General remarks
This brochure contains only the most popular brands of BÖHLER WELDING CONSUMABLES.
For specific applications please contact your nearest BÖHLER Supplier. Details regarding the nature and
application purpose of our products are intended for the information of the user. The data concerning the
mechanical properties always refer to the all-weld-metal deposit in accordance with the applicable standards.
In the area of the weld joint, the weld metal properties are influenced by the base metal, the welding position
and the welding parameters. A guarantee of the suitability for a specific type of application requires in each
individual case an implicit agreement in writing. Information is subjected to change without notice.

Böhler EMK 6 is a copper-coated solid wire
suited for GMAW and TIG welding.
The MAG wire provides excellent welding,
wetting and feeding characteristics.
For robotic welding or the T.I.M.E.-process we
recommend BÖHLER EMK 6 TOP, a non copper
coated version of the solid wire BÖHLER EMK 6.
It is designed for extremely high wire feed rates
up to 30 m/minute.
Its bright and corrosion protected wire surface
ensures trouble-free wire feeding, lowest possible
cleaning and maintenance of the wire liner because
there are no copper residues and thus guarantees
the best possible efficiency and operating capacity
of robotic applications.

Basic coated electrode for vertical down
welding of filler and cover passes. The
weld deposit shows an ideal combination
of high strength and cryogenic toughness
down to -50 °C. Special design and
development work has enabled this
electrode to provide exceptional striking
characteristics and the avoidance of start
porosity on cover (cap) passes. Due to
this and the good welding characteristics
this special basic electrode offers easy
handling even under field conditions
(HD ≤ 5 ml/100 g).
The deposition rate is 80 - 100 %
higher than vertical up welding.

Basic and rutile-basic coated electrodes.
For CrNiMo steels with 4 - 5 %
molybdenum where very high resistance
against pitting and crevice corrosion is
required. The above averagemolybdenum content (6.2 %) is
characteristic to BÖHLER FOX
CN 20/25 M-A and FOX CN 20/25 M,
thus compensating for segregation in
high molybdenum alloyed weld
metals.
The pitting resistance equivalent
(PREN) is ≥ 44.
FOX CN 20/25 M-A should be
preferably used up to wall thicknesses
of 14 mm. It is designed for excellent
operating characteristics on DC/AC.

TIG welding rod and MIG wire for 3 - 4 % Mo
alloyed CrNi-steels. The weld metal shows a
stable austenitic micro structure with good
pitting resistance (PREN > 35) and crevice
corrosion resistance as well as excellent
CVN toughness behaviour. Both MIG and
TIG wires have an increased Mo content
(4.3 %) to compensate for segregation when
welding high molybdenum alloyed steels,
thus producing equivalent corrosion resistance to the relevant base metals
offering a 3 - 4 % Mo guarantee.
TIG welding rod and MIG wire for 4 - 5 % Mo
alloyed CrNi-steels. The weld metal shows a
stable austenitic micro structure with excellent
pitting resistance (PREN > 45) and crevice
corrosion resistance as well as resistance
to stress corrosion cracking.
Both TIG and MIG wires have an
increased Mo content (6.2 %) to
compensate for segregation when welding
high molybdenum alloyed steels, thus
producing equivalent corrosion resistance
to the relevant base metals offering a
4 - 5 % Mo guarantee.

Basic resp. rutile basic coated stainless
steel electrodes. Very popular for
numerous applications.
The weld deposit offers exceptionally high ductility and elongation
together with crack resistance.
There is no fear of embrittlement
when operating between -110 °C
and +850 °C and can be PWHT
without any problems. The deposit
will work harden and offers good
resistance against cavitation.
Ductility is good even after high
dilution when welding problem
steels or when subjected to
thermal shock or scaling. An
excellent alloy providing cost
effective performance.
BÖHLER FOX A7-A is suitable for both
AC and DC.
Rutile coated electrode of type
308 Mo (mod.). Designed for
dissimilar joints and weld cladding.
It offers a lower Cr and ferrite
content than a 309 Mo L weld
deposit with the result that carbon
diffusion and Cr-carbide formation
is reduced after PWHT and lower
ferrite contents can be achieved in
the second layer of 316 L weld
claddings.
Rutile coated stainless steel
electrodes of type 309 L, 309 Mo L.
An acknowledged world leader,
noted for its superior welding
characteristics and metallurgy.
Can be used on AC or DC. Other
advantages include high current
carrying capacity, minimum spatter formation, self releasing slag,
smooth and clean weld profile,
safety against formation of

● Analogous or similar filler metals.
● Dissimilar or higher alloyed filler metals (service conditions must be taken into consideration).
■
Preferable for corrosion resistant surfacing and cladding on un or low alloyed base metals.
▲ For dissimilar joint welds between un- and low alloyed steels with high alloyed CrNi/CrNiMo- or ferritic Cr-steels.
Approved up to service temperatures of +300 °C and 30 mm wall thickness in the as welded condition.
Otherwise we recommend FOX NIBAS 70/20, FOX NiCr 70 Nb or NIBAS 70/20-IG, NiCr 70 Nb-IG resp.
For cladding of un or low alloyed steels (service temperatures as before) as well as for buffer layers prior to hardfacing.
Also for repair and joint welding of difficult to weld steels with higher carbon contents or ferritic-martensitic Cr-steels.
▲ For joint welding of steels and cast steels with limited weldability and higher strength properties.
Also for buffer layers prior to hardfacing and wear resistant build up welding.
1
Tougher austenitic weld metal. Attack of S-containing media or requirement of matching colour of weld metal may call
for the use of filler metals of analogous composition for the final layer.
2
At service temperatures above +400 °C please contact us.
3
Also for dissimilar joint welds of austenitic manganese steels, higher carbon steels,
heat resisting Cr-steels or for buffer layers prior to hardfacing.
