the monthly UNITY SPECIAL POINTS OF INTEREST— Congregational Assembly Meeting—April 21 , 7pm @ Earhart A Life Saved! (see pg 56for details) Volume 8, Issue 4 April 2015 Auction Report Seeking to Serve Ade Zielke As I spend some time reflecting on the Christian ministry opportunities that have been part of St. Paul’s history, I know that I have been privileged to serve alongside you. We have joined helping hands in so many different Kingdom building experiences. VOLUNTEERS are the lifeblood of our St. Paul family. Those who are reading this know who you are and you know that to be the truth. If I was to try and list ALL the volunteers who have given time, talent, and loving care in making Christian ministries come alive in our family here, I would need pages and pages. The names would go on and on and on, I would hate to miss anyone and most importantly, we know volunteers are not about name recognition. Serving Jesus Christ as a volunteer is about doing what Jesus would do, giving sacrificially so that His Kingdom will grow. Volunteers in Christ’s Kingdom also know that giving of themselves while serving Jesus results in receiving as much or more in return. As we serve in our Kingdom walk, relationships grow. We share our life stories with God and with those around us. The Christian relationships and friendships that begin and that grow as we serve with one an- other are a foundation stone for enabling dynamic family bonding and a strong community of Christian believers. I speak from experience as I have witnessed the truths mentioned above. I have come to cherish all the St. Paul family members that I have been honored to serve and work with. My Christian Family is huge as a result of all that you have done in serving side by side with others and with me. Continue to get to know those around you, who are “like hearted.” Continue to join together in serving. We become so much more when we join together in sharing life stories, God’s Stories, and collecting life stories as we serve God and one another. We are changed as we serve the Lord and that is definitely a good thing. God has blessed me in so many ways here at St. Paul. Some of my fondest memories will be the friendships made as we shared in the Blessings of walking TOGETHER with GOD! Your friend in Jesus!!! Ade Zielke By St Paul School PTL Board The St. Paul PTL would like to thank you for supporting our 20th annual auction. It was a wonderful night of fellowship, fun, and good food. Thanks to your amazing support and participation, we raised over $25,000. The auction proceeds will be put towards technology upgrades and other school needs. Playground improvements and equipment additions are already scheduled to begin as soon as the ground thaws. Our auction chair, Donna Stempien, has worked extremely hard to coordinate the many helping hands, donors, and details involved to provide this wonderful event. We truly appreciate their time and effort. Please join us in thanking Donna and the dedicated volunteers who helped make the evening a success. We also appreciate the support from our sponsors - The Joe Shultz Insurance Agency and Michelle Shulman with Reinhart Realtors - and numerous monetary and item donors. Without their support, we would not be able to host our largest annual fundraiser. Please patronize these businesses (see back cover for list). Pastor Ekong in Africa received the 5 boxes of Bibles sent to him in January. He writes, “Thank you for the Bibles and catechisms, The contents were intact. I praise the Lord for all the good works you do for the sake of the kingdom’s expansion. Your brethren here have sent greetings. May the joy of your salvation be perfect.” Dear St Paul Family, We pray God will bless you all as much as you have blessed us with your prayers, cards, kindness and awesome food and meals. The Pastor Maglanque from the Philippines also writes, “Greetings to you all. May our heavenly Father continue to bless you. In addition to the Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible (large print) in KJV that I requested, could you also add a Wycliffe Bible Commentary, a Wycliffe Bible Dictionary, and the complete sermons of Martin Luther? Thanks in advance for these references. We include you always in our intercessory prayers. May our Father bless us all.” The Paper Peace Corps box is in Brauer Hall; we will continue to collect Bibles & catechisms. If anyone is interested in Pastor Maglanque’s request for books please contact Ruth Schmude: 737-483-7483. transportation help was so appreciated and the visits brought cheer to many dismal days. Special thanks to Pastor Neuendorf and Gretchen for communicating the need, and to Judy and Ron Wicinski for going above and beyond. Our hearts are overflowing with Love and Thanks for all that our St Paul Family contributed to help us through some rough times. To Our St Paul Family, Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers, cards, visits, food donations and memorials during Bill’s illness and in his passing. This year’s theme was SHARE— Serving, Helping, Assisting, Reaching Out and Equipping. Students in kindergarten through 8th grade and family volunteers spent the day doing service projects to help those in the Ann Arbor community and throughout southeast Michigan. They accomplished a great deal. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible! Pi Day On 3-14-15, St. Paul School and people all over the world celebrated Pi (Greek letter “π”), the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant - the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter - which is approximately 3.14159. St. Paul students and teachers ate pie in honor of the number. Thank you to our middle school math teacher, Ms. Twork, for organizing this event and to all the middle school parents who made and served the treats. Upcoming Events 8th Gr. Trip to Washington D.C. Our theme for the month of March has been “Amphibians and Reptiles.” For the first two weeks of the month, through books, art, movement and group time discussions, we have learned about the life cycle of frogs. We’ve enjoyed a visit from Laurel of Nature on the Go who talked about how God made various plant and animal life that live in ponds, how ponds change through the seasons, and she taught us a song about the water cycle. She even brought in live larvae and plant debris from the Huron River, as well as a live pair of toads and a land turtle! Be sure to visit our preschool hallway and view the lovely student-created pond! Happy Spring! St. Paul Members Report a “Save” from 40 Days for Life Pat and Gail McNally recently participated in the “40 Days for Life” prayer vigil held outside Planned Parenthood. Gail has some exciting news to share from their prayers with Sandie Weathers, the local coordinator, on Wednesday, March 11: “We had never attended a sidewalk prayer vigil before. Although we had had a chance to speak with someone about where to stand, where to place signs, where the referral information was kept, we were very happy to see Sandie still at Planned Parenthood when we arrived. It was a blessing for us to see her model an open, warm, and loving approach in offering information to the drivers that would pass our spot by the parking lot entrance. “One young woman walked over and accepted the Arbor Woman and FLS information cards that Sandie handed her. We were off to the side, quietly watching as she walked to the clinic. Over the next 30 minutes, other cars came past. Some stopped. Some did not. Then, the young woman was back, walking from the clinic right over to us. She said she needed an ultrasound and they were not doing them. ‘Did she need an appointment for the places listed on the cards?’ “Thank our Lord that Sandie was right there for her. Seeing which location might be more convenient for her. Offering to call the facilities on her cell phone for the young woman. Calling FLS about this urgent need as the young woman sat in her car. We prayed for her as she left the parking lot. That the ultrasound would be available for her and that God would show her the wonderful life present in her womb.” What joy to hear later that a life was saved! Praise and thanksgiving to our Lord. And also a prayer of thanks to all who show the face of Christ in love during these Days of Life! Men & Women! Are you struggling to cope after an abortion?
