer audit, having a compliance plan in place can greatly reduce a practice’s exposure to adverse outcomes. This presentation will focus on the elements of a compliance program and proper dental record documentation. Dentistry is at a crossroads. So is the U.S. health care system. This presentation will review important developments in the dental sector within the past decade, identify game changers that will reshape the dental practice environment in the coming years, and will identify new opportunities for the profession. Through a data-driven, evidence-based approach, the case will be made that significant change is on the horizon and the dental profession must face the challenges and opportunities head on. Oral health is a critically important component of the total health picture that Ohio is focused on improving. The Patient-Centered Medical Home model of care is embraced as a way to improve health by better coordinating the work of multiple health professionals touching the lives of each individual patient. This presentation will show how this model promises to improve population health in the communities we serve by creating medical neighborhoods of integrated service delivery, enhancing access to care and incorporating payment reform that recognizes the importance of aligning payment with value, not volume. Marilyn Moats Kennedy is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and holds both a Bachelor and Masters degree. She is the founder and president of Moats Kennedy, Inc and has written six books, been a columnist for Glamour magazine, and appeared on 20/20, Good Morning America, and Oprah. Dr. Marko Vujicic is Chief Economist and Vice President of the Health Policy Institute at the American Dental Association where he is responsible for overseeing all of the association’s policy research activities. Dr. Vujicic obtained his Ph.D. in economics from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor’s degree in business from McGill University in Montreal.
