Dear Alumni and Friends,
The evolution of ancient volcanic activity beneath the sea, sculpted by waves and wind
over millennia, created the idyllic islands of Tahiti, Huahine, Fakarava, Rangiroa, Taha’a,
Bora Bora and Moorea. Experience this unspoiled earthly paradise—majestic volcanic
peaks rising up from emerald green jungles, chalk white atolls, pristine beaches and
turquoise lagoons—that has beckoned explorers, travellers, artists and writers for centuries
during this nine-night land and sea sojourn featuring the majestic Society Islands and
Tuamotu Archipelago. Enjoy two nights in colourful Papeete, Tahiti, and seven nights
aboard the Five-Star-Plus M.S. PAUL GAUGUIN, specifically designed to cruise the crystal-clear
aquamarine waters of the South Pacific, including the remote Tuamotu Archipelago,
known for its incredible marine life and tremendous snorkelling. We invite you to join
us for this splendid opportunity featuring round-trip air included from Los Angeles✤ and
Early Booking Savings through July 24, 2015!
Cruise aboard the intimate, Five-Star-Plus, 166-Stateroom M.S. PAUL GAUGUIN, which
provides an unmatched small ship experience featuring impeccable service amidst the
unparalleled beauty of the islands, atolls and motus of French Polynesia: Tahiti, the
Society Islands and the Tuamotus. And, a whole host of complimentary features aboard ship
are included: all onboard gratuities; complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages
served throughout the ship, including at every lunch and dinner, and replenished in your Suite
or Stateroom throughout the cruise; complimentary watersports; and even complimentary
personal butler service in Suite Category 1 and Stateroom Category 2.
Cultural enrichment abounds in the captivating natural environment of French Polynesia.
During your stay in Tahiti, explore the west coast of the island and learn more about the
history, environment and culture of Polynesia and admire the unique private collection in
the MUSEUM OF TAHITI AND HER ISLANDS. An onboard naturalist will provide a variety of talks
and demonstrations about the islands’ history and cultural heritage throughout the cruise.
You can observe—and even snorkel and swim with—extraordinary marine life and breathe in
the fresh fragrances of vanilla, gardenia and jasmine that delicately permeate the island air.
This is the perfect time of year to enjoy the Five-Star-Plus M.S. PAUL GAUGUIN cruising
in its “home ports” amidst the mysterious, far-off islands of the South Pacific. Featuring air

Taha’a (Motu Mahana)
Idyllically set across an azure lagoon to the
north of Huahine, Taha’a is dominated by
the profile of Mount Ohiri, named for Hiro,
the Polynesian god of sailors and thieves.
Today, two exotic enterprises provide the
islanders’ livelihoods—the production of the
world’s most flavourful vanilla beans and the
farming of lustrous black pearls. Spend the
day on the private South Pacific paradise
of Motu Mahana, where you can swim,
snorkel or kayak, and enjoy a traditional
Polynesian feast on the island complemented
by entertainment.
Bora Bora
Described as “the most beautiful island in
the world” by author James A. Michener,
Bora Bora is the proverbial vision of a
South Seas paradise. Its distinctive black
basalt peak is cloaked in a lush tropical
forest and silhouetted against turquoise
lagoon waters, where a coral reef and
an outlying fringe of motu teem with
multicoloured fish. Bora Bora was settled by
adventurous Polynesian mariners in the
10th century. The islanders have preserved
the ways of their forebears and still wear

11 Arrive in Canada
Widely known for its beauty, Bora Bora features tall peaks ideal for hiking and strikingly blue lagoons
well-suited for snorkelling.
Kayaking and paddle boarding are available from
M.S. PAUL GAUGUIN’S retractable watersports marina.
Fresh, vibrant flowers and fruit are an important
part of the French Polynesian culture.
Moorea
The motu village of Tetamanu, the former
capital of the Tuamotus, features a lovely
Catholic church built entirely of coral, the
first church constructed in the archipelago
by European missionaries (1874).
Near the village of Rotoava stands the
Topaka Lighthouse, a picturesque coral
stone turret nearly 14 metres tall.
Impressive temples evoke Moorea’s
Polynesian heritage while European
churches underscore its role as the centre
for 19th-century missionary activity in the
Society Islands. Contemporary islanders
continue the ways of their forefathers,
farming pineapples and papayas and
crafting fine works of art from seashells
and indigenous wood. In Moorea’s village
of Papetoai, a unique, octagonal-shaped
church is the oldest European structure in
the South Seas still in use.
TUAMOTU ARCHIPELAGO
Rangiroa
The Tuamotus, Tahiti’s “strand of pearls,”
and the largest chain of islands in the
world, are a remote, picture-perfect oasis
of the South Seas where dozens of pristine
coral atolls encircle stunning aqua lagoons.
With more than 160 kilometres of tiny
motus, each no more than one metre in
elevation, Rangiroa—“vast sky” in the local
language—offers immense, unobstructed
vistas in every direction. Its seemingly
endless, emerald green lagoon is the largest
in the Tuamotus and the second largest in
the world, a secluded natural aquarium that
is particularly attractive to divers. The atoll
also offers ideal snorkelling—observe the
manta ray, the green sea turtle and the rare,
endangered humphead wrasse—and an
unusual pink sand beach.
Fakarava
The second largest of the Tuamotu atolls,
Fakarava is designated a UNESCO
Biosphere Reserve for its lagoon’s rich
ecosystem of rare endemic birds, plants
and crustaceans. In Fakarava’s two
villages, the local pearl and coconut
farmers actively participate in conservation
efforts, as their livelihood depends
on sustaining these natural resources.

The
Lure
of
the
South Pacific
Exotic beauty,
beauty, turquoise waters, enchanting
culture and a mystique all its own, Tahiti,
“Queen of the Pacific,” and her sister islands—
Huahine, Taha’a, Bora Bora and Moorea—have
beckoned visitors since Captain James Cook
landed here in 1769. This tropical paradise has
captivated explorers and mariners, artists and
writers alike—Captain Cook returned twice
more, H.M.S. Bounty’s
Bounty’s Fletcher Christian chose
to remain for a time and Master
aster Impressionist
Paul Gauguin abandoned his family and
career in France to embrace the seductive
lifestyle of Polynesia. The neighbouring
Tuamotu Archipelago—which translates to
“Distant Islands”—was first spotted by famed
Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan during
his circumglobal voyage in 1521.
Contemporary Tahitian society was born
of a unique blend of peoples originating in
Southeast Asia. Among the finest sailors in the
world, they used the sun, stars, ocean tides and
currents and flight patterns of birds to make
their way across the sea around 2000 B.C.
From the Marquesas Islands, first settled by
mariners from Samoa, the Society Islands
became inhabited shortly thereafter and more
than 200 years after Magellan sailed past, in
1767, English navigator Captain Samuel Wallis
became the first European to set foot on the
island of Tahiti. In 1768, unaware that the
English had already been there, French explorer
Louis de Bougainville arrived on the island.
In addition to English, French and Polynesian
heritage, the Chinese also arrived in Tahiti during
thee late 19th century, furthering the diverse cultural
th
blend of the island’s inhabitants.
In keeping with the rich history of the
South Pacific, aquacultural and agricultural
preservation continue to encompass the everyday
life and cultural traditions of these remote,
unspoiled islands. Cultivation of Tahitian black
pearls and their shells, vanilla bean farms and
the coffee trade, copra (dried coconut) and
shellfish are central industries and of great
cultural importance here. To this day, these
beguiling islands are synonymous with the
world’s romantic vision of the South Seas, and
they await your discovery as you experience the
true essence of Tahiti, the Society Islands and the
Tuamotu Archipelago for yourself.

events, special programs and guest lecture series (if applicable), are
subject to change or cancellation without prior notice. Gohagan is not
responsible therefor and is not required to compensate passengers under

reason whatsoever; if so, its sole responsibility is to refund monies paid
by the participant to it. Gohagan is not required to cancel any trip for any
reason including without limitation, United States Department of State,
World Health Organization or other Warnings or Advisories of any kind.
Gohagan is not responsible for penalties assessed by air carriers resulting
from operational and/or itinerary changes, even if Gohagan makes the

substitute vessels, hotels or attractions of a similar category for those listed
in this brochure.

are based on economy-class travel, carriers and routings of PGC’s choice and
contractual agreements between PGC and respective airlines. PGC reserves the
right to use charter air service where applicable. As the airfares negotiated
by PGC are very restricted, all tickets issued are non-endorsable and cannot
be exchanged for another carrier or alternative routing. Gohagan and
the sponsoring association/organization have no control over availability.
Once submitted, flight itineraries and/or travel dates on all deposited bookings
can be changed for a $100 USD-per-person fee per call, plus any applicable
service charges and/or supplier fees. Included air, however, is not guaranteed
on any such changes. First-class and business-class may be available for the
transpacific portion of your flights at additional cost. Full terms and conditions
apply as set forth by PGC’s standard Air/Sea Program.
LUGGAGE: Luggage allowance policies are set by the airlines and may
change without prior notice. Please contact your airline(s) for the most
current luggage allowance policy.
PHYSICAL ACCESSIBILITY: All programs require physical independence
and mobility. Any physical or mental condition that may require special
medical attention or physical assistance (for example, the need for a
wheelchair) must be reported in writing when you make your reservation.
Travellers must be able to embark or disembark motorcoaches alone or with
minimal assistance from your travelling companion and climb stairs and step
over raised thresholds without assistance. Travellers requiring assistance must
travel with a companion who will be responsible for handling equipment.
DISCOUNTED RESERVATIONS: Discounts apply only to those
reservations received in the offices of Gohagan in writing, accompanied by
the required deposit, by July 24, 2015. In the event a “discounted” reservation
must be cancelled, no “replacement” reservation can be substituted at the
discounted rate. A “replacement” reservation is a new reservation and can
be substituted only at the full-fare tariff. Cancellation penalties may apply.
CANCELLATIONS: Cancellations for all or any part of the trip including
Post Program reservation(s) will not be effective until received in writing in the
offices of Gohagan. Should you have to cancel, the following terms will apply:
reservation cancellation(s) are subject to a $200 USD ($50 USD Post Program) per
person administrative fee from the time of booking through 180 days prior to
departure; from 120 through 179 days prior to departure, $800 USD ($200 USD Post
Program) per person; from 95 through 119 days prior to departure, 40% of the
published full regular tariffs; from 61 through 94 days prior to departure, 60% of
the published full regular tariffs; cancellations 60 days or less prior to departure,
a no-show, or early return from the trip will result in forfeiture of 100% of the
published full regular tariffs. In addition, any applicable airline cancellation fees,
optional excursion cancellation fees and administrative fees may apply.
TRIP INSURANCE: Because our cancellation policies are strictly enforced, we
strongly recommend that you purchase trip cancellation insurance. In the event
that you must cancel your participation in a travel program, trip cancellation
insurance may be the only source of reimbursement. Trip cancellation insurance
is available for comprehensive coverage of such expenses in conjunction with
cancellation due to illness or accident, and damaged or lost luggage. We will
send you an application upon receipt of your reservation.
RATES: Prices quoted are based on fares in effect at the time of printing and
are subject to change at any time. On land and/or cruise programs, even after
full payment, Gohagan reserves the right to increase the tour price in the event
of cost increases due to changes in supplier costs, currency fluctuations or fuel
or energy surcharges and all such increases are to be paid to Gohagan upon
notice to the tour participant of such increases. On programs which include
Gohagan purchased interstate or international air (which originates or returns
to the United States), no increased costs will be passed on after final payment
except for subsequently imposed governmental tax increases.

Arbitration Agreement, the brochure, or any other information relating in any
way to the trip, or to the trip itself, shall be settled solely and exclusively by

and accepts the terms contained in this Release of Liability, Assumption of

otherwise of travel services arranged through Gohagan & Company.
