Growing with Dramex is the right Dramex the competitive edge. way to head into the future! RA M a t e r i a l W s Dramex manufactures expanded products from a wide range of metals. These include the following: Carbon Steel Dramex is made from commercial (CS Type B) carbon steel sheets and coil, cold rolled, hot rolled pickled and oiled. Compared to other low carbon steels, CS Type B has the highest yield strength, which means it has good resistance to fatigue. Low carbon levels makes this a good welding candidate. Stainless Steel Grade 304 and grade 316 have excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of media. Easy to maintain stock of these types is L grade. Other alloys include type 309, 310, 317, 321, 330, 347 and 430. Made from sheets and coil. Mill test certificates are available on all Dramex products upon request. Aluminum Aluminum structures can weigh anywhere from 35% to as much as 80% less than steel. Manufactured from sheet and coil, Aluminum alloys are primarly 1100 H-14, 3003 H-14, 5005 H-32, 5052 H-32. Alloys Alloy properties include better corrosion resistance, toughness, and strength at high and low temperatures and have a wide range of special magnetic and electronic properties. Nickel Dramex expands a wide range of specialty nickel alloys. Most products containing nickel have long useful lives. Nickel can provide optimum solutions to practical challenges at a lower total cost and using less resources, including energy. Copper Copper has high electrical conductivity, high thermal conductivity, resistance to corrosion, and is easily worked and joined. Made from sheets and coil. Brass Brass has good mechanical strength and is easily worked and joined. Made from sheets and coil. Titanium Titanium has a high-strength-to-weight ratio and exceptional corrosion resistance. Titanium has very good electrical conductivity. Made from sheets and coil. Dramex expanded copper mat Plastics Plastic sheets can be expanded to your needs. D t RAMEX e r m i n o l o g y Expanded metal is our only business! Standard Expanded Metal Expanded metal as it comes off the machine. Standard expanded metal is abbreviated “XM”. Flattened Expanded Metal Expanded metal which has been passed through flattening rolls (cold rolled), turning the strands and bonds down to provide a flat surface. The flattening operation reduces the thickness (gauge) of the metal and stretches the pattern. Flattened expanded metal is abbreviated “FXM”. Dramex Long Diamond (LD) Styles manufactured LD from raw materials in sheet form (96” and 120” lengths) produce panels with the long axis of the diamond running along the length of the mesh sheet. Standard Dramex Flattened Dramex Dramex Reverse Diamond (RD) Styles produced RD normally from raw materials in coil form. These are available up to 48” LWD with some styles up to 60” LWD. Some small diamond designs are only manufactured as RD styles. Designating Style Expanded metal products are designated by a series of numbers which identify any given style. The first number designates nominal pitch short way of design. The second number is used in conjunction with the first number and may specify the gauge of metal, weight per 100 square feet, or may have some other significance. Therefore, the word “gauge” should never be added to the style designation. Style Dimension: Nominal dimension Short Way of Design (SWD) and Long Way of Design (LWD). Design Size: Actual dimension SWD and LWD. Measured from a point to a corresponding point on the following design. SWO: Short Way of Opening. LWO: Long Way of Opening. Strands: The sides of the expanded metal design. Strand Thickness: Gauge thickness of metal expanded. Strand Width: Amount of metal fed under dies to produce one strand. Dramex Standards Dramex product conforms to ASTM Standard F1267 and in the U.K., Dramex is certified ISO 9001: 2000 Quality Management System. A full reference listing of Standards for gratings and various alloys is available on our website at www.dramex.com. Standard Sheet Sizes Dramex standard sheet sizes are normally stocked items. Dramex also produces mesh styles not detailed on the specification pages. For items which do not meet your mesh requirements please contact the Dramex team for assistance in obtaining items suitable for your needs. Camber Measured by placing a straight edge along the concave S side of the sheet parallel to the LWD, touching both ends. The maximum distance from the edge of the expanded metal to the straight edge is the camber. SWD - 1/16” per foot of width. Shearing Tolerances Bond: Where two strands intersect. Eliminates jagged ends. Tolerance: Minus 0 plus 1/2 the design size, either SWD or LWD. Special bond tolerances on meshes of 1/4” and under. Random: This type of shearing leaves stag ends. Tolerance: ±1/16” on grating ±1/8”. LWD - Standard expanded metal 1/16” per foot of length. LWD - Flattened expanded metal 3/32” per foot of length. Flattening Flattening is limited to 72” maximum size one dimension. Flattened sheet thickness shall be plus or minus 10% of the published thickness. Please note the difference in appearance of the opening between the flattening of a longway sheet and the shortway sheet. Both openings were identical before flattening. The square appearance of the diamond in the flattened shortway sheet is produced by “cross flattening”. Flattened Longway Sheet 4’ swd x 8’ lwd Out Of Square Measured using a 90 degree angle. Flattened Shortway Sheet 8’ swd x 4’ lwd D f i RAMEX n i s h i n g Cleaning The most common cleaning method is an acid or solvent bath with a water rinse. For aluminum, use a non-etching chemical or detergent, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Anodizing A surface treatment for aluminum where an oxide coating is added electrochemically to the metal. For interior abrasion resistance a .0025” coating is necessary. Medium abrasion applications for interior or maintained exteriors need a .0004” coating. Use .0008” coating for exteriors. Porcelain Enamel Porcelain enamels can be readily applied to expanded metal. Forming, cutting, welding and drilling should be done before applying the finish.
