Located along the Vistula, Krakow is defined as the cradle of Polish culture and as the hometown of Blessed John Paul II, a man of charismatic faith that has profoundly marked the history of Poland. Gather in Czestochowa, the most important place of pilgrimage of Poland known for the miraculous icon of the Black Virgin; visit Wadowice, the birthplace of Karol Wajtyla (Pope John Paul II); breathe the fresh air of the Tatras (the Carpathians), these unique Polish mountains with an alpine character where Pope loved hiking and skiing. Other iconic figures also participated in the Christian influence of this country including Saint Faustina who offered his life for the salvation of the souls of sinners (Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy in Lagiewniki) and St. Maximilian Kolbe who in the Auschwitz camp, took the place of a father sentenced to death.This exceptional pilgrimage is also the opportunity to visit prestigious landmarks such as the mines of salt of Wieliczka and the Tatras mountains. Itinerary Day 1 | Saturday August 13th Depart Montreal today for overnight transatlantic flights to Warsaw. DEPARTURE FROM MONTREAL Day 2 | Sunday August 14th ARRIVE WARSAW Upon arrival in Warsaw, meet our Catholic Polish tour escort and transfer to the center of Warsaw. This afternoon, celebrate Mass at the Church of St. Stanislaw Kostka, outside of which is the tomb of Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko, chaplain and martyr of the Solidarity Movement. After Mass, explore the museum of Fr. Popieluszko. Next, enjoy a Welcome Dinner hosted by Steve and Janet Ray in the reconstructed Warsaw Old Town featuring colorful houses, art galleries, and quaint restaurants. Overnight in Warsaw. (Note: activities today depend on the actual flight arrival time.) (D) Day 3| Monday August 15th FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY| WARSAW | NIEPOKALANOW | WARSAW Depart to Niepokolanow – the Immaculata city, built by Fr. Maximilian Kolbe. Celebrate Mass at the Shrine of Fr. Maximilian Kolbe. Return to Warsaw for a city sightseeing tour that introduces us to the most important sights of the capital city of Poland. Raised from the ashes of World War II, we begin our tour at St. John’s Cathedral, where Servant of God Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski is buried. Also see the Royal Castle Square, which features the magnificent royal residence and Sigmund Column. Next see the Jewish Quarter and Heroes Memorial. Later this afternoon, we arrive at the beautiful Lazienki Park and Palace, former summer residence of the Polish King. While in the Park, see the famous Chopin Monument. Dinner on your own and overnight in Warsaw. (CB) Day 4| Tuesday August 16th WARSAW | CZESTOCHOWA | ZAKOPANE Depart Warsaw for Czestochowa, the center of Poland’s religious life and home of the famous icon of the Black Madonna. Celebrate Mass at the Shrine, followed by a guided tour. Then travel to Zakopane, St. John Paul II’s favorite place for recreation and relaxation. Dinner and overnight in Zakopane. (CB, D) Day 5| Wednesday August 17th ZAKOPANE Enjoy a tour of Zakopane, nestled in the scenic hills of Southern Poland. Celebrate Mass at Fatima Church, which was built by the mountaineers in gratitude for the Blessed Mother saving the life of St. John Paul II from the assassination attempt. (This church was blessed by St. John Paul II in 1999.) Take the Gondolas to Mt. Glubowka for a bird’s eye view over the city and hillsides of Zakopane where St. John Paul II used to climb the trails. Next, tour the city, followed by a delicious “highlander lunch”. This afternoon there will be time for strolling and shopping on Krupowki Street. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Zakopane. (CB, L) Day 6| Thursday August 18th ZAKOPANE | KALWARIA | SALT MINE | KRAKOW Check out of hotel and depart Zakopane for Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, known as the Polish Jerusalem. The Shrine is dedicated to the Passion of the Christ and also to the miraculous Icon of the Virgin Mary. Celebrate Mass at the Shrine. Depart for Wieliczka. Upon arrival have a guided tour of the World Famous Salt Mines to see the statue of St. John Paul II, which is carved in salt. Continue on to Krakow, where you’ll enjoy dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Krakow. (CB, D) Day 7| Friday August 19th WAWEL HILL |DIVINE MERCY CENTER| KRAKOW Celebrate Mass at Wawel Cathedral, where St. John Paul II was ordained a priest and celebrated his first Mass. Tour Wawel Hill and Cathedral to see the tombs of St. Stanislaw and St. Hedwig. It is also the final resting place of Polish kings, poets, and national heroes. Guided tour of Royal Chambers at the Wawel Hill. Visit the Market Square and attend the opening of the Witt Stwosz altar at the Mariacki Church (St. Mary’s Church). Lunch on your own at Krakow Market Square. Visit the new St. John Paul II Center, where you will see the relics of St. John Paul II. Travel to the tomb of St. Faustina Kowalska where we will pray the Divine Mercy Novena. Tour the convent and the Basilica of the Divine Mercy, which was St. John Paul II, during his last trip to Poland. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Krakow. (CB) Itinerary Day 8| Saturday August 20th KRAKOW | AUSCHWITZ | KRAKOW Take a morning tour of the Kazimierz Jewish Quarter. Celebrate Mass at St. Stanislaw on the Rock Church. Lunch on your own. Depart for Auschwitz, the largest World War II concentration camp in Europe. Take a guided tour of the camp including the Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe. Return to Krakow. Dinner on your own and overnight in Krakow. (CB) Day 9| Sunday August 21st KRAKOW | WADOWICE | KRAKOW Travel to Wadowice, the birthplace and hometown of St. John Paul II. Visit his house, which is now a museum. Celebrate Mass in the Basilica of the Offering of the Blessed Virgin Mary and see the baptismal font where St. John Paul II was baptized. Return to Krakow for a free afternoon to enjoy the tourist area around the Main Square in Krakow. Farewell Dinner in Poland at the famous fourteenth century restaurant, “Wierzynek,” where kings and presidents have dined. Overnight in Krakow. Spiritours will not be required to intervene when a problem occurs between the authorities of a country and a member of the group if he would not comply with the laws, customs, rules and traditions of the host country. Insurance We suggest that you take a trip cancellation or interruption insurance in case of sickness, hospitalization, death of the covered person or person’s family members, disaster (fire, flood, etc.), loss of employment or any other major reasons. The cost for the insurance is nonrefundable. It is the client’s responsibility to read and understand the conditions, policies, and exclusions of the aforementioned insurance. Claims You are required to inform, as soon as possible, the representative of Spiritours of any eventual claim. Abroad, you must immediately advise the guide or the Hotel Manager so that the appropriate steps are taken. Prices Unless otherwise specified, all prices are in Canadian dollars. Prices include GST / QST, airport taxes, fees and Compensation fund for customers of travel agents ($ 1.00 per $ 1,000). Costs are dependent on fuel price, rates of exchange, taxation and other factors. Spiritours can’t be held liable for any damage suffered by the traveler for illness, injury, loss, inconvenience or anxiety. Spiritours also disclaims any liability for any damage resulting from a governmental act, political unrest, strikes, incidental acts. Spiritours will not reimburse any amount to the participants due to a premature return or any unused services. Spiritours’ responsibility for a failure to provide a service or benefit described in this document is limited to the cost of such service or benefit. Compliance The client waives any claim against the Tour Operator for loss, damages or injury for any reason or by any result of the rendering of any of the services included. The client agrees to comply with any reasonable instructions issued by the Tour Operator or its representative relating to the tour. In the case a passenger has a detrimental behavior towards other passengers or the suppliers and who persists in his behavior despite a formal notice from the supplier or one of his representatives, the passenger will be expelled from the group and will have to assume all extra fees related to his behavior such as lodging, food and transportation. The traveler is responsible to get the information on entry requirements of the country he plans to visit, take the necessary steps to obtain the required documents and pay the corresponding fees. In the event that the passenger does not possess the documentation required, the authorities reserve the right to refuse passage.
